I want to get a Disney guide book.

One to help me pick out and plan our trip. A book will help get my DH involved in the trip planning process too. He's not one to get online.

One that has info about how long it takes to get from park to each hotel.
Line wait times
Best places for toddlers. (our kids are going to be almost 5 and just over 2 when we go).

HELP ME!

Which one? There a couple out there. I'm starting to get so confused about this trip.

Unofficial Guide 2008

it won't let me link you to the site. If you do a google search for unofficial guide to WDW you'll find it - it has "touring plans" in the name of the site.

Thanks for the link...I can't seem to get it open. Can you post it again please?

Twinkler...don't get confused. Ask questions here...the experts are here :)

Hotel-Park drives depend on where you are staying. It takes about 20-25 minutes (in my experience to get from say POP to MK- which is basically one end of the WDW property to the other) Your hotel may also share buses which obviously slows down the driving time.

Line waits depend on the time of year you are going. In September...we basically walk onto everything or wait 10 minutes at most. Some rides (Kali River Rapids comes to mind) they let you ride over and over again because there is no line. But I have family who went last April (school vacation) and they waited about 25-30 minutes per ride...which is why I go in Sept!

Must dos with your kids... my best advice is to go for as long as you can because you want to take your time. They will need to nap at that age. Bring strollers. It's a LOT of walking. Plan on spending most of your time at MK. They will want to ride Buzz Lightyear 50 times!!!! :rotfl:

I also like the Unofficial guide, but I also highly recommend the Passporter as well. My dh find the Unofficial guide really wordy, but enjoy looking through the passporter.

It depends on what you are looking for. . .

My first trip I used Birnbaums guide which is pretty basic and disney sanctioned but it was nice and general and gave good basic advice.

I bought the Unofficial Guide for our 2nd trip and like it but it is extremely detailed and a lot of reading.

I also bought the Passporter for our 2nd trip which was nice for planning and carrying to the parks. More detailed than Birnbaums but less than Unofficial guide.

If you are an "organizer", you will enjoy using the Passporter. I found it extremely useful!

I have the passporter and love it so far. I also purchased the unofficial Guide to WDW w/ Kids. Don't like that one at all. Seems like quite a bit of info is outdated. I understand things change, but this is REALLY outdated.

I heard the actual Unofficial guide is much better.

I like the Passporter. The info is up-to-date, plus there are pages to write down trip info and pockets for receipts and stuff. Excellent maps, too. I ordered mine directly from their website. When I registered, I got a coupon code, so it was cheaper than buying from a bookstore or Amazon.

I do NOT advise getting "The unofficial guide". I ordered it online and returned it to the local Barnes & Noble. Why?

Cause it was HUGE, and ugly, and WAY too granular. It also had way more stuff than I really needed. It's about as easy to read as the Bible.

instead, I signed up on TourGuideMike.com for about the same price. (which isnt ideal either, but it's better than that book!)

Huge Unofficial Guide fan here! Love it and I read it from cover to cover. It has a chart with every disney hotel and the travel times to each park using either your car or the disney bus. I got the passporter this year and have barely looked at it.

Passporter
They have a regular and deluxe versions. I would go to the store and see which one is more 'you'.

I love, love, love the Unofficial Guide. If you do not want a lot of pretty pictures (there are none!), it's the best out there with touring plans that really do work. I've used the UG on 4 trips, and we never wait in lines because I follow those plans. I also bought the Complete Guide to Walt Disney World 2008 (on Amazon). It's got some nice photos and good overall information about WDW in general.

Another vote for passporter here :thumbsup2

very easy to read and find info, helps you organize your trip and can be a keepsake journal after the trip (bring it with you on the trip).

Don't forget to order the planning DVD...pop it in and watch w/dh to pinpoint which areas of planning interest him...then you can look up specifics in your guidebook. Big Unofficial Guide fan here.
