Has anyone flown Virgin Premium overseas? I'm a few weeks from being able to book plane tickets from Dulles to London and I'm considering transfering URs to Virgin. Two premium tickets will probably be something like 110,000 points plus $2,500. I can also probably book through Chase for 280k URs or so. Just estimating fares based on July 2025 prices. United also has nonstops from Dulles, but their prices seem much higher. I don't know why I can't figure out international flying on points.
Agreed, it can get tricky when it isn't apples to apples comparisons.
Via Virgin- (110kUR x .015)+ $2500= $4,150
Via Chase portal- (280k UR x .015) + $0= $4,200

So really very equivalent. If you book through the Chase portal though, I believe (I am not sure) you can earn airline miles on that $4,200 in spend (not sure what airline loyalty program best to credit it to), which would probably be very nice. On the other hand, whenever you can it's advised to book directly with the airline and you'd earn cc miles on the $2500 in taxes.

I received a snail mail and offer in Amex account for 175k/$10k/3 mos for biz gold, so snagged it because my other 200,000 mile car also is not worth it's newest repair need. Yikes, replacing two cars in a month. I wanted to be proactive and have a card in hand when we buy something, but I'm making some assumptions that they'll accept cc and that it can be Amex. Maybe I was too impulsive.

Unfortunately, I would have liked to hit the Ink train again, but it's really too soon and if I did push it, I wouldn't get the SW biz card DH will need this year for another year of CP.

DP re: Amex cell phone insurance benefit

DD scracked her screen and had liquid damage to her older iPhone XR. Submitted claim for newish (iphone 14) phone for $773.06, including repair estimate ($399) from Apple. Reimbursed $723.06 (full amt less $50 deductible). Took about 4 weeks to issue payment.

Pretty easy process but there was some documentation back and forth due to some other recent changes to the cell phone acct, which I think led to some confusion. Anyway, a great benefit.

Has anyone else noticed that the UR redemption rate through the Chase travel portal ( CSP specifically) is awful. Last time a booked a hotel it was 1.25 value and now I see .07… I’m looking at Galveston, but have searched a few others. That’s not a good value at all.

I’m missing the instacart plus membership free from Chase so I paid $19 for a year. It’s not bad since I can get $100 gift cards from Costco for $80. My mom is sick (hopefully just a bad cold) and out of bottled water and it’s so nice to be able to send her what she needs and have it delivered in an hour.

Booking through the portal with a CSP is exactly 1.25 cent per point of the cash rate available in the portal. Sometimes this rate is more than booking direct or other third parties. Is this what you're comparing to?

That's a great use for it. How did you get instacart+ for $19 a year? I would like in on that. I am paying $9.99/mo.

A few times since I lost membership when I've gone to place an order I've had an offer for $19 for a year that pops up right before I place the order. I usually pick up my order, but since I was delivering to my mom, it was saving me about $9 off this one order so I figured it was worth it.

Yes, it is awful. It used to be comparable to prices that you would find through other travel sources but now almost everything I find through the portal is inflated and so even the 1.25 isn't a good value. I have often found I am better off booking something from another source and then just cashing out the URs.

Chase is getting greedy. It’s sad. I got a survey for the United Club card and wow, if they raise that fee to the implied $675 from $525 I will close it. Their clubs are very inconsistent.

We are flying CLE to London via Virgin Upper Class booked through Flying Blue. 182K Miles (we transferred during a bonus period) and $419 total for 2. We could have booked a cheap positioning flight from CLE to JKF and it would have been fewer miles, but we don't want to deal with collecting our luggage and going through security again.

I checked WDW Swan for next Feb - March to compare what I got last year and it was the same cost. I also checked another couple of places that I had also booked last year and again, similar cost.

Later I will look at some local areas that I have booked and see how they compare. It may be a question of supply and demand or popularity of the properties being looked at, because Marriott seems to always run high wherever and I have been booking Marriott properties through the portal. Hyatt I book through Hyatt by transferring UR's as I get a better price. The price is double through Chase in terms of points. I've found an occasional IHG that's cheaper through the portal, but not often.

Wow. That's a great redemption!

I know I saw a few DP of support URs posting late or taking awhile. Just wanted to add my experience. Referred from DH to myself on 8/6, pts posted on DH's account yesterday, 8/24. Not even 3 weeks... that's the fastest ever of my experiences.
I have a weird DP. I supported DH from my CIU for his CIU. Never saw any support points pending, checked all 3 of my Ink cards just in case I mistakenly referred from a different card. DHs CIU just posted 118,000 URs which coincidentally is the bonus amount of 75k points (plus spend) plus 40k support bonus points. So Chase gave him the support bonus for his supported card. It's fine since we pool points but if that support came from someone other than a family member I would not be happy.

P2 used CSP to book a hotel and we received the credit. A little while later we discovered that place was not going to work as our plans had changed.
P2 cancelled the hotel and was refunded but the $50 credit still shows.
Will they claw back the credit? If so it is not a problem as we have the need to book another room.

The other thing is the reservation is still showing up on the Travel Portal so not sure if this has actually been cancelled even though our $$ were refunded.

Anyone have any similar experiences?

This is so wild and I’m glad you shared. I think the same thing happened to me and DH. I posted a couple of weeks ago about my DH missing support points, and being in contact with Chase about them. However, coincidentally I also received an additional 40k points to MY account. I don’t share my link online or with anyone other than my family so I had no explanation for the 40k points showing up randomly in my account, other than it coincided with the missing support points on DHs account. Your experience lines up with mine, but that seems incredibly odd that the support points would go to the approved persons account. Unless because we’re spouses they assume 🤷🏼‍♀️ we’re pooling. I agree I would be incredibly irritated if this wasn’t my husband. I did message Chase last week again about DHs missing support points, and still no reply. I have no clue what happened. I figured it was a random bank error, but perhaps not.

Wonder what the effect will be on those pesky year-end 1099's
