I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

No. The only exception may be if it is an EDIT hotel, which is similar to FHR, you may need to present the CSR for them to honor benefits. But I am not sure about that and 99% of hotels aren't EDIT hotels.
Thanks. I do remember needing my Amex Platinum for FHR benefits. The hotel I booked isn’t an Edit hotel so no benefits provided.

When I did a prepaid booking through the portal when I arrived they just wanted any card for incidentals they didnt care if it matched what I booked with.
Thank you that’s what I assumed I just wanted to ask.

That strategy requires you to start the CP earning process in Oct or Nov so that you can earn the first SUB (sign up bonus) early in Jan and still have enough time between your two applications not to set off any alarm bells. Because you have a spouse, you have a "P2" (second "player" in this hobby). That is a huge help as well because you can "support" each other's applications. (The "R" word - referral - is not used here because referrals aren't allowed on DIS.).

This is what I would do if I were you:

One of you (P1) should apply for the SW personal card immediately. As soon as you receive the card and can generate a "support" link, P2 should apply using that support link. BUT - and this is critical - do NOT meet the minimum spend requirement (MSR) on either card until AFTER Jan 1. Then meet the MSR asap on/after Jan 1. In December, you should each support each other for a SW biz card application. Again, do not meet the MSR until AFTER Jan 1 (then meet the MSR asap after Jan 1). Each of you will then earn a CP good for the rest of 2025 and 2026.
Thank you so much! I've applied for and been approved for the SW personal card and will be sure to apply for the SW Biz card as well in December, I am confused a little confused by the parts I've bolded though. If I'm reading this right, I think this means we would each have 2 cards, a personal and a business card each at the same time. Is that correct? If we don't need two companion passes (Its only myself and DH travelling) would we still need four cards or would just one personal and one business work? OR did you mean I get two cards this year and then DH gets two cards near end of 2026 and then we keep alternating like that? Thank you again!

If you only need one CP then only one of you gets the cards as noted.... then the other can refer to 2nd person near end of that 2 year mark (end of '26)

We are toying with a weekend getaway to Vegas in Nov. I have the $100 off $500 on a few of my Chase cards when booking through the portal, however, even with the $100 off, in almost all cases it's still more expensive than booking directly with the hotel.

Good morning all, It’s been a minute with life being hectic with our one and only off to college and preparing to move south after 20 years in our home.

For Southwest cards, can someone remind me of the rules?

If I have a SW Biz, can I open another?

If I have a SW Personal, can I open Biz?

I completely forgot what these darn rules are.

You can have multiple SW Biz cards but only one personal. You can have both personal and biz. So yes and yes.

Anyone have any thoughts on which cards to pay for big ticket items at the beginning of the calendar year?

Dual question, I guess. Say you anticipate $30k spend that is going to be in the first few months of the year. What cards make the most sense for large spend, coupled with any timing thoughts being the beginning of the year?

Any statuses that can be earned for the current year plus the next year? So could get almost 2 years of something interesting.

Not eligible for Southwest SUB right now.

If you need to use your Dell credits. Rakuten is 15% CB at Dell today. Topcashback is 16% if you use TCB. I dont have any Dell offers on my Amex Plat Biz at this time though so I may hold out for a better deal

I've had one time where it was cheaper, and I think that had more to do with the exchange rate (they didn't update their prices), but I normally only use it to book international hotels, the price difference is usually less than 5% higher and I always use my CSR points to book which makes it cheaper.

I was trying to take advantage of this plus the 10,000 point offer, but now I can't find the point offer anywhere on my account.

As with most things in life - it depends. FM has a great write up about big spend bonuses HERE. Some get you elite status, some get you a free hotel night, some get you a companion ticket. Where you want to travel to & from, what places you want to stay, all make the decision a very individual one.

A new card will give you more bang for your buck. A Chase Ink or Amex biz plat or biz gold. Opening the biz plat in December, you can triple dip the airline credit.

We've done Hyatt cc spend for Milestones and Globalist status, but it only makes sense if you have a decent amount of Hyatt stays. In a pinch, I've also done the Hilton biz $15k spend for FNC (which is no longer a benefit on the biz card, but still is on the Surpass).

@LavaMama, congrats on the instant approval! I see that your question was answered. As hsmamato2 mentioned, you will probably want to repeat the process in 2 yrs so that you can earn the CP again for 2027-28. I didn't mention that in my original explanation but it is an important tip about the CP. If you decide to do it again in 2 years, make sure the person who is going to apply factors these 2 cards into their 5/24 and pacing plans.

Was looking yesterday but nothing caught my eye. Will roll the dice and wait for around Black Friday when Rakuten will be at least 15% again and hopefully Dell has some good sales. Also have a spend 500 get 120 back on my Amex Gold but that would mean spending 700 to use both offers by splitting the payments and that's a lot for something I don't currently need.

Woke up thinking of @Haley R and wondering how you fared during the hurricane last night. Hope you and your family are safe.

Also @Psychodisney and @havaneselover 's Mom and anyone else I can't remember before coffee.
Thanks for thinking of us. We’re good. We’re on the east coast so didn’t get hit as hard. We did have tornado warnings yesterday and the wind right now is pretty nasty. We still have power. I haven’t been outside yet to check things. A neighbor told me they lost some of their pool screens but that’s it
