"I"m Only Going Because My Teacher Told Me To" Nov. 2016 PTR * update 12/2 TRIP REPORT STARTED! *

Great plans and even backup plans...and I can't imagine having to think all of that out. I've just got ONE day to sorta-kinda replan and that's enough for me!

Steve and I have been twice this year but the boys haven't been since last Nov.,

That's awesome! Did the boys give you any grief about going without them? I felt a little guilty on our last trip not taking at least our youngest who is 8. But sometimes you just need a grown ups only trip!

Thanksgiving trip last year including the stomach bug and......some sewage backup in our resort room

Oh no! I'm all about the "do over" trip! Hopefully this year everything will be A-ok. I love your plans so far. I'm also a big fan of renting points, even though this last trip was our first time doing it, everything was fantastic and I have 2 more trips planned renting points. I'm afraid we are deluxe spoiled now. :sad2:

That is just brilliant...I always wish there was more icing...but never even thought about asking for more lol
I would never have thought of asking or more icing until I read about doing so here on the Dis! And then I recently saw a picture in a dining report of someone who had asked for more icing - :cloud9: It looked like they asked for a little bit of cinnamon roll with their icing lol!

Don't I wish!!!! Pretty sure I'm drawing the I have to work the day after thanksgiving short straw this year. We're going to Key West in early January and then of course Disney in Feb, so that means holiday work for me.
I figured it was a longshot :( I know we won't be going in Feb. but whenever we decide when our next trip is - maybe I'll just go ahead and book you guys a trip, too :rotfl2:

This sounds (and looks awesome). Were there drinks?????:drinking1 Yes I have a one track mind!
They did have a local pumpkin ale! I'm not big on pumpkin flavored things but Steve and I tried it. He liked it, me not so much. Would have been really fun to down a bottle of wine beforehand and walk through with some good friends..........

What's the latest on ROL? I haven't been able to keep up with anything lately.
Well, apparently the latest rumor is a possible 11/18 opening for the D23 guests? And then they'll open after that? And we arrive the 19th so :confused3 So we'd maybe be able to see it and I guess if they make FP available I'd try to get one, but I can't be worrying myself and going nuts sitting and watching for those to become available  I'll hate not to see something so new and so anticipated but hey, something else to list as a reason for a trip in the not so distant future!

Seriously????? I love winter and snow too, but October is just sacrilege
LOL I do agree! Five years ago we had a major storm on 10/29 and tons of people in the area lost power for DAYS. We lost it from the 29th until 11/2. Schools were closed the 31st and 1st, we were in a hotel for like 3 days and people were driving like 30 minutes away to find available hotel rooms. Otherwise we don't usually get snow until Dec. But then 2 years ago my friend was flying to WDW the Tues. before Thanksgiving and they were predicting a huge storm late that night, so they moved her flight up by 5 hours and sure enough we got about 7 inches that night!

Bahahaha! I'm pretty sure the last time I rode it I was buried in my uncles arms. I think the anticipation scares me the most. You know the whole going through the twilight zone is totally Unnecessary for my nerves haha. I'm pretty sure Miranda is up for it! She loves rides and I've been showing her some YouTube videos to let her get a feel of some of them
Good! I hope she rides with you. Otherwise tell her she's not a good friend and you'll never do anything for her ever again :rotfl: And FYI, the whole library "show" is almost the best part!

I hope to get to update my PTR tomorrow if it is slow at work. The no wifi at home thing is killing me. :sad:Near impossible to do on my phone.
Ugh, I forgot you don't have wifi at your house now :headache: I may have asked you this on your PTR but, can you get it? Will they be offering it in your area soon? Or are you out of luck??

Is this in AK? I am trying to research stuff like this so we can try to hit up stuff we normally would get to see/do any other time of the year.
Yes! The main characters, or at least Mickey and Minnie, should be in holiday outfits by the time we're there (you too). Not sure if Goofy still dresses as Santa there since he'll be doing it at HS now but they all did it years ago when I had the boys' picture taken with them all and people confirmed for me a week or so ago on the TPAS board that they did it last year, too :) I specifically got the FP for character outpost for this!

