I need some math help please!

I am looking at an IHG property for 2 nights at 78,000 points per night (i know.... i know... it's in Seaside OR in June so I'm sure that's their peak season. It's for the Scooter Cannonball that my husband has decided he needs to do).

I don't have anywhere NEAR that many IGH points (I have about 17K).

I just saw there is currently a Chase>IHG 80% transfer bonus through the end of July.

How do I figure out how many Chase URs to transfer?

Total Needed Points: 156,000
Points I currently have: 17,254
Points needed: 138,746
Replying to myself:

If 80% transfer bonus means what I think it does, and I transfer:

78K Chase URs which equals 78K IHG points
and then the bonus at 80% results in an additional 60.8K IHG points

I would have enough (138,800)

I'm not sure whether I correctly understand the transfer bonus, though. Can anyone confirm (or deny)?

Since it normally transfers 1:1 and you are getting an 80% boost, you are transfering 1:1.8. So divide the needed points by 1.8
139000/1.8= 77,222. So your math is correct.

However, That is a lot of points. And if you have their card and stay 3 nights, the fourth is free, so that's something to consider. Also, you can routinely buy points for .005 per point, which would make the cost of one night at 78k $390/night. It's really up to you how you want to spend your URs, but typically transferring to IHG is a poor value, since IHG points are only worth .005 and UR are worth anywhere from .01 to .015.

Thank you!

It IS a lot of points but our goal is to minimize cash outlay as much as possible on this adventure, and this would help us not spend $850 out of pocket.

And we only want the two nights as it's really just to rest up and prepare for the (semi) cross-country scooter ride, so the 4th night free would not be in play for this particular trip.

Scooter Cannonball sent me down a rabbit hole as I'd never heard of it!

Are you going to ride along on the scooter with your player 2 or will you be driving a support vehicle for him?

It looks like a great road trip adventure and I hope you both enjoy it.

Sounds crazy, doesn't it?

Originally we (for a very brief moment) thought about both participating, but that would mean buying TWO new scooters (mine is a 650 so not eligible) so we decided that he would ride (yes he had to buy a scooter because he didn't have one at all) and I will be his support vehicle.

We will be trailering it up to Seaside and home from South Padre Island. I get to carry spare tires, belts, water... all the fun stuff. Should be quite an adventure!

this hotel is not on the beach but on a river a few blocks from the beach. it is right in the downtown area. looks like chase will have it at slightly less UR's but they are a couple of weeks from opening that date up for booking, currently at june 13.

Chase somehow shipped our new card to our old address, even though we have had like 10 cards since moving years ago. I hope the new new one comes before our couch gets delivered, I was banking on that for the spend!
Chase has some very interesting issues with personal info. Every month I get a paper letter stating their email bounced back. Every month it lists my correct email address and every month it says it happened for a different card. I've never changed my email address. Have still not figured out what is going on.

This happens to me with Chase but only on my SW Biz card (Performance)

That happens to me too.

Apparently it's a known issue with biz cards. Happens to me on and off.

Thanks for checking that!

On the IHG website it said something like "only 2 rooms left" (the last time I looked, even their site didn't have those dates open yet), so I figured I'd better grab it while I could. My husband would prefer to be at that one (the 'official starting' hotel) so I didn't want to wait any longer.

Now if they'd only publish the ENDING official hotel I'd be a lot happier!

I get this too on one of my biz cards. But like @CyndiLouWho pointed out, it's not every month. I just rip them up now.

My Aspire AF hit yesterday. I am planning on cancelling. Is it possible to use the quarterly airline credit and then cancel after the credit hits? Payment is due 8/14.

That was also happening to me and I tried to fix it by just deleting and updating in my profile. Still kept happening but haven't had the issue recently.

Looks like an Aspire card is somewhere in my future.

Just finished booking my Hilton FNC for 1st week in August at the beach. It would have expired shortly after that.

Still have my small stash of points from the Surpass, and $200 worth of gift cards, but didn't feel like using any of the points yet.

I've got the upgrade offer but the time is not right.

So, I'll keep the Surpass until after my beach visit, pay the annual fee and then possibly cancel within the 30 days.

Later this year up to early 2025 I'll start watching for Aspire offers. Right now it is 175k on my account incognito or upgrade for no points.

That should set me up for a decent amount of points plus the FNC if I time it to receive by April I should be able to do a 4 night trip in summer at the beach. The rooms go for about $800 a night in July. So a $550 fee is well worth it for a year or maybe even a 2nd year.

Yes, it's possible. You can get a full refund if you cancel within 30 days of the AF. The resort credit also reset in July if you have a use for it.

If you value the FNC, you may want to consider downgrading instead. By the time you get the FNC, you won't be able to cancel for a refund, but you can downgrade for a prorated refund. You can downgrade to the no AF or Surpass, preferably a card you've had before. It'll count as having had the card for the purposes of future bonuses, but with the NLL links these days, it may matter less than before.

Does anyone know the transfer value between Hilton points and Amex membership rewards points of the top of their head?

edit: It's 1:2. Busy checking all options for increasing my point total. I have an MR card that i haven't set up a partnership for as of yet so it wouldn't tell me.

I need some help. I'm thinking of doing a Japan trip next year sometime October-November time frame. Just me and DH. I would like to do at least business class. I have over 1M amex points. What are my options for flights?

I booked the flights for ds and I to and from Japan using a combo of AC and BA. We are flying there on a combo of AC (to Copenhagen) to Singapore (3 nights) on Singapore Air, then on to Tokyo (used a stopover with AC for 5k points), each leg in biz class. Coming home I used AC to book ANA first class (me) and BA (ds) to book ds on Japan Air first class.

I booked the HH Shibuya for 3 nights for 66k (total) Hyatt points, which seems like a steal for the location and rooms (with washer/dryer combo). In Osaka we are staying at the Conrad for 4 nights (1 room HH points, 1 night cash using a stay 4, pay for 3 rate). You are spoiled with choices for hotels on points in Japan!

back from lisbon - Barcelona trip. Booked United using URs and TAP cash between LIS-BCN.
Highly recommend trip to Caiscais and Obidos in Portugal. Poor experience thru get your guide to Fatima.

Uber and Bolt were very inexpensive in Portugal.

New Ink was here when I got home. My csr travel credit will pay for transportation in Portugal/Spain!

got an amex biz offer too, but 15k spend in 3 months. not sure that's possible right now since I have Ink spend to meet

also got an email re amex offer being used. forgot about it, 5x points for AMA. Just did final payment for river cruise. the extras alone helped justify the af. this next statement my new af hits, hope for retention otherwise I'll downgrade to something just to keep mrs alive.
