If it's still showing due today I'd pay it and then request the refund as soon as it shows negative. The AF refund takes a couple days for it to process and it will be backdated to the AF charge date, if you cancelled within the cancellation window. They give themselves a few billing cycles to give the refund but IME it's been just a few days. However, if it's not a few days, I don't want the hassle of having a non-payment, or interest, or fees to get worked out on top.

If you request a refund of a negative balance (or transfer to another card) it gets processed in a couple days as well, so minor inconvenience for piece of mind, in my book.
I just checked... my balance was around $8 just as it should be. Thank you for your advice.

I’m headed to Germany for 5 weeks leaving early April to visit our daughter and family. Grandson #2 is due to make his appearance on April 13. I invited a friend to come visit the end of April. She would love to visit Paris and I’m trying to plan a quick one night trip with her leaving from Paris back to Houston. We’ll take the train from my daughters house on Monday April 24 arriving before 10am at Gar de est in Paris. Only Hyatt hotel option since this is last minute is for the Hyatt Madeleine for 25,000 points but it’s only one queen bed. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don’t have Marriott’s or Hiltons points. I even considered the airport location but they are no longer a Hyatt hotel after April 1st. Paris hotels are expensive!😫

What point currencies do you have?
What about booking one night through the Chase portal?
Thoughts on an AirBNB? We've had success with AirBNB in Paris.

So now all airlines are offering waivers for BOS. But Aer Lingus is not! So I guess we have to hope we can get to BOS tomorrow. I swear the freaking anxiety! UGH.....

If the JB flight cancels, will the trip cancellation from my CSP cover our Ireland expenses if the Aer Lingus flight doesn't cancel? I'm getting told no on FB.
I have nothing helpful to offer, but I cannot imagine the anxiety you’re dealing with! I had a simple trip for 6 (us and adult kids and wife/gf) to WDW that got canceled due to the hurricane in Nov and it was awful in the days leading up and then ultimately canceling/rescheduling.

I really hope you’re all good, but I know it’ll be a crappy 24 hours until you are DUB bound.

DP. I had the AMEX Delta Gold Biz. Last year they offered me $250 to upgrade to Delta Plat Biz. I took the offer ( I realize that I should not have done that and waited and applied for this card). Anyway... I chatted with them to downgrade back to a Delta Gold Biz Card today, since it has been a year and the annual fee was due.

They offered my 30,000 Delta points to keep it open as a Delta Plat Biz card. I took that offer!!

New Question!

I am booking a hotel for three of my employees for an upcoming work trip.

It's my work credit card.. is there any advantage to my being logged into my Marriott account when I book them? I'm not going to get points for the since I'm not the one in the room, correct?

I'm not sure with Marriott, but I think it's worth a try. I know Hilton and Hyatt have done it in the past, for one room. If they aren't going to give you and benefit, there is no risk in booking while logged in right?

True! Thank you!

so my friend got canceled.... they have been on hold trying to call JB for an hour or two, trying chase travel on another line, but supposedly she could switch to a different flight after she checked in,even tho booked on UR? bc they aren't allowing that online.....this is exactly the mess I feared would happen... I wonder if she's better off booking on a different airline

You might be able to get the free night cert extended if you call. I've see successful reports of that with Marriott. Also, did you know that you can now top off your FNC up to 15k? You can use your 35k FNC (assuming that's what you have) for something up to 50k.

If the card has an AU, you can see it online. Under the card will be a View Additional Card Members link.

Amex has the pop-up where when you go to apply for a card, it tells you that you not eligible for the bonus due to past behavior. Exactly what triggers it is a mystery. It's possible that canceling the card would contribute to it. You can get the AF refunded within 30 days after it posts.

Thanks for the info. I will call Marriott to see if they will extend the free night. I can't find any availability even up to 50k on the nights that we could stay. Some cities are showing that you can't book a free night at all even if below 50k which is very weird.

So to add to everything on my plate right now, they discharged my daughter from her mental health program and have transferred her to the eating disorder program. She'll start that on 3/20 when we return. I got a vibe from the nurse that she can't believe we're still going on this trip.

Part of me just wants to throw my hands up and cancel. My daughter isn't excited AT ALL! But I feel like I'm going back on a promise I made 13 years ago. Like I want her to look back some day and have a magical memory of turning 18 in Ireland. But I wonder with her current mental state and physical state if I'm just trying to force it all. My mom also feels like this will be "good" for her. But honestly I don't know. I mean I have been on her for 3 days to pack and she still hasn't! I really feel like just giving up. Nothing like spending the day before leaving crying.....