This is driving me INSANE! Plus I read a possibly start date of ROL of 11/18. I take it with a grain of salt but... if that happens I will have to rearrange even more since I had us at AK on 11/17 at night:headache: But whatever it takes and I tell myself if I don't get to see it this trip there is always Jan!
And then today they come out with the holiday food booths going up at Epcot beginning the 25th and the 15 themed trees in DS which sound awesome, not to mention PizzeRizzo opening the 18th and Once Upon a Time replacing CtM! Add in a few other things we haven't seen yet like the new Muppets in Liberty Square and the new castle stage show plus new Soarin' and we have a nice amount of "new" stuff to do, as do you!!! I'm getting a little  though.........and it's seriously looking like ROL will happen. AND, I'm thinking they won't offer dining packages right away (which I wouldn't do anyway at this point) or even FP's right away which means waiting on long SB lines which means aggravation! I'm getting aggravated now so I'm going to just go drink wine and stop thinking about it!

Sounds like you have it all under control, though I don't know how! I do believe that somehow it will all work out and you will all have a great time, no matter if you use Plan A or Plan B, so no worries! Remind me again…when, exactly, will you KNOW which plan you're using??
Thanks! Ugh, we won't know which plan we're using until sometime between 11/15 and 11/17 :sad2: Tryouts begin the 14th so, depending on if/when Ricky gets cut or IF he makes it, it could be any of those days. And we leave the 19th. So.....yeah, last minute on top of making 2 different plans! Packing will be fun!

My DS LOVES the Frontierland Shootin' Gallery, as well! We made the mistake of buying him one of those big wooden rifles one year and it was a nightmare getting it home on the plane...duh! But we definitely stop there a few times on each trip
LOL! One year Chris wanted this absolutely huge Stitch. We always fly and he was so big, as in he'd fit perfectly in a seat, so we told Chris he'd have to hold Stitch on his lap the entire flight if we bought him and we didn't even know if they'd allow that! He was even bigger than our carryon bags so we nixed that idea :P

Sounds like you have the plans down...just waiting to see what plan to put into place. I forgot when you said you would find out? And yes, my goodness, Disney is just horrible at planning stuff (or maybe just announcing stuff) these days. It is nice that they are adding all the holiday stuff, makes me want to plan a holiday trip again, but geez, give a little notice.

I only saw CtM twice but absolutely LOVED it, so I'm a little disappointed that I won't get to see it anymore except on YouTube. Even if the new show is great (I watched the Toyko version and it seemed good), it doesn't mean I won't miss CtM.

Did you see the rumor about Nick and Judy meeting during the Christmas party? But I don't think I recall whether or not you guys were going to one?

Oh and did you see the ToT rumors? Ugh, so disappointing.
We won't find out until a few days before we leave unfortunately :( Tryouts begin the 14th so depending on how he does, we'll know the outcome anywhere from the 15th to the 17th and we leave the 19th. So I'm going to have to pack for Chris and I, pack at least 4 days worth of stuff for Ricky and Steve, and have another 3 days worth ready to pack if they're coming right away! I don't even want to think about that now or I'll get a :headache:

Seems like this week Disney did lots of announcing! All of it good but it's kind of negated since the stupid, stupid TOT rumor also came out. That ruins everything, seriously! I don't get all up in arms about changes, even them taking MSEP didn't make me post nasty stuff, but c'mon, TOT?? I'm surprised they actually did it in DL and I really never thought they'd do it here. There are alot of attractions you can come up with at least one complaint/negative about, and many attractions you can come up with multiple comlaints/negatives about, even ones you like. But I can't think of ONE for TOT. Makes no sense whatsoever to change it unless they're going to take out every single current thing there and get rid of every remnant of any "old Hollywood" attraction. If that's the case they'll have to come up with more than SW and TS lands to get me to keep going to all 4 parks when I visit, and that's pretty heavy stuff coming from me!

Great plans and even backup plans...and I can't imagine having to think all of that out. I've just got ONE day to sorta-kinda replan and that's enough for me!
You're doing very good yourself at juggling more than one plan for your "questionable" day!

That's awesome! Did the boys give you any grief about going without them? I felt a little guilty on our last trip not taking at least our youngest who is 8. But sometimes you just need a grown ups only trip!

