I love the Percy Jackson books and can't wait for the movie!

I'm currently on Book 3 of the series (I just started them last weekend). I really like the books much more than I thought I would, though as a major Harry Potter fan, there are just *too many* parallels to ignore (and yes, I know the Percy books were in the works before Potter came out, but really? A magical kid in a cruddy home environment is taken away to a magical camp/school and embarks on several epic journeys from there?).

Anyways, I think the movie was enjoyable, but I kind of wish I hadn't read the books first. I was really excited to see certain things from the book that didn't make the cut (come on, spoileralert!! where's Ares?! The 3 headed dog!? The attack on the St. Louis arch!? the Furies on the bus?!endspoiler) One other thing I couldn't get over (and it's very much a personal thing). I don't like Poseidon's casting. Mostly because I don't like his character on Grey's Anatomy, so watching him trying to be the good dad wannabe was just irritating to me when I can't help but remember him trying to choke Christina on Grey's.

The things that did make it and were expanded were good. The Lotus Casino was far different than I thought it would be (and seemed a bit more mary jane enhanced), and I really liked Aunty Em's scene as well.

I would say go see it, but realize that there will be a LOT more changes to the story than you'd realize walkign in to it.

We saw the movie today (myself, DD10 and her friend 11), and loved it. But none of us had read the book, so we didn't have any expectations of the characters or the story line.

DD, DH and myself saw the movie this afternoon and I have to say we all enjoyed it greatly. We LOVE the books, I read the first couple aloud to DD and DH heard too. You have to separate yourself from the books to enjoy the movie IMHO. Did it stray far from the book, yes but it is a fun movie anyway.

I did think it interesting that it was made without a lot of clues or hints about a sequel. The books are a five story arc but clearly the studio is hedging its' bets about spending more money unless this one does well.

DH and I saw the late show last night. I fell asleep a little but not because it was boring- I was really tired! Anyway, I liked it. Dh complained that the movie wasn't as good as the book. Duh. Does anyone ever leave the theater and say, "Gee. That was way better than the book"? No! It is just cool to see a book you enjoed on the big screen- to see who they cast and how those characters and scenes live up to your interpretations.

I have read all five books and can't wait to see the movie Monday!

I have seen a movie that was better than the book! The Time traveler's wife. All the great love story without the raunch!!!

Took DD to see the movie on Friday. She has read the books her Dad and I have not. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised, I actually enjoyed the movie. DD noted many of the differences from the books also but still enjoyed the movie itself.
