We got our room early at Boardwalk today and we’re loving it! It’s gonna be hard to go back to studios after this 😆 DS loves the giant balcony and the big jet tub lol. We went into Epcot to get the new Dumbo AP magnet and a very nice cm came to us and gave ds a stuffed Winnie the Pooh for free 😍 He mainly did it to see how long it took for us to get through the line but I thought it was a nice touch

Yeah and it’s hard to compare a resort with housekeeping, room service and free breakfast with Airbnb. Both have benefits but not exactly apples to oranges
Exactly. They are definitely Airbnb people (they are in their mid-20s). Don't get me wrong, I love a good Airbnb too, but nothing compares to an amazing resort in my opinion. Different priorities for different generations, lol.

Yes, I did show pictures. We are planning to stay there regardless if they go or not, lol. It just seems steep to them, because in Arenal we're just renting an Airbnb (house) and splitting it so it's like $200 each couple. So to ask them to pay almost 700/4 nts is outrageous to them. Of course, if they listened to me and would start using CC to their benefit, then they could just get their own room with points and then it's a non-issue.

In my opinion, this will likely not turn out well. If $150/nt is steep to them, my sense is they will be disappointed by EVERYTHING. They'll be expecting perfection for their $700! Also, the food costs are going to be astronomical to them. I would suggest this couple take a look at the website and book the cash stay, for their own room, if they are interested. That would certainly be a price to balk at!

Anyone open Chase accounts in branch before? I am an existing customer but not checking (thinking of the $900 bonus), I wonder if it’s quick and easy or will be long and tedious. Thanks!

I was receiving a weird message when trying to open the account online, something like "Unable to open account online" and some error code. Went in-branch; took like 20 minutes and was easy. Received print-outs confirming the $900 offer and the qualifications for each, plus printouts of all the account and routing numbers. Really easy.

She said it was the first $900 code she has processed and was pretty excited for DH.

posting with the free Delta wi-fi for Skymiles members. It is definitely live 😜. For more interest here are a few sunset photos from Clearwater Beach View attachment 733776

LOL, it wouldn’t be the first time it didn’t turn out well for them. It’s my sister and brother in law. We don’t typically travel with them because all our stuff is paid with points as opposed to they do all cash, we stay in nicer places, we travel internationally and they stick to local travel, and not to mention our travel styles and interests are just totally different. They are in their mid-20s, whereas DH is over the hump of 40, and I’m close behind. But they are absolutely insistent on going on an international trip with us this year. I didn’t even break the news to them yet that they’ll both need passports 🤣 I know some of you guys have pains of traveling with family, but gosh. It’s rough y’all, haha. You did give me a good idea though… I SHOULD have them look at the real cash price of the rooms, so then maybe they’ll think it’s a steal at $150/nt. That’s certainly one way to put it into perspective for them!!!

Has anyone stayed at the Hyatt Los Altos in Manuel Antonio? Is there an additional fee for over 2 adults? I'm looking for 4 adults, it shows 21K per nt in Rainforest Suite, and says there may be additional fee per person over 2, but I can't find the fee listed anywhere.

ETA: I think I may have found it from previous posts. Is it $150/nt. for an additional 2 persons? Has anyone stayed recently that can confirm?
This may be zero help, but if you do ultimately look for an alternative to the Hyatt Los Altos resort experience, we stayed at https://villasnicolas.com/NewSite/ and thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful views, monkeys everywhere and quieter location outside of Quepos (between Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park). And the rates were very reasonable!

I've heard from others that the Canadian side is better, how hard is it really to cross over if we were to get a hotel on the American side? The Sheraton FallsView looks beautiful, but yikes, those Bonvoy point redemption rates are brutal!
Definitely a better view of the Niagara Falls from the Canadian side. The American side view is pretty but you cannot help but see all of the tourist attractions and buildings on the Canadian side. 😃 The Canadian view of America is a much more natural look at the falls.