Sorry I'm not quoting your comments separately, my computer sucks and the quote function hasn't worked for awhile so I can only do that from Steve's . We've done 3 adults only trips so far and Ricky was only a little upset the first time; I think he's at the age now where he feels it's cool not going away with your parents lol, and his social life is such that he has enough to keep him busy while we're gone! Chris on the other hand was a wreck the first time we went alone - he was 9 - and still gets upset. Moreso because he misses me than because we're going to Disney. I think it does help that whenever we've gone alone we've always had a family trip planned, so they know when they're going again :)

As for my plans, thanks! Disney just keeps throwing new stuff out there for our week, which is both cool and annoying. Renting points is awesome! We've rented through Davids and also through a few different owners, one we've rented through 3x and he's very flexible. We find the owners generally are a bit cheaper than David's but the price through him is still so much better than through Disney! Definitely spoils you deluxe-wise though :-)

What?? Wait! What did I miss? They are turning OUR TOT into GOTG?? Like you, I never thought they would do that to this one since this ride is so PERFECTLY themed. Ugh. I absolutely HATE drop rides and I go on this because I love the story and it's done so well. Sad, sad day :sad1:

Currently it is just a rumor but there are multiple, valid sources. The timeline is after Toy Story Land opens in 2018. So there's still time for the idea to be scrapped! :)

gh, I forgot you don't have wifi at your house now :headache: I may have asked you this on your PTR but, can you get it? Will they be offering it in your area soon? Or are you out of luck

Nope nothing available. At&t dsl (not even uverse) is the only thing that is in the area and it's maxed out. I know I've lived without it for years but when you have grown accustomed to getting on the computer, streaming Netflix or even just pandora without thinking twice it's an adjustment. :headache: Oh well. I'll get used to it eventually or who knows my neighborhood might even upgrade to 2010 lol.

Yes! The main characters, or at least Mickey and Minnie, should be in holiday outfits by the time we're there (you too). Ahh this makes me happy! After last year when we figured out meeting the characters at our age was not awkward at all and they were actually pretty fun we tried to meet as many as we could. I have been researching some to at least meet in their different costumes.

And then today they come out with the holiday food booths going up at Epcot beginning the 25th and the 15 themed trees in DS which sound awesome, not to mention PizzeRizzo opening the 18th and Once Upon a Time replacing CtM! I didn't even bother with the Epcot booths since we won't be there then. But the PizzeRizzo I'm pretty excited about. The 18th is our full day at DHS and the one thing I was looking forward to for QS there was removed form the menu. :confused3So this was news to my ears! :dumbo: I'm going to have to check out the muppets in Liberty Square too! I was a little obsessed with the growing up! Plus new Soarin'! Did you read about the Once Upon a time show is not going to be right before Wishes? I hope this isn't true and I misread that info. I may be in the minority but I never really just had to see the castle stage show. I think in 2011 while there for 9 days (majority MK time) we caught the show multiple times. Maybe it was just overexposure lol. I keep telling myself not to cram so much in because January is right around the corner too!

I know @ArielSRL answered already but, yeah  Of all the rumors and changes that have come and gone this is the worst for me! I'm still hoping as she said in her post that they scrap this one, or we'll all have to make many, many trips out there next year just to ride TOT. Which isn't a bad idea lol, but I would want those trips to be for GOOD reasons!

Nope nothing available. At&t dsl (not even uverse) is the only thing that is in the area and it's maxed out. Well I do hope your neighborhood brings you up to date, at least into the last 5 years or so! And I hear you on feeling that meeting characters as adults might be awkward. The first adults only trip Steve and I took I wanted to meet characters but felt weird so I only met Rapunzel and I was the awkward one! I've since gotten more comfortable and it can be really fun meeting them without my boys :)

I did hear about the OUAT show being after Wishes which kind of blows, because I figured Chris and I could watch it and then book over to the carousel to watch Wishes since we like it there. But I don't see how, if we watch Wishes from back there, we'd be able to fight the crowd and find a decent spot to see the projection show. So now if I want to see it I have MORE rearranging to do.........and like you I've had no desire to see the castle stage show in recent years because I'd seen it countless times, but did you know it's new? Mickey's Royal Friendship Fare started in June! That's why I want to see it; it has Tiana, Naveen & Louis from their movie plus Rapunzel and is quite different from the previous show!

Ariane, you are soooooo organized!!!! It's hard for me to make one plan, two would drive me insane! You go girl!
Ha ha thanks! It's getting a little nerve wracking now with all the cool stuff being added, but I'm determined to get it all in! Or at least get it all on my index cards....... :scared:

Happy Halloween- We're In The Teens!
Yup, 19 days today! And I still have stuff to buy and I haven't begun to think about packing. This weekend we had Chris's family birthday party since mom was away last weekend. It was a little tough for Chris since my baby got braces Friday and he's still in quite a bit of pain :( He did manage to smile once for me!

