Well, I got my new CIU today and the MSR will be completed and then some by tomorrow. Great being able to pay insurance and legal fees by credit card.

OTOH, it's crazy how much organic spend we are going through! I finished MSR on 4 new CC's in 2 months!

And I know I have at least $1000 in spend I MUST make before 5/1/2023. It was planning to use this new card for these expenses, but the new insurance and legal fees happened unexpectedly. I need a new CC!!!

I am visiting my DD tomorrow... I'm tempted to have her apply for a CIC or CIU... or perhaps a personal Chase card? Any suggestions? She has excellent credit. She piggy back off our credit for years, then opened her own Discover card in college which is what she uses to this day. She does want a different card than Discover because she can't use it for everything. She has a mortgage.

She pays off her card every month. Probably spends about $500-$1000 on it monthly organically as she puts everything on it.

The Discover is the only card she applied for on her own. She is a AU on a number of our cards - CO, Discover and Biz Chase cards.

I would like to help her start stockpiling her own reward points and would probably help her meet her MSR quickly.

Any suggestions on which card she should apply for would be welcome.

TIA.
Cards I have suggested my DD to get were Freedom Unlimited then and Ink and the CSP in the Chase universe. As for Amex, I think only the Green so far.

Delta prices seem to have come down, at least for awards. Booked a trip ATW-MCO for 41k for October, go to select seats and in order to have a non middle anywhere other than the last five rows I have to pay $100 for "preferred" seats. Upfareing to C+ was only 10k more so I did that. I don't mind charging for actual "preferred" seats, but when your "preferred" seats out number your "standard" seats, they aren't really preferred.

Hilton....Hilton! Anyone else get nonstop offers for the $149 timeshare presentation deal? I get them steadily for a year+ now....and I'd LOVE some more Hilton points... but I don't have a spouse to attend with me (even tho married) so I can't take advantage of any of these deals! That's just my sad little story for today..... I got an email today with a full refund of the $149, 3 free nights deal too! I wish they'd let me go by myself (and say no lol) to use these offers...:charac2:

I've attended the presentations by myself almost every time. I just indicate to the agent that my partner is a friend (we're not married), so they don't require them to go. I have another coming up in November for 100k points plus 4 days in Orlando. They are a really good deal!

I've been looking to buy a power adapter for travel and when reading the comments a lot of them say they do not work for anything that heats up like a hair straightener or dryer. They only work for phones and electronics. Can anyone recommend a good adapter that works for everything or is that not a thing?

ohhhh from every small print I've read it says if married your spouse must attend...(?)

Same situation. i have been been tempted say I'm divorced, as I am usually in Orlando solo.

I've been looking to buy a power adapter for Ireland travel and when reading the comments a lot of them say they do not work for anything that heats up like a hair straightener or dryer. You're looking for something that steps down the voltage but will handle the current. It's going to be expensive as it's probably going to need to have industrial grade components. You might be better off buying a cheap hair dryer when you're there if you're really going to need it and your accommodations aren't going to provide.

Called AmEx this morning and received a retention offer of $300.00 statement credit or 30k MRs if I spend $3k in 3 months. I took the statement credit! Thanks @wanderlust7 -- looks like 365 + 31 days is the trick.
I called when my annual fee posted and she said there wasn't an offer available but that I could try back. She said I had until April 17 to cancel the card for a refund of the fee. So I should call again on April 17 or is it alright to call/chat beforehand? Is that what you mean by the 365 + 31 days- the end of the billing cycle the fee posted in?

You might look into a dual voltage version for whichever you want to take. I got a dual voltage flat iron before I went to Paris in 2018 and it worked fine there and here. It's my travel one. I've heard bad stories about hair appliances and converter/adapters. I use whatever dryer is at the hotel. This also keeps me from taking my expensive dryer and flat iron with me.

Probably true, but I have never had someone check or ask any follow up questions. In order to get a free 2 bedroom upgrade at Orange Lake Resort I mentioned my parents coming in. Sadly, their plane flight was delayed and they weren't able to make it :)

Like others have recommended, I bought a hair dryer designed for international travel. This is the one I got: Conair Travel Hair Dryer, 1875W Worldwide Travel Hair Dryer with Smart Voltage Technology and Folding Handle https://a.co/d/fIFKy9F

Ugh. Really hating Wells Fargo right now. Opened a savings account for the bonus, have to deposit $25,000 within 30 days. I have my checking account at another bank linked to my WF credit card, but in order to link it to the savings account I had to delete that account and re-add it to the WF account. OK, whatever. Then when I looked at transfers, I see a limit of $6000 per month. So I guess once I have the money together (currently tied up in another bank bonus) I will have to get a cashier's check to walk over to WF branch.

Agree with this! DD lived in the UK for 6 months, and dh visits his brother in Germany. They each have dual voltage travel dryers. Much easier and safer than using an adapter for that.

I, too, am not a fan of WF. Simple actions that I do routinely with other banks are more complicated with WF.

No, this is about how you can't get a retention if your last one was within 13 months ago and how that's calculated (calendar months vs a date calculation).

You can try again, everyday if you wanted to lol, until the last day to cancel. I tend to do a last try a day or 2 before, only because I'm paranoid I'll forget.

OK, you all are so knowledgeable - I have a Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, have had for almost 5 years, will get my free night June 1st. Can I cancel then and reapply within the same month? Or do I need to wait longer? Marriott points are what I use the most, I could use a referral from DH's card, but wasn't sure about the timing. If I need to wait past 30 days I could, but have a major spend coming by July 1.

With Chase, you need to wait 30 days after you cancel for the card to clear the system. If you have/had other Marriott cards, should double check an application rules chart too. I like this one: Link

I finally got burned again by Verizon gift cards. A few years ago, I ordered some and they were empty. I have ordered many, almost monthly for the last year or so, no issues. Today I went to use one and it's only got a 7 digit pin. It needs to be 6 or 8 digits. I tried adding every possible number to the beginning and end of the PIN, and nada.

For anyone looking at the Chase IHG MC with 175K Bonus, DOC says it will expire on April 5th.
