Time for me to put my 'want' out there.

I have an upcoming $4K bill, and possibly a $2K bill.

Latest cards:

July 2022 - Disney premier fee card $49 fee $300sub, $100 referral and enough points earned to cover fee
and now downgraded to no annual fee Disney card resulted in $400 in value for $1k spend

Mid December 2022 - FNBO Amtrak to save my points with a no fee card on auto pilot - personal card

March 2023 - CIU Biz

June 28, 2023 - IHG Biz 165K offer - spend complete

July 19, 2023 - HHonors Surpass - DOC offer - personal card - spend complete

I now have 5 AMEX CC's. At 3/24. Will probably try an MR card after Xmas.

Will I be safe to app another CIU or CIC? Probably CIU to get the 1 and 1/2 since I won't have to buy gift cards.

Mostly I don't want the spend to go to waste.
You should be fine applying for the CIU since it’s been 5 months since your last one

Thanks. We don’t really churn so he’s definitely under 5/24. I am fairly certain it was more than 48 months since receiving bonus but will double check.

He is an AU on my CSP. But that shouldn’t matter - right?

(I know the general consensus here about not doing AUs. But since we don’t really churn or chase SUBs I did recently get him an AU card for my CSP because of an international trip. I wanted to keep all our spending on one account.)
His being an AU will not matter

Thank you. One more question for now. I looked at his credit report and there are several closed Chase cards listed. Some are 4+ years since opening. A few are more recent. I am pretty sure the CSP is one of the older cards. I did have a list written somewhere - have to see if I can find it.

If I can't find my written records, is there any harm in sending an SM to see when the CSP was opened/closed? I wouldn't specifically ask about when the bonus was last earned.

For those that are Costco junkies... I just got my first membership! (Thanks Groupon) We've always been Sam's Club members, just because I always get it almost free (through Groupon or other saving methods), and I can never argue with free, lol. But we've heard SOOO many positive things about Costco, so we finally bit the bullet when I saw that nice Groupon deal come along.

I'd love to know about travel hacks through them... I feel like you guys have talked about cruises, or rental cars, saving through Costco? and maybe even things like car insurance? Please inform me of what I don't know! :scratchin

I like Costco for Disney cruises since I haven't found any other TA that gives OBC or cashback. They give about 8% back as Costco GC. Other cruise lines we've been on, I've found better deals using Cruise Compete.

You're out of 1/30 from the IHG biz, so it's probably okay. Then if your next Chase card after this one is in January, you'll average out to 3 months.

Got that random silver status that dl awarded a few months back. This is the only trip it'll cover. Was 5th on the list for 1st with two pairs in front but gave up when they called c+. Boarding was almost done and they came and asked if I wanted to move. I'd forgotten how little leg room there really is in a bulkhead but it was still good. My knees are happy to straighten out and stand though 🙂

I don’t think there is any harm…but Chase will not approve him if he’s not eligible for the bonus so you could try applying and see what happens

Thanks to both of you! I find it easy to look at other people's stuff but suddenly feared rejection on my own end.

Will probably app on Monday after I've looked closely at a few other items. That will give me 3 weeks to get the card. First 4k spent by end of August and next 2K by end of September, unless something else pops up by then.

It’s 48 months from when he received the bonus, not opening the card so if he got the bonus at least 48 months ago you can support him for a new one…as long as he’s under 5/24 and does not have any sapphire card.
How long do you have to have been without a sapphire card? can you close one and open another a month later?

Tomorrow starts my run of travel before I start crying because I'm back to school. Up first NC, then Cancun, then Vegas. My poor cats will be so lonely, LOL.

My 18yo was supposed to have jaw surgery at the end of this month. We went today for all her pre-op stuff. Come to find out, her Ortho hasn't moved her teeth enough for them to do it! I've been struggling to get all the other appts she needs in for this. I booked it like 5 mos ago too! And now I have NO IDEA when she'll get it done. We hit our deductible this year knowing she'd have surgery too! I'm not happy right now. And her Ortho can't see us till the 14th, when I'm in Vegas. So now instead of "free" we'll likely have to spend a ton and hit the deductible next year again. We NEVER hit it as we never really have that many bills. But this year w/ my DD in treatment, we hit it. Sigh.....I wonder is there a way to go after her ortho? I'm sure I'll get to pay $150+ for this visit too and we'll have to do another one before her surgery again. Her Ortho was upset that the surgeon was going to cancel because we couldn't get a sleep study done, but I finally found a dr who rushed to get us in. And then this happens.

