I just had a flooded laundry room (second floor). I cleaned the lint trap on my LG front loader and didn't put it back in tight enough. The water went into the hall, guest bedroom and through the garage ceiling. Could have been way worse but now I'm missing baseboards, carpet padding, and drywall in the garage. This is either the third or fourth time it's leaked (each time for a completely different reason). If I ever buy another two story house, I really hope the washer is on the main floor.
For all these stories of water etc- go on amazon - they sell these little puck sized warning sensors- mine are just basic- if water touches them they alarm until you remove the water- last time our main sewer line backed up this saved me from a lot of hard work cleaning up, it caught it right away!

Our alarm system has those as well. We got one for free when we added an outdoor camera.

Switched my Chicago hotel reservation to Chicago Athletic Association. DS and I are walkers, so I figure that location puts us walkable to Michigan Avenue on Saturday before the game and to Soldier Field on Sunday. Now I just need to book tickets on SW using points/flight credits.
You'll love that location. The views are amazing and has a cool old vibe.

Thanks, all great ideas! I'll see what I can find still available as far as award bookings for flights. Would also like to take advantage of still having Globalist during that time. Unfortunately, the Paris and Costa Rica properties are no longer available, but I just saw Amsterdam is available and I'll look at some others.
So ended up booking two weeks in Portugal for early January!

Getting there via CDG. There was an option to have an hour and half layover at CDG before going to Lisbon and another for a 5 hr layover. Decided 1.5 hrs was too tight for CDG, it's such a massive airport

Heads up: DoC is reporting that INK referrals are going down to 20k (from 40k) as of Sept 3.

This makes me anxious to get another INK before this change takes place, but I've kind of been holding off with all the recent denials. It looks like the CIC would work best for us right now, as you have 6 mos to meet spend (and we don't have any big expenses coming up in the summer, so we'd need the extra time). I'm at 3/24 right now. I've been saving a slot for a Barclays AA card, hoping an elevated offer comes along on that soon, as we desperately need some AA miles, and I'm due for a Sapphire around March 2025, so I've been saving a slot for that (as I only have one card that'll drop off before then). Decisions, decisions.
Last INK I applied for I was denied. So, I went and cancelled a few cards and lowered credit limit on a few. I received a mailer from Chase for CIU $1200 Cash Back (Assuming these are UR's) with $6000 spend in 3 months. Holding out until the end of June to apply - so it will cover our cruise in September.

The elevated SW Cards look nice too. Could get DH one - he is at 3/24 currently. Told DD this would be a good one for her to get too.

DS was finally approved for a AMEX Delta Plat card. He kept getting the pop up - finally was approved. 80,000 points with $3000 spend in 6 months.

Need to time all the cards just right and figure out my next few steps with spend coming up. Biggest one is $16,000 for Europe Tour next May. That is not due til February so have some time. Will most likely open a new card for DH and I. Both DD and DS are paying their own ($4000 each), so they might as well get new cards as well.

Also have another cruise to pay off ($1800) and upgrade some unused Disney Tickets to Annual Passes ($1500). Hoping some good offers come up later this year.

For Amex I know you could only have 5 credit cards. Is that still the case? Thinking I'd like to get an Aspire. DH and I both currently have 5. If I close one how soon after can I apply for a new card? Provided I'm not in pop up jail of course...

So we decided to plan a last minute trip to Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya AI this month to use up expiring FNC. Question about all-inclusives- if we get there at like noon but check in isn't until 3pm will they let us use the facilities and eat in the restaurants when we get there, or not till after check in?

I am catching up on the last month here so I am very behind, but I am sorry to hear about your cat's health. I completely understand how hard this is. We had to put our 12 year old cat down last week and it was so hard on our whole family. The vet said there was nothing more they could do for her and she was just suffering with every breath so we made the hardest decision. Our cats are such an important part of our lives. It is hard to come home each day and have a piece of our heart missing. Our other two cats seem like they are looking for her all the time. I let them say goodbye to her, but I don't know if they understood. It's just been so awful.
Thank you for this. I appreciate your kind words. I wasn't going to post further about him here and make others sad, but tomorrow is his over the rainbow bridge day. He's declined over the past few days and I just cannot let him suffer. It's SO hard, but I know that I was put on this earth to look out for him and to make sure that his quality of life is as it should be. I have to remind my family that we cannot be selfish... and it's not fallen on deaf ears, but they keep seeing glimpses of him being his old self and it gives them hope. Just this morning we let him outside and he killed and ate a baby frog and a baby lizard. But that's just not enough. Inside he is lethargic and his eyes look terribly sad. We know that it's time. We're also leaving on Tuesday for a three week European vacation and I didn't want to burden our pet sitter with monitoring him and giving him his meds so... here we are. As sad as can be and feeling like the weight of the world is on my shoulders.