If I cancelled at this point, my flights tomorrow (only $150) would be refunded. I would try the medical trip cancellation on all the Ireland expenses. I'm not sure what would be covered. It looks like I can cancel up to 2 hours before the AL flight takes off. I guess if the JB flight cancels, we cancel the AL flights. And we try again at a different time. And if it all falls in place, then it was meant to be, and I have to hope that once we're in Ireland she'll get excited. She doesn't remember seeing Beetlejuice a few weeks ago. She's been dying to see the show, and was so out of it, she doesn't remember it :( I don't want that with Ireland.

Ugh…no idea on the CSP coverage….but is there anyway you can switch to a flight to BOS tonight
No....there's only one flight on JB from DTW. And the cost on Delta is like $300/ea. I think after all my stress, if JB cancels, then I'll cancel the AL (it says I can online) and I'll try again I guess :(

Any cancelling is stressful. I'm currently tracking the plane. So far it's on schedule today, LOL. My BF has been trying to get out of AUS to MCO for over 24 hours now! MCO had a ground stop last night and again today. I know at this point he wants this trip over. He sent me a photo just sitting on the tarmack since he pushed the gate. They were supposed to throw him on a plane from MCO to PIT so he could finish his trip. But now once again, he won't be legal to fly it. So I hope maybe when he gets to MCO he can just fly home and I can see him tonight.....Sigh.

I saw JB has started to cancel flights for tomorrow. I just need to stalk flight aware for our flight. I'm stalking the plane we're supposed to fly tomorrow. So far it's going along all it's legs. Tomorrow will likely be the issue. It flies from PIT to BOS to DTW to BOS.

I always login to my hotel account when booking rooms for my co-workers or even my son and I have always gotten the points in my account, even with Marriott.

I have MR’s, UR’s and Cap1 miles. I’ll check with my friend to see if she has any Marriott or Hilton points Airbnb may be the way to go. Need a place to store luggage early as we arrive at 10am. I’m sure the train station has something but don’t want to go back in the evening to retrieve if I can help it.

Update... so my friend called chase and they got her flight switched after all.

For my daughter's 16th birthday, I took her to New York and we saw Phantom and the Rockettes and went shopping. My daughter was in the middle of a pretty serious mental health crisis (which I didn't know at the time was going to get much worse). I spent the night before (Thanksgiving) in tears because my daughter was such a mess and to me it felt like she hated me. I didn't know what to do. We went. It was good--not great. But I'm glad we went. I think you should go. Maybe this is what she needs and having your mom there should help. I'm sorry, I get the anxiety and the kids stuff. Raising older teens is down right scary.

Travel is incredibly stressful. This would be a time to stick to routines, especially routines with medications and sleep. Remember that long-haul flights and time changes create sleep disturbances and this will be compounded because your trip is so short. It's very hard to be overseas when you are in need of mental health care and your treatment team is so far away. Wishing your daughter the best.

Also, note that you've been open about sharing your name and identity on this board and this is delicate information. There's no shame in the mental health issues she is struggling with and I am sure you're struggling too with how to navigate all of this. Her privacy is important as well.

Luggage storage can be tough with AirBNBs. We have used City-Locker (several locations) in Paris, which worked fine. It's self-serve so you need to be prepared in advance with the door codes, etc.

But a hotel might serve you well, especially for that purpose. Yikes, nothing on Hilton that isn't crazy rates for April. I might try the bank travel portals and see what you come up with. Alternatively, you might try to wait for something close-in and see if some standard rates open up.

I too was surprised in my brief review that even a two-twin bed room was hard to come by.

You could book the Hyatt Madeleine with the queen bed, then call after booking and ask if you could have a room with 2 twins and ask for confirmation in writing if they agree.

Try the Hotel Mathis. Great boutique hotel, great location, reasonably priced. Might be available on Chase portal.

I just plunked down $40 on priority boarding with SW. Kinda pathetic LOL, I'm such a baby. I got b58 and didn't want to board that late, so I just pushed the button, and poof, money spent LOL.
Now I have a5. This is the stuff I can get away with traveling alone.
I do this all the time as well. Pay $25 for early bird and get A50ish or pay $40 and get A10. Made it so much easier once they allow you to do it ahead of time instead of at the gate.