They definitely needed to compensate you. Perhaps you got the large compensation because the first set of bozos should have happily given you your $70 back and didn't. Good work not giving up.
I wasn't lucky w/ Avis. They overcharged us. I tried emailing and twitter w/ no luck. Then I tried Chase for a chargeback and they refused to do it too. They said the receipt states the amount, so despite I have a confirmation with a lower rate, I'm stuck losing the $55. So I needed a "win" from some part of that trip.

I got my first referral bonus yesterday, 10k miles. Thanks to this board for reminding me. I didn't realize how easy it was to recommend cards to immediate family members. I have to make up for lost time now lol.
Yes, I love when I look and see I have a random bonus. Those are the best!

So I see TSwift is adding US/Canada dates for 2024. We didn't attempt last time, but have decided to this time, my DS and fiance really want to go. We've all just registered for the chance next week, but I seem to recall Capital One having a presale of some sort last go 'round? Does anyone know how that worked? No clue if they'll have another, but I'm presuming since they are a big sponsor.

*EDIT: I originally wrote my "DH and fiance" 🤣 🤣 🤣
I think the world is going after these tickets. I didn't realize it was for 2024. We've all signed up for Indy so far. We'll see if anyone gets lucky. Tik Tok is reporting that the presale will be over 3 days and you'll be assigned a certain time slot. Good Luck!

Add me to the eclipse "trip" list. It's not much of a trip for us though because we are not far from Indy. I booked one night at the Conrad on points about 6 weeks ago. Somehow, they had not jacked up their rates yet so I got very lucky. We saw the last eclipse and it was amazing. We are close enough we could have done a day trip. However, last time I did that and it took us about 6 hrs to make what is normally a 2 hr drive home. It was an absolute nightmare traffic situation and we had 5 kids in the van. We will stay the night this time.
Some maps say we should be in the area to catch it. But I think heading south to Toledo is better. But I've heard the horror stories of traffic. It's less than an hour normally, so I would hope it wouldn't be THAT much worse.

Regular tsa is not fun! And I’m flying out of a not big airport. Dreading coming back through fll without precheck.
I HATE peasant TSA as I call it. Honestly I hate the new cresent roll scanners DTW has. The North terminal they constantly get stuck. I also hate every person all over SM is telling everyone how to get TSA precheck and lounge access and now TSA precheck is 30 people deep when I flew Delta last month. GATE KEEP PEOPLE! I think groups like this are fine....but sharing to the masses is ruining it :(

Rental cars are always the cheapest through them! I honestly strictly have my costco membership for gas, wine, muffins and car rentals. Though I'll probably add starbucks egg bites to that list, LOL.

I did my first credit card points thing, the IHG card. I paid $99 and I got enough points to cancel out my $1059 reservation next Feb.

Now I need points to fly on American Airlines to Rome next April. It looks like we have several options for our timeframe from about 51-55k points. I saw the citi aa card gives 50, should I just do that? Or would you all recommend a different card? Ty!!

Look at Citi or Barclay.

I signed up for Indy and Miami (just bc Miami seems like not many are signing up for that one as opposed to Indy and Toronto 😳).

I actually went on Costco website and repriced our car rental for Yellowstone next May, and it was $35 cheaper than what I’d booked so I did it through them! I’ll check back again as time goes on and see if the prices come down further too! Happy about that… that savings almost covers my membership. I’m sure once I find out what these Starbucks egg bites are too, I may be hooked, lol.

I’ve also heard really good things about their alcohol selection. I’ve tried some really good whiskies at friends houses from Costco, and just had their Kirkland brand gin which wasn’t bad at all to mix either. I can’t wait to go to the club for the first time tomorrow 🙃

can someone explain product changing...what is benefit over closing. do I need to call? Why do I tell them I want to do this?
You keep the same credit line and the age of your card on your credit report. You can also get some of these Freedom card that give you opportunities to earn points on quarterly spend without having to waste one of your 5/24 slots. If you are approved for X $ but need more credit on the new card you can transfer some of your credit limit to the new card to increase it.

With all of this Costco talk, I priced a few things today. DH and I take 3 kind of vitamins and they are all considerably cheaper through costco than either Amazon or Walmart where I usually get them. I've also heard they have great prices on glasses. I've never used them for that, but just throwing it out there in case it would be helpful for anyone.
