?? about Chase Personal vs Business cards.

This never occurred to me before as I always pay the bill on the due date but when I logged in this morning my personal card's statement had closed and it was showing the new balance due for the next month.

The business card that has the same due date was showing $0 due for last month and the statement had not posted.

I went and dug through mine and P2's accounts and seems like the business cards have to be paid a week before the statement close date but for the majority of the personal cards they only have to be paid 4 days before the statement ends. We have a few exceptions on the personal cards for those that close on the 1-3rd of the month but generally it is 4 days on the personal cards.

Curious if this is the normal behavior for others.
All my personal card have a due date 3 days before the next statement close date. For my business cards it is 6 days before. It doesn't matter if I have changed my preferred due date or not. It is always 3 days for personal and 6 days for business.

CS Platinum retention DP - was offered 15,000 MRs for $3k in spend in 3 months. I put very little spend on my Platinum. I was keeping the card regardless.
If you're going to keep the card without the retention bonus I would look elsewhere for the $3k spend. You could probably do better than 15k MR.

Our Discover HYSA already dropped to 4.10 I think it is...this was like a week and a half ago!
I have my cash savings with Wealthfront which is still at 5% as of now. When I opened the account it was 2% which at the time was crazy high for a risk free return. How the times have changed.

At 3/24, would you go CSP or CIU first? The CSP is the one I really want most but I understand the Inks do not count toward 5/24 only that you have to be under when you apply.

DH and I would like to experience more phenomenon travel (think cherry blossoms, great migration, tulips, etc). We've loved our two trips to Iceland and so I follow travel info and pics about Iceland. Showed this to DH:

Aurora and a volcanic eruption, at the same time!!!!! DH, who never, ever, ever asks for anything, said, we should go to Iceland now that we have time in October. And then he was like, let's just go see what kind of gear they have at the outlets... 🤣

So, on a whim, I booked a trip to Iceland in hopes of seeing the Northern Lights. If there's some new volcanic activity, that would be an incredible fortuitous bonus. We've only ever been in summer, so we are looking forward to some cozy winterish weather, just the two of us.

I scored The Reykjavik EDITION the one night of the month I could use a FNC.
Booked IcelandAir on the Chase Travel portal using CSR @ 46k/rt/pp (economy)
Will use up some Hilton GCs at the Iceland Parliament hotel.
Plan to explore the West Coast and Snaefelsness peninsula from a cozy Airbnb, using discounted GCs.
I requested and got a discount on car rental through Blue Car Rental, plus free driver, but I wish I could offset this cost somehow.

But a 5 nt trip to Iceland for 2 about $900 (outlet spending excluded 😂). And hopefully we'll get lucky enought to see Aurora. But I'm so super blessed to have a hubby like I do and I'd cozy up anywhere with him.
My husband stayed up until 3am a couple of nights this past August because we heard there were marginal conditions for the aurora. Now, I'm showing him the pictures from that subreddit and he's also trying to figure out how to get there. My son was volcano monitoring but it erupted 5 days after we left. I, on the other hand, am dying to see the midnight sun. I think a couple of trips are in order. :DIceland is just so spectacular.

Not sure. I have a lot of spend I put on cards (probably six figures) because I pay my quarterly tax estimastes online so I can't put it all toward MSRs. I've really only been getting new Ink cards and I'm limited to 4 at most per year following the 90 day rule so that's < $40k of MSR. I would love to be missing something, but I'm not sure I am.

so are these Hilton gc's basically worthless? I have a couple I'd like to use at some point but has anyone been successful?
I've had them work once. I know at least two times they have not gotten them to work. I believe they were all at Home 2 Suites. And I tend to check out around 6 AM with a long drive ahead of me so there's no manager on duty. I'm hoping I can use them at the Waldorf Buckhead in December when dd graduates--I'm thinking they should have good customer service.

