I love my new dog! How am I supposed to leave her for WDW vacations?

I love my new dog! How am I supposed to leave her for WDW vacations? We can take her camping and to many hotels, but I wouldn't want to take her to WDW.

How do you all handle it? We leave our cats home and the in-laws watch them. I did miss them terribly one WDW vacation. S

At WDW, pets aren't allowed staying at any of the resorts but they do offer 2 kennels on site. I have seen people in the past who stop in twice a day to visit their pets there. However, I find that would really detract from the vacation.

We have a shih tzu who is three, and we have been to Disney 3 times since we've gotten her. Each time, we have left her with the inlaws. She stays with them and even sleeps in their bed.

Hopefully, you can find someone who your dog feels really at home with and enjoys visiting even when you are at home!

Our dog is now a senior citizen, but when we vacation, she also goes 'on vacation' - luckily gets to stay with my folks!

They're dog people but don't have one now because of all the travelling they do. They love having her and my mom spoils her rotten!

I would never have been able to kennel her and the only other option I would suggest, would be having someone come and stay in your home with your dog while you're away.

We just got back from 2 weeks away on Saturday and we kenneled Cricket - our 1.5yo Brittany Spaniel. It was one of the hardest thing I've had to do. But I know he was happy and we looked at it as if he was on vacation. Next August when we go I'm going to leave him with the IL's instead as I know he'll be happy there.

I love my babies and have used a "pet spa" in the past....now I feel that 2 out of 3 are a little to elderly for that....luckily DB will be staying home this time and watching out for them. Right now I need the vacation from the one year old Riley...aka "Boom-Boom"!.

I don't sleep well without them though!

Sandra, I feel for you. It is like leaving the kids but they seem to understand it better and don't hold a grudge! My dog is mad at me for days when we return from vacation even though she is treated like royalty at home by my parents!

Boy do I relate to this. We have a greenwing macaw, a cockatiel, a cat, a dog and a fish. I have to make arrangements for all our critters before we leave including our house which adds a three hundred bucks on to the trip just for pet and house care. This will be the first time kenneling our dog for that long. It is a fantastic kennel but I feel guilty even though I know he is very well taken care of.

I agree, leaving your pets behind on a vacation is the worst part of the whole trip. We have kenneled our dogs before, but found that the best solution for us was to hire a house sitter. She was a young lady from our church that we knew, and she came and stayed at our house for the time we were away. The dogs got to stay in their own environment, still got two walks a day, playtime and found it far less stressful than being in a kennel. I know I sure felt alot less guilty! The cost of having someone stay at your home was just slightly more than kenneling. Plus you got the added security of having someone watch your home too. Works perfect for us!

This trip we're renting a home in Orlando that allows pets. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my dogs in a hotel room all day (barking at strange sounds, cleaning staff in the room, etc) but I think it will be fine in a house. No different than when we leave them to go to work except we'll be spending our 9 to 5 at Disney.

take the dog with you they got good kennels and if it makes you feel good pay for it and enjoy it donnt let it ruin your hoilday
