Been having issues with $200 visa gift cards. Last week I was trying to run five to get two money orders for $499.54. It was declining the cards. I was told that was because the transaction was for $1000 but that was never an issue before.

After church today I stopped at a food lion and was told no gift cards for money orders. Then I tried another one and the first card got declined. Asked him to run it as five $200 transactions. The first two went through. The next three got declined. I called the 888 number and was told I can’t use these at food lion.
I was actually wondering if this would affect you. With all the talk of Simon cards not working. I always envied your ability to liquidate Staples VGC. It seems (so far) to be limited to $500 or less transactions. No personal experience just a lot of talk about Simons getting blocked this week, which are issued by Blackhawk like Staples.

Your post made me curious, so I looked ours up. Auto policy, 2 cars, $878 for the whole year with Travelers. We don't drive much these days (2008 Buick and 2011 Subaru). Our homeowners is more than that though.
That's good. Ours is $1060 per year with Travelers. 2020 Subaru/2016 Jeep. We didn't qualify for the safe drivers thing where you drive using their app for 90 days because DH didn't log enough miles. Because he works from home. And doesn't drive anywhere but taking DS to school 3 days per week. 🤦‍♀️ We switched to Travelers 6 months ago because previous insurance jumped up and now Travelers has increased $150/year already. Can't win which is why I hate insurance companies so much.

I don't do money orders, but most of the DG stores in my area have stopped allowing 'debit' cards for Serve loads :'( I have one DG that still works but it really is cramping my style...lol

I miss my $600/year car insurance before the kids were driving:( But my homeowners isn't even 10% of my auto cost. So I guess I should appreciate that.

So tweeted at them and no gift cards. And apparently they aren't aware of any change in pricing on SW Twitter. (I can't read the article you shared as it's behind a paywall)

It wasn’t behind a paywall for me (and I don’t pay for USAtoday), maybe something wrong with how I copy/pasted. Just googling I see a similar story on MSN, The Street, Yahoo news, ….

I flew first class American a number of years ago from LHR to SFO (through philly?) and no PJs. I mostly fly BA these days but I did fly flagship business on American back and forth to London for a tier point run in December. It was nice, and better than certain planes on BA business, but first in BA compared to first in American I’d take BA. I’d also take business BA with their new suites versus American as well. So as Calypso said check the planes :) If you want PJs it’s BA first.

P.S I’m in London now too :) We go back next Friday via MCO for the Princess half.
Same. We flew AA a while back in F, SFO>LHR and it was very nice. Much better than J on BA, but I find AA to be difficult to deal with so we are back with flights on BA this summer. I can't find any BA flights in F, sadly.

ETA - Oops. Our flights were actually JFK>LHR on the way out and back was LHR>LAX. Personally I go for the most direct route I can find these days.

I was reading a blogger article yesterday that said that AA is taking their 2 planes with first class out of service in 2024 and replacing them with an updated biz class product. With that being said I got to thinking I would like to try to fly first with AA before that happens. The same article said that AA releases first class seats within 2 wks of departure, so I looked to see what is available for my return from London on March 5th. While I was trying to secure a seat on the 5th the points cost kept creeping upwards. Changed date to the 6th and I snagged a seat for 85k AA pts for flight from LHR --> JFK. I will have to spend an extra night in London and get myself from JFK --> LGA to fly home, but I am somewhat okay with that (I can get a flight from LGA --> YYZ for 6k AP pts in economy class). I have a few concerns:
  • how long will a taxi take from JKF ---> LGA around 3:30pm on a Monday afternoon?
  • does AA give out pajamas in first class on international daytime flights (I called and the CSR said the system said they do, but I think a few here have flown AA home from LHR @tink1970 @Calfan @CaliforniaGirl09 @calypso726 @FreeDiningFanatic
  • how long will it take to clear customs at JFK T8?
Am I crazy for thinking of doing this when I have a direct biz class flight on BA booked on March 5?
I flew Flagship First from BOS-LHR, so it was an overnight flight, last June and I forgot about the PJs. Supposedly they have a Casper sleep set with PJs and slippers but I wasn't offered and I didn't think to ask. I'd think you could ask? Did get the Shinola amenity kit at embarkation.

