I have been dealing with a Kidney Stone for the past month :scared1: I haven't actually had any pain from it since 4/26 though, both my regular Doc and I thought it was gone, but after a CT scan found out I still have it. Anyway went and saw Urologist yesterday, had an x-ray and ultrasound done and now he tells me they have to "pluck it out" , it's too small for them to break apart non surgically. So now I am freaking out a little, just need a little reassurance.

You will come through it just fine, P4E. Routine for them, not routine for us, but over in a short time and you are all better.

Consider yourself hugged..

 Did he say they would use a basket to catch it in? If so it is pretty simple and other than a little discomfort when you pee the first couple times it shouldn't be painful.

Hugs and alot of sympathy! I just went through this last month. Surgery was a piece of cake, honestly. As others said, peeing the first couple times hurt, but nothing bad. (Think UTI pain).

I will add though, if you need a stent following surgery, and it bothers you (apparently happens "sometimes")- ibuprofen works MUCH better than vicoden for it. I kept telling them I was having pain, oh take more vicoden. Finally 3rd time I called, they said vicoden doesn't work for that, you need ibuprofen. Geesh louise, could the first person not told me that? :confused3

And, again, should you need a stent, getting it out truly is a piece of cake. I got myself into quite a frenzy worrying about that. Wasted energy, it was nothing.

Hope you are better soon!!

Hey all, thanks for the hugs and advice, I really appreciate it. I just tend to freak out a little (ok alot :lmao:)when it comes to medical things. My DH is a real saint for putting up with me all these yrs :rolleyes1.

 I know exactly how you feel girl. Sorry to hear that you have had to deal with this, I had to get emergency surgery due to a kidney stone 6 months back.

I offer up a hug and a stiff drink!!! You will be in my thoughts.

I've dealt with kidney stones half my life. I've had many different procedures done. I think I know what you mean by getting one plucked. I had to have that done when I was 9 mos. pregnant :scared1: Anyway, it was heaven once it was out :thumbsup2 Ask away if you have any ques. Right now I have one stubborn one that refused to break up thru two "blasts". Luckily it doesn't hurt so we are just monitoring it.

ps - I always request "no stent" - I find it too uncomfortable.

Good luck to you !!! From someone who feels your pain, I totally understand what you are going through. I've had more stones then I can count. A good 25 or so. Started when I was 18, I'm 40 now. "I'm a stone producer" is what the doctors tell me. Lucky me !

Done the blasting, have had them plucked, and they have fallen out on their own. I too would suggest skipping the stent. I had one for almost 12 weeks. It was very uncomfortable. Can't say painful, just lots of pressure and you knew something was in there that shouldn't be. Wish someone would have told me about the ibuphrophen...vicodine did nothing.

You'll come through this just fine and will feel so much better once its out ! Lisa

My dd(26) had that done a little over a year ago. Her's was stuck in the ureter (sp??). She was given general anesthesia and they went up in there and removed the stone. After they removed the stone, then they put a stint up in there, because that area was inflamed and irritated from the stone being there, and they wanted to keep things opened up so that things could flow the way they are supposed to, and then a week later they removed the stint.

This was all done after several days of her going through intense pain from the stone, and they determined that it was stuck, and was not going to move, so that's why they removed it. She got along well with the whole procedure....but she could feel that stint in there, until they went back in and removed it a week later. I don't think having the stint there was painful, but just that she could feel it and it was uncomfortable.

I think you will get along just fine.

I think I jinxed myself by responding on this thread. Got a call from my Urologist this morning that I have a blockage in my kidney :scared1: I go for x-rays next week before my dr. visit.

Sorry about that Mamamary!! I will send some good wishes your way too. :flower3: I'll have to ask about that stent, haven't actually talked about the procedure with with the doc and what is all involved. I was hoping I could have had it blasted but apparently my stone is too small for that :sad2: but too stubborn to get out on it's own darn it.