Still hate selfies. Don't think I'll ever figure out where I'm supposed to look!

I'm up to day 6 of our plans which brings us to Thanksgiving!!! My holiday do-over in Disney. For those of you who didn't read my TR from last Nov., I unfortunately was stuck in bed in our room at the BW with a nasty stomach bug on Thanksgiving day. I had awesome big plans for the day which we had to squash and it broke my heart. So this year all illness better stay away, because I have even bigger, more awesome plans for Thanksgiving 2016!

Day 6, 11/24
DS / HS

Luckily this day hasn't really changed much from my original plans, just a little. WAY, way back near the beginning of this PTR I mentioned the boys chose bowling at Splitsville for their "new" thing from the choices I gave them - which didn't include bowling lol. I decided since the parks can be busy on the holiday we'd try bowling in the morning. Splitsville opens 10:30 and we'll want to be there before then to ensure getting a lane as I have no idea how crowded it gets there on Thanksgiving. I know I can reserve a lane ahead of time for an additional fee, but the $60 it's going to cost for an hour and 15 minutes is enough :sad2:
There are some other things we want to do in DS since it's been awhile since our last visit, so our time there will look like this:
-
Splitvile, hopefully in at opening and done by noon
-show Ricky and Steve the new "Festival of Trees" if they came down late. *I've decided if Chris and I are alone for the beginning of the trip, we'll come over on 11/21 to see this at night and watch the tree lighting*
-visit Michael Jordan's new memorabilia museum/shop his son opened
-visit Uniqlo if I didn't do that on the 21st with Chris
-go here and pick out our ornaments like we do every year!

Nowadays the boys just pick their ornament and we have the year inscribed on it. Steve and I always pick one of
the bigger ones and have it personalized with both our names and the year :goodvibes Tradition!

We have dinner at Trail's End at 4:45, so with the above plans the day should be fun and relaxing. Originally I was going to see what we felt like doing after dinner - pool, boardwalk, a park, nothing. But then a coupe weeks ago the Jingle Bell Jingle BAM show was announced for HS and I decided we need to not only see it, but do the dessert party on Thanksgiving! We haven't done a dessert party since 2012 when we tried the Wishes one at MK and we weren't impressed. However the SW dessert party desserts and drinks sound so good, I figure these might be similar, plus our week will be crowded and I think other than staking out a spot 90 minutes early the only way we'll have a good view is by doing the party. So! From DS we'll go to
-Fort Wilderness for TE dinner
-HS for Jingle Bell Jingle BAM dessert party :santa:

The good thing is, the dessert party doesn't start until 8pm so as long as we don't overindulge in TE desserts (which doesn't mean we can't have any) we should be good to go again for sweets and alcohol after 4:45 dinner. I figured I'd make a FP or 2 for HS since we'll hopefully make it over there by 7 and I may make one for 6-7 also, in case dinner happens to be real quick. Problem is Steve's starting to get mopey about his very possible lack of park days and wanted to skip bowling, but last night the boys said nope, we're bowling. So now I feel like we should try rushing through DS and get to HS for at least 1 or 2 attractions before dinner, bus to FW, eat, bus back to HS. It won't be as relaxing as only hitting HS after dinner, but we've done it enough that I know we can handle it and even to get one ride on RnRC or TOT before dinner would be worth it to him and Ricky :scratchin The park closes at 9 as soon as JBJB is over so there won't be any chance to ride anything after the show unless hours are extended. Something else for me to think about, do I make one FP for say, 4-5?

That's all for now! Until next time, hope you all have a

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
:hmghost::maleficen:sulley:

Sounds like very nice TDay plans. I'm assuming if all the boys make the whole trip, you'll skip the before dinner DHS? Do the boys have enough tix for you to make FPs for that day? If so, I'd say go for it.

So sorry to Chris on the braces. I was lucky enough to never need them. It will be nice if one or both my boys could skip those!

Looking forward to more...