I can't compare as I have very little front of the plane experience, but while it was very nice having a lie-flat seat and the extra service, I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to do it again. If convenient, sure, there wasn't anything bad about it!! But I just happened into it when looking for "good" seats and this was the cheapest reasonable option for my schedule.

And traveling NYC is unpredictable, I'd plan for an hour between JFK and LGA and be happy if it was less. I'm not a heavy traveler of the area but the times I have are always unpredictable no matter the time of day.

I’m wanting to sign up for TSA PreCheck. Is a passport required for it? I’m looking at the website and the way I’m reading it is that I can just bring our license and birth certificate and not need a passport to apply, is that correct? We don’t have a passport yet, but plan to make our appointments this week. I didn’t want to have to wait until our passports come in if I don’t have to. We have early May flights so I’m not even sure if our passports will arrive by then to start with.

Yes you can sign up with your DL and birth certificate

My homeowners is $854 (paid in September) and lower because I've got a 1% deductible, meaning no small claims are ever made.

On the phone with Liberty Mutual. My six-month premium is $2200 (insuring two teens is awesome). Using eleven $200 visa gift cards. The lady is very nice but totally hates me.

$2000 more to spend.
Going back to your post - considering you have a new car, plus whatever your kids are driving - your rate for 3 is not that far off from what I'm asked to pay, if you multiplied my $691 by 3 - $2073. Me being an old person and all....maybe they are charging me for that, lol.

I worked hard to get great rates for all 3 of my kids, all through State Farm as they were growing up. All were reasonable (considering all factors) and everything was fine until son got to be 25 plus.

Then Mom's advice was less sought out or listened to. He got 2 tickets on one stop on the beltway, and with points. I told him to go to court and fight it - they'll drop the points. Didn't listen, just paid the fine. Insurance tripled.

Woke up to an alarming email from Chase, that I had a new letter in my account. It was dated yesterday, and said they had approved my application. My last application was Jan 23, but when I called, they said yes, the letter was about that!

I got a couple of emails from PNC Sunday morning at 4 AM that a new mobile account was trying to link to my checking account, the hold time was really long when I called about that so I just changed my username and password. Not sure what that was about.

Quill offer on Chase Biz cards.
Earn 20% back on all of your Quill.com purchases, until a $50.00 back maximum is reached.

I know they sell VGC, but you have to register as a business. Has anyone registered their "business"?

Yes, I’ve done this. It’s been awhile, but I believe it was as simple as just signing up for a business account under my name - I don’t think any additional “business” info was required. I will give a warning though - check how quickly the offer expires. Last time I used a Quill offer, it had a super short expiration date (like 5 days, I think?) Quill took awhile to ship my VGC, and the transaction ended up posting after the offer expired, so I didn’t end up getting anything back. That said, I’ve used other Quill offers in the past with no issue - I was just unlucky on that one.

I did this the last time I got a ticket (5+ years ago) and not only did they not drop anything, I had to also pay court costs so it ended up costing me more than if I had just paid the fine. That is in Ohio so it may vary, but I was super annoyed I did that.

Agreed. Our oldest car is five years old. Thankfully we have no tickets or accidents (although we have been to court once with DS to get a ticket dropped).

And the little bit that my insurance went up going from an 11-year old minivan to a fully loaded CRV was offset by the gas savings. Unfortunately the personal property tax bill will be brutal, but I'll manage.

I did this at one point. I'm hesitant to buy any since I'm having issues liquidating them at the moment.

They currently have a 45 day expiration, but I'm going to order them ASAP and I don't want them to disappear.