We were leaving Canada en route to Cooperstown when we spent a half day at Niagara. We took a boat tour of the falls (highly recommend) before crossing the border, then drove across Rainbow Bridge to renter USA. It was an easy process then and we have been back to a different part of Canada post Covid and it was just as easy still, so I assume Niagara will be the same.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out. I guess I do need to come up with a backup plan "airbnb" type place, in case they are just absolutely and utterly against my plans to stay at Los Altos. DH says if they don't conform, then we just go without them, lol.

This looks lovely. If I didn't have a kid, I might consider it. Just for fun, I put in our dates in March and the rate is $150 per night, while far less than the rate at Los Altos just up the road, it would not be any cheaper for @Crazed4DisneyinSC guests. Even looking at the cheap hotels nearby, $100 per night seems about average but we are going during spring break which may have elevated prices.

Personally I'd tell them you are staying at Los Altos and they are welcome to join you. By all means let them see the full prices. Otherwise they can find an Airbnb nearby and you can still do activities together.
PS. Please note the cancellation at Los Altos is 30 days or you will be assessed cash penalty.

took a boat tour of the falls (highly recommend)

I recommend taking a rain jacket or better poncho than the ones they provide if you do the boat tour. It made it much better and dryer. Also put my camera in a zip lock with only the end of the lense through a hole which was much safer to get good pics.

I agree with what @CyndiLouWho said 🙂

I agree with your DH. Years ago we would adjust dates to accommodate others who wanted to come with, even though it was more expensive. After having people back out twice with set dates, we stopped accommodating dates. It became here is when we are going, come or don’t.

Sometime down the line, we learned the lesson of not accommodating plans for others who insisted on coming with us. It was more stressful and then we felt like we didn’t get to do some things we wanted, in order to make things feasible for the entire travel party.

Travel with family is like herding cats sometimes and mine doesn’t do the points and miles game. So we stick to the annual big family Disney trip Thanksgiving week. This is more manageable since DH and I handle everything and they are just responsible for driving to WDW and their meals.

We also have a group of friends we travel with often and some of them do a little bit of points and miles. Sometimes we are all able to do the same thing, same place, same time on a trip like the recent Galapagos one and there were 9 of us.

Sometimes on some trips we do some things together and sometimes we do our own thing. We’ve got a group of 12 going on our med cruise and DH and I are staying at Le Meridien with a FN cert from BonBlah before the cruise, one couple is at a Hyatt on points and some are at an Air BnB paying cash. After the cruise some are heading to Normandy, some of us are at DLP for 2 nights and some 3 nights, some are staying in Paris and some going home and we are going to Wales. Everyone is perfectly ok with this. Our friends group trip to Egypt with ABD is shaping up to be about the same scenario. Different plans pre and post stay.

We keep the group posted In a chat we have and keep everyone up to date on what we are doing. They can decide if they are in or not. Of course I always help them with using their points and miles to book fights and hotels.

So yeah, I agree with the others who said show them the real money cost, tell them what your doing and then let them decide.

Oh and Happy Lunar New Year everyone!

Thanks guys. Exactly the moral support I needed, lol. Sometimes I tend to bend over backwards for my only sibling, the “baby” of the family. I think we’re just going to have a serious convo with them, and give them the option to either stay with us for $150/nt or find their own accommodations. I think once they start searching on their own, they’ll realize it’s not the cheapest area.

As a side note, we’re going in December, so Southwest flights won’t come out til awhile from now. Is availability at Los Altos pretty good about 6 months out, or does it frequently fill up? We’re not going around Christmas… more like first week of December, potentially Dec 2-9. Can I wait to book til we secure flights? Obviously we want to fly on whatever the cheapest days are on points, and I won’t know what those are til the schedule is released for December.

To people who have opened the Chase 900 bonus accounts, when you are asked to log into your existing accounts, did you log in with your personal account credentials or your combined login (which is actually the business credential). I am trying to avoid the errors that have happened to some people because there is no branch near me where I can try to get it fixed lol.
