Chatted to close a biz plat. Was offered 35k MR for $5000 spend. Thought I'd get the 40k for $10k spend that people have been getting. Still not worth it to me though, so closed it. If the offer was on a personal plat maybe I'd think about it.

This is a biz plat that had waived AF 2 years ago (think it was a glitch) and then got a retention covering the AF no spend (a little over 13 months ago). So I've got my value out of it lol.
I got that same Biz Plat...waiting for Feb to use my last $10 wireless credit then I'm going to close it. Got the same retention offer as you last time too, I've definitely gotten my value out of it!

But I've gotten amazing upgrades as a diamond
I had Diamond the same way and never got an upgrade. Ever. I finally downgraded it and am thinking of canceling altogether. The luck is with you! 🍀
My personal preference is the slatted blinds though because the cellalar ones are an all or nothing kind of deal
We have cellular with the top down/bottom up. I can lower the top down a few inches and get plenty of light and a sky view while not seeing the neighbors. The cellular that raise only from the bottom are closed almost all the time.

We have these behind our couch (we don’t have anything in our front windows) and we have the top down all the time (except when the sun is blinding). They allow is to keep the sun off the back of the sofa and still have the shade open

DH doesn't like cellular apparently. He says they're just paper. I went to look in a store today and everything is very pricy. And the colors are so neutral! I mean why is everything gray or beige? I really have to think about this.

They probably aren't if you look online. They may not/probably don't carry all options in store.

Ours came from JC Penney several years ago. They were not cheap, but they are not paper at all.

We have wooden shutters in the front (where we get the most sun/heat), and wood blinds in the back and the side. I like being able to see outside without completely pulling them up. This also gives us more privacy since I can angle them up or down. I have one big Hunter Douglas Silhouette blind over our french doors that I like a lot more than the typical cellular blinds. It's fabric, not paper-feeling, and it tilts so we can see through it somewhat without pulling it all the way up.

When you say you don't have any window treatments, do you also mean you don't have curtains? That would be my first choice because they completely warm up a space. If your space is eclectic (and even if it's not), I find that you have to get curtains in your home and try it to see if it will work. There have been many times I was sure I loved a curtain and then it was terrible in the space. Conversely, really simple curtains made a huge difference.

Also think about your spaces. Are you needing room darkening/blackout curtains? Heavy curtains to help keep the heat/air in? Do you prefer to keep it light and airy?

You might also consider IKEA for blinds and shades- you could try one room or so and see what you think. Not as high end, of course, but might be a good first buy. Plus if you're self-installing, it can be a lot to try to do the whole house!

ETA: Also I like my curtains to go all the way to the top of the ceiling, so mine are the 95/96" curtains.

I have curtains upstairs in the bedrooms but my downstairs windows are literally bare! I recently remodeled and can't figure out what I want.

For everyone who likes to buy Disney gift cards but doesn't check the gift card thread, nice cashback today at RMN for shopDisney and Best Buy. Use those Chase offers on both if your lucky enough to have them!
Thank you. I had the Shop Disney offer on 3 cards, but only used it on 2 (I have a substantial amount of $$ sitting on DGCs that I'm unsure how to use -- in the past have put towards ABDs but don't foresee any travel with them in the next several yrs; perhaps a solo trip to Disneyland is in my future...)

We have Hunter Douglas sheer shades on all of our windows; the ones on the over-the-sink and eating area windows in the kitchen are smart shades and I love love love them. When we moved in there were California wood shutters on the kitchen windows, but I'm not a fan because they block out a significant amount of light. All of the windows, with the exception of the ones in the kitchen, also have custom made drapes. My advice would be to get window coverings that are neutral because you want to love them for a long time (we bought the house almost 18 years ago and all of the drapes, with the exception of the ones in dd's room which were replaced a few yrs ago, have been here since shortly after we moved in; luckily I still like most of them).

Update on my refund with AA (for economy class seat on a paid biz class fare); called AA this week when no refund had posted to my cc after 8 days (was told it would automatically be refunded). After speaking to a clueless CSR he transferred me to the Executive Platinum department (dh is EP; I have no status). The kind CSR in this department filed a case to get the difference in fares back; she gave me a case number and said the amount could take up to 5 days to be refunded to my cc). When I check the case number online is says the number isn't recognized; I'm dreading calling again, so I'll wait 5 biz days and hope that the credit posts.

I've been doing some trial runs on flight possibilities back from Bangkok next year and have found a few good options in biz and first class that seem to have decent availability; hopefully the options will continue to show up when the window to book opens in several weeks.

Super excited to see some of the Tokyo Disney 40th merch, new character costumes, and other fun things they have planned, like a new parade and fireworks show. I totally forgot that is going to be going on while we’re there! I hope there’s a cool Duffy themed souvenir with 40th swag. I am definitely going over budget on this trip 🤣
when does it end do you know?

I find this stuff infuriating. We had to jump through hoops to get a refund that they legally owed us because they put us in cheaper seats. I really despise AA these days and we used to fly them all the time without issues.

noticed a few of you paying taxes thru paypal (municipal) so there's no cc fee and it charges to your cc.

any special tricks to know? I'd love to use my amex so i hit the 15k for a Hilton FNC!

thanks

Back on the blinds discussion, one thing I like about faux wood is you can actually soak them in the bath tub to clean them. The ones over my kitchen sink were super gross and after an hour in the tub with some dawn they looked brand new.

Not sure if anyone else here has access to a Bilt card, but I heard today that point.me is free through the Bilt app so we tried it and it worked. If you have a Bilt card you might want to check this out since you don't have to pay the monthly fee to search for J/F flights this way.

You can also get the access without the Bilt card by just joining the Bilt rewards program and downloading the app.