Aw…Chris looks just as handsome with the braces! My DS is just getting ready to get them off and DD is getting them on next month…so much for having a break from the monthly orthodontist payments! It'll all be worth it in the end when they have those million dollar smiles (literally!) :D

That bowling sounds, errrr…interesting…and JUST like something my family would make me do in Disney :crazy2: I have absolutely zero interest in that or mini golf, and I swear if they ever caught wind that there was an actual bowling alley there it'd be all over for me :P Luckily, I do all the planning and they just go along with it so I'm safe for now :rotfl:

I have been purposely avoiding anything associated with that Jingle Bell Jingle Jam because it REALLY makes me want to go and sad that I can't. But I love the Star Wars dessert party and that one sound even better so I'm sure it will be awesome!

AHHH...I can't believe we have less than 20 days now! Makes me a bit sad because it will go so fast and I don't have another trip planned to look forward to after this one..yet! ;)

I love your latest plans. Splittsville sounds fun and a great 'something new' thing. I think my something new is hopefully going to be finally eating at Tusker House after reserving it many times in the past and cancelling it. It will all be NEW stuff to the little boys. I wish we could have planned the dessert party also or something else fun but it's just too late now. I'm still debating doing some kind of celebration for my mom for her birthday, which is actually the 28th but we won't see her then so celebrating early would be good.

With any luck, since our passes will be 13 months, we can make a return trip for Thanksgiving next year and maybe for THAT trip I'll book a dessert party.

visit Uniqlo if I didn't do that on the 21st with Chris

We just got one of these in Toronto and it is SO awesome! Makes me want to buy everything.

Your DS day sounds great...I know how tempting it is to try to pack in as much park time as possible...but I like the idea of this almost whole day off plus the dessert party...I know you may miss some park time, but personally I think you'll be happier for it and not as wiped out....but may be hard to convince everyone lol

Yes we definitely won't go to HS before dinner if we all go down on the 19th, because then we'll be able to all go to HS on the 20th like my original plan calls for! So much up in the air........it's why I'm staying so confused
Funny you mention enough days on the kids' tickets because I meant to write in my post that we'll have to add a day for Chris and maybe Ricky now that we're planning on definitely hitting a park on Thanksgiving. When I got their tix from Parksavers I got the 7 day PH, and going on Thanksgiving will be 8 park days. I looked at getting the 8 day but it would be cheaper to just add the day once we're down there, and since I didn't know if we'd use it that's the way I went. Only negative is I can't make FP's for that day until we get there an add the day. Or I can cancel our FP's for our last day and add those when we get down there.........I haven't thought that far yet. I think I'm purposely avoiding that lol!

I hope your daughter adjusts easily and quickly to her braces! Ricky only has his bottom ones on now and is getting them off Jan. 3rd. We finished his payment last year so we had a little break  I had braces and let me tell you, the way they do the whole thing now is WAY easier than 30-something years ago!

I was stubbornly refusing to do mini-golf or any non-park activity for the longest time until we actually did it in 2012. It made the boys so happy and gave them a break from the parks, so they were happier to go back to the parks :thumbsup2 That's why I offered something this year; we also did Fantasia Gardens mini-golf last Nov. I'm just antsy when we do these things!

AHHH...I can't believe we have less than 20 days now! Makes me a bit sad because it will go so fast and I don't have another trip planned to look forward to after this one..yet! ;)

Ha, that's me, too! 18 days today :goodvibes I think most of here would agree planning is almost half the fun! We don't have our next trip planned either, and it's SO much easier to leave Disney when you know exactly when you're returning. I believe we're going in the spring and would love to solidify the dates before leaving for this trip, but with all the stuff Steve and I have going on the next couple weeks, I don't think we'll have the time even if he was willing!

We just got one of these in Toronto and it is SO awesome! Makes me want to buy everything.

I like the idea of staying in DS until dinner too, Steve is just feeling sorry for himself that he may have less vacation time than Chris and I. I totally understand him, and I'm very thankful he's willing to stay back with Ricky IF he ends up making the team. Steve looks forward to our vacations as much as I do, and no way would I have offered to miss Disney time lol! Well, maybe I would have for my kid - I guess :rolleyes1
So I think what it'll come down to is 1. do we all go together or not and 2. if we don't, what do Steve and Ricky feel like doing :)

I don't remember the last time I commented, I'm the worst!

Good for you for being able to keep two different schedules straight! You must be getting close to fining out about Ricky's basketball schedule now?

You're so close to your trip! I can't wait to read your trip report :)
