As the title says, I made some whoopie pies but I don't use much filling in them - but I doubled the recipe. Sooo...I have enough filling for nearly another whole batch.

Can this be frozen? For how long? And what is the best way to freeze it?

I know I saw a thread discussing this in the past week or so, but I couldn't remember if it was on the community board or the budget board, didn't see it there and did a search, couldn't come up with it. :confused3

Any advice?? Thanks! :flower3:

There are several recipes for the filling....which one did you use?

I did the same thing! Made extra filling ended up tossing it. When will you be making WP again? BTW I just became aware that wp were a New England thing. To think some people have never had one!!! That is just sad!

Okay I give, what is it?

A whoopie pie is just the most delectable treat!!

Traditionally, two layers of chocolate cake about 4" wide (round) with creamy white fluffy frosting inside. Have you heard of oreo cakesters? Very similar to those, but larger.

OP, I wish I could help, but my mom is the famous whoopie pie maker in the family, and she is asleep. I think that you would be fine freezing it.

I freeze entire whoopie pies, so I think you could freeze the extra filling in Rubbermaid or even in ziploc freezer bags (if it is soft enough to be piped out of the bag and onto the whoopie pie).

I don't see leftover whoopie pie filling as a PROBLEM....you just need to lick the bowl, lick the spatula, stick your finger in it and lick the filling off...repeat as necessary until there is no extra leftover.:rotfl:

And for those of you poor deprived souls who don't know what a whoopie pie is, take a look http://whoopiepiefestival.com/ . Traditionally they are made with a soft cake like chocolate cookie, but I've also seen them in pumpkin, oatmeal raisin, red velvet and a few other flavors. The Amish bake stand at our farmer's market carries them every week (which is both good and bad :rotfl:).