I am truly sorry for your loss and for the other cats loss too. I know that the hole in all of our hearts will mend with time... in the meanwhile let's collectively keep our heads above the water and just.keep.swimming. <3

I'm in the midst of planning 2025 travel. Going to Germany/Austria in summer, and planning on doing Singapore/Cambodia/Vietnam later in the year.

Can anyone recommend places to stay in either Fussen, Germany, or Hallstatt, Austria? In Munich and Salzburg we'll be using IHG points, but Fussen and Hallstatt will need to be cash, as there are no IHG or Hyatt properties.

Also, any recommendations of places to stay in Singapore/Siem Reap/Ho Chi Minh? For Singapore, we were looking at IHG properties (there's a LOT!) and thought HI Exp Clarke Quay looks nice and in an area we like. Or there's many other options with IHG, or even the Andaz Singapore. Tbh, there's TOO many options for Singapore, lol. In Ho Chi Minh, it's either the InterContinental Saigon or Park Hyatt Saigon. And for Siem Reap - Park Hyatt. If you've stayed at any of the above, please share your experience, or any other recommendations would be appreciated as well, especially for any food/restaurants you enjoyed! We're in the very early planning stages, but I need to make sure I have all the points together for flights/hotels. We plan to fly there/back on Singapore Airways nonstop from NYC, 19 hour flight! I thought nonstop 14hr Japan flights were bad, but this is next level!
Fussen/Schwangu... we stayed here in 2016. Might want to check on recent reviews, etc. since it's been a minute. Lovely area with a view of the castle. There was a biergarten right down the street and an Umpa band started playing shortly after we started eating (really good sausage and kraut and beer). I swear it was like a scene out of the movie "European vacation" with Chevy Chase.. people swaying and raising their steins and singing . It was AMAZING. Report back if you stay here!! I wouldn't mind going to Germany again!!

I also have hotel recommendations for Stuttgart and Sindelfigen if you're interested.

I was going to buy a Ring water sensor since I have a Ring alarm.

Still 5 unless you’re one of the few who can get 6. It can take 30+ days for the canceled card to drop off for automatic approvals, but you can call to get the app pushed through.

If your able, include the other pets. I got permission from the vet, it's not that common though I know someone whose vet had them bring the other pets and I've read about it. It helps them understand and grieve. Taking Tux along was helpful for everyone. You could tell her understood and it kept him from looking for Dude which helped us grieve.

So sorry, it's such a difficult thing to do but I agree thar you know and can see it in their eyes. He got one last great hunt 🙂

I second this. We lost our dear Luna to heart cancer two weeks ago today. I'm glad her brother, Apollo, was able to know what happened to her and so he won't be looking for her to return.

I wish I had known to do this so my other two cats could have closure. I feel so bad for them because I just don’t think they understand where Callie went. Willie Nelson is 18 years old now and has been in our family since he was a tiny kitten. We had Callie for 9 years, but she was 12 years old. Then we have Zoey, who is only about 5 years old. I just know they are worried and they both keep talking to me constantly, which makes me wonder if they are asking where Callie is. It truly is devastating to lose our pets. I don’t know how I will handle it when it’s Nelson’s time to go. He’s the same age as my daughter.

A coworker of mine put it well for me recently: "a dog or cat will give you some of the best days of your life, but also one of the very worst days."
Yes, it's devastating. I wish they all would live a lot longer! We have to hold on to the happy memories and the love we gave them and they gave us

I didn't know there was a limit with AMEX. I actually have 6 and they are still sending me promo for other cards to open up.