I applied a few weeks ago for a CIU and had auto approval. "DH" applied for a SW Biz Premier on Saturday. He has the same stats as me re: number of cards, credit limit, and household income. It's been crickets. I've always either had a denial letter or a card show up in his account within 36 hours. Should he call recon? If it's a must, he will. But I know he doesn't prefer it. Or just let it ride? Is it possible to be approved with this days-long wait?
Data point: Denial after four days. This is putting a crimp in my SW Companion pass plans for both of us. I'm just 5,000 points shy and he's 10,000 points shy. Closing another Ink of his and I think a personal CFU since they referenced they looked at both personal and business information. We were still under the recommended $75k credit limit, but may have danced too close to it. (Though I was auto approved with the same stats, so who truly knows?)

I think both of you are so close to the CP that you could probably make it happen without opening a SW card. Have you looked at the shopping portal (up to 2000 bonus points [$350 spend] ends today), dining program, hotel program, and car rentals through the SW portal? FWIW, once the CP is issued I haven't seen it clawed back.

We did an ice cave tour on our first trip and it was a pretty amazing experience. Now with the recent tourist death when an ice cave collapsed this summer, I really look back on that experience differently, all four kids and us in a cave in the summer. Sounds like winter is very safe, but I think it's a one and done for us.
Yes, I had no idea they even did them in summer until that news. When we went, the park ranger guide told us it should only be done in winter (that's the rule at Vatnajökull glacier, but apparently not at Breiðamerkurjökull, where the accident occurred). But I understand!

Thank you. That's definitely Plan B. I had an offer for 500 RR points for doing a survey, so I did that. I'll be intentional about the portal, too. At least I have a couple more months! (I currently have a CP that expires 12/31/24, but with family travel next year, it would be very helpful for both DH and I to have it.)

Can someone remind me when the best time to apply for SWA cards to earn CP for 2025-2026 is? In my mind, I am thinking the first one in October?? I will need to get both the Biz and Personal cards. When I did it a couple of years ago, I got the Biz card first, then the personal one. Does it have to be done in that order? I see the personal card currently has an elevated 85k RR points offer, which says limited time only so I am not sure when that would expire. And how far apart do I apply for them? I want to book a flight for early Feb so I would like to have earned CP by then if possible.
I received an email about the 85K RR offer and it says to apply by October 9th, which is a week or so earlier than I'd want to, just to allow myself some cushion in January to make sure I don't hit the spend too early (or too late). I'll have to set myself multiple reminders to make sure I finish my spend those first couple days of January.

ok you answered my question......thanks

I remember reading last year something about changing the due date on your account to help with the timing of it, but I don't remember exactly what the details were. I'd imagine I read about it either here or on reddit - but it seemed to be helping people make sure the points didn't post until January.

How much do folks here value American Airlines miles? Having gotten some good deals in the past year like roundtrip flights to Tokyo on JAL and over 2 cpp on domestic flights, I avoid using them and just pay cash when redemptions are 1 - 1.3 cpp. I think I have scarcity mentality, lol, but over the past year I've done well earning through the shopping portal and am wondering if I should relax

Ive just started using the portal recently when my points were about to expire so I could prevent them from expiring. They do have some shopping point bonuses. Looking forward to hearing what people have to say.

The shopping bonuses are pretty frequent. That's been helpful. I almost always buy through that portal unless SW has a much better bonus going (though SW points are easier to accumulate).

Out of specific points currency (for hotels, airlines), I value AA the most. I always get great value from my AA miles. We've gone R/T to Bozeman this year for 12k miles, we're going to Colorado next month for 12k roundtrip, and going to Punta Cana in December nonstop for 16k roundtrip. Maybe my home airport (CLT) factors in since it's a hub, but I love AA miles and can always find good value. With that said, I never pay cash for flights on AA. I value "free" travel more than cpp.

Does anyone know a way to rent a car for a day or two in San Diego, on a Saturday or Sunday besides renting from the airport? Really just need it for a Sunday so thinking of ride share from hotel to airport car rental place - probably cheaper than renting for two/three days since the local rental places seemed to be closed on Sunday and have limited hours on Saturday.
