I just found out that on Oct 31st they will be having "Storybook Day" and all the kids are supposed to come to school wearing a costume!!! We will also be having a "Fall Party" that day. DD is so excited that she gets to wear her princess costume to school.

So many schools are just getting rid of all celebrations or even acknowledging the day. Sure, I wish it was the good all days and we could have an actual Halloween Party and Halloween costumes. But at least her school is doing what they can to make it a fun day for the kids and letting them enjoy childhood.

My daughter's school is having a Halloween party and parade that day. Any costume is okay as long as it doesn't depict violence or gore.

I love her school too. They go all out for the holidays and they even have a Disney Day in the Spring. :)

According to my GF who works in a school system, due to various beliefs the school are unable to participate in "holidays". They have to come up with a tie in to education (a learning experience) to get these things approved by whomever needs to approve of such things. IMO it's sad that kids just can't be kids anymore :sad2:

i love that the school i teach in is having a halloween party/parade ON halloween!! im so happy to have my classroom be a part of it

Nice to see a post from someone who likes their child's school :thumbsup2
I love dd's school too.

I feel blessed that we go to a private school so they don't have to follow all the state regulations. It's actually a Catholic school, so the kids will wear their costumes to school on Halloween, do Trunk-or-Treat in the parking lot in the afternoon, then have a Halloween party in their classrooms. Grades PreK-3 will also do a costume parade.

actually, i think most schools are creative enough to figure things out. and do something for most holidays.

Our school has a HALLOWEEN parade and party on halloween. Oh and it's going to be BIG this year since it's on a friday. Love it!

Our school does nothing, can't even bring in cupcakes!

Our school in NJ use to have a Halloween parade outside around the school so the parents could come and the kids would have a party. The principal would even dress up.

I REALLY miss our old school!

That is AWESOME!! :thumbsup2

Our elementary school doesn't officially celebrate Halloween, although for some strange reason the PreK gets to dress up and parade. Having a small "Fall Party" is up to the discretion of the teacher..the older grades usually don't do anything. I think it is a shame, I used to look forward to Halloween in grade school..we would work in the morning, go home for lunch and come back in our costumes to have a party all afternoon.

But....I    our school. It is one of the best schools in our county, and the teachers, staff, and children are so nice and respectful. I couldn't have picked ( actually we won the lottery, it's a magnet school) a better school, even if it were private..I feel so lucky for us to be there.

We have Book Character dress up day, where the kids can dress up like their favorite book character...lot's of Harry Potters on that day. It is also a "read-in" day, and all they have to do all day long is read..:goodvibes

We are out on Halloween, Its Nevada Day! But the day before we have a Halloween Party. They even get to dress up, although most teachers will ask what piece of history or literature you are representing.

I wish our school was like that. Now it's all about time on task, time on task.
It's all very tiring for the kids. No more parties or celebrations. Got to love state testing.
