Some thoughts on maximizing savings on AirBNB stays and experiences:
  1. Use this link to be sure you are earning 3 Avios per $1 on AirBNB stays and experiences
  2. I have been purchasing gift cards, with a 14% savings during Kroger's 4x fuel points promotions, or 10% during Meijier's $5 reward per $50 gc. Gift cards are more flexible now that they can be applied to an existing reservation as well as new reservations
  3. I now prefer purchasing AirBNB gcs when working towards an MSR as there have been times I reserved an AirBNB and then later cancelled the AirBNB (or they cancelled) and it created potential clawback/unmet MSR issues. With a gc, the funds will just be returned to my AirBNB account in the case of cancellation. A potential con is that you wouldn't have cc protection on your AirBNB stay should a dispute arise between you and AirBNB.

Thanks but I think that only happens if you are booking a package. I used my CUR to book the Royal Pacific.

I will let you know if it works :)
CapOne doesn't care what the purchase is for, you can redeem miles for it as long as the merchant category code (MCC) falls under CapOne's travel inclusions. If you really want to find out how it codes, have your friend tell you what VISA MCC they would use for that transaction, and see how it lines up on the VISA merchant code list. Here is the LINK, starting at pg.21 you can see the different listings by category.

Here is another good (but not exhaustive) resource for all of us with travel rewards cards, broken down by card issuer:

Thanks according to the link it does not look like tickets will count as Travel.

Yes it does state "Travel Agencies" but she does not have her own merchant account.
In the past at least when booking Disney it would state "Disney Resort ***" or something similar.

I will let you know once the charge posts.

Hyatt question: DH had Globalist "Lite" until last week, so we don't have a concierge. He earned normal Globalist last week, but hasn't heard anything about getting a concierge person. Is there something we need to do?

As I stated above, we've had Globalist Lite, so no personal concierge. We made some tentative plans for 2023 and applied suite upgrade awards to both. DH noticed that with the first one the cert was taken, but it wasn't taken with the second one. He called and apparently they wrote down that we wanted it, and that it was available, but never bothered to use it to actually upgrade us. Luckily it was still available and the rep said it's now applied. Not sure I believe them anymore though.

It takes a couple of weeks for concierge assignment iirc. He'll receive an email with introductions-if nothing after 2 weeks or so then you can call Hyatt and ask but they're usually pretty good about contacting within then.

Incognito worked for me too, thanks! Don't think I'll have a chance to use it, but it's nice to be able to add it to my Aspire. :)

I see that some of the Member Week offers are on there today too. I really want the Hilton $100 get $40 on my Aspire to stack with the resort credit and use it at Hilton Tokyo Bay. Hope that one will eventually show up on there too.
Check your Amex offers today - that $40 off $100 Hilton offer finally showed up on my Aspire and on P2 NAF Hilton!

I opened both the Amex and Kabbage bank accounts last year when they had the offers and the best APY. But now discover is way higher. So I'm transferring my money out. Is there any reason to keep those accounts open? If not, once the transfers go through I'm going to close both accounts.

I have offers on both my gold and plat to add an au for mr with spend. I know you can add someone without an ssn and they'll eventually close it if you never add it but how long before they do that? It's 2k spend and I'd need to do it organically and my car ins doesn't take amex. Trying to decide if it's worth it.

They may not close it for a long time. I added DD as an AU but never entered her SSN. 3 years later, I added her as AU to another card, and had to give her SSN to be able to set up an online login for her. The old AU card (the one I never entered her SSN for) showed up on that login!

I'll have to figure out when to do it. Do either of them have an af for the au? I know the plat does if you do it as a plat but does it if you do it as a gold?

I'd rather do gold for the groceries etc.

i keep a minimal amount in every account in case it goes back up. Maybe I'm crazy but I also move when its .5% or higher. wealth front is almost 3% what is discover?

Link your Delta and Starbucks accounts to receive 500 SkyMiles and 150 SB Stars:

-150 starbuck stars & 500 skymiles for linking
-double stars on days you travel with delta
-1 skymile per $1 spent at starbucks

https://www.deltastarbucks.com/content/starbucks/en/overview.html

Skymiles posted instantly for me. Sounds like SB stars post after next SB purchase.
I can confirm. I linked mine yesterday. Skymiles posted instantly. Ordered SBUX today on the app, and 150 stars credited right after my purchase. :)

With the Plat, you can choose to get the $0AF gold AU card (it comes as a plastic gold colored card, not metal). The Amex Gold AU card will be a metal AU Gold card. Despite the confusing name of the gold Plat AU card, it does not earn 4x groceries/restaurants as the Gold AU card, which I think you realize, but I want to clarify for others reading this since it was confusing for me when I first learned of it.

P2 is applying for the Barclays AA Business card, but it is asking for a "Trading name" what does one use for that?

I just booked return flight for my trip next year (to the Maldives and Scandinavia); I'll be taking Singapore Air A380 in first class! It is a daytime flight and I plan on enjoying every waking minute!

On another note, sad time here. My mom's last sibling passed away on Monday at the age of 93 (my mom passed 10 yrs ago). He was at my cousin's house drinking a glass of wine and took his last breath (he was a DNR). I guess that's the way to go. He was otherwise healthy. I am flying to Halifax tomorrow with dd to tour Dalhousie and so that she can write her BIOI mid-term while we are there; then home on Monday. Then back to Halifax again on Wednesday morning (dynamic pricing meant changing my flight was going to cost more than flying back) for his funeral and home on Thursday. He was a great man -- Supt. in the RCMP for 35 years -- posted north of 60 in the Arctic 6 times (where he was also the Coroner for the NW and Yukon territories), worked in 7 provinces, was a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner of Oaths for the Supreme Court, Elections Canada Special Investigator, responsible for the security of QEII when she visited and the Shah of Iran and his family (for the Montreal Olympics) and was knighted twice. He really made a mark in his lifetime and he will be missed. I don't know if I will ever know a greater man -- he was truly larger than life.

That's good to know. I think both offers are good to the end of the year and I'm not sure I want to do both, though I'm sure I just need to sign up for it before the offer is gone.

@ep1229 suggested the conrad Osaka and since I can use my fnc there for a weekday I'm trying to get more mr so I can transfer. I have enough but this is a splurge over the reg Hilton Osaka that I could cover with the Hilton points I have now. Just all mental that I even have an issue with using them I think it's just cause it takes so much more Hilton for stuff than it does hyatt.

Y'all. This is so exciting. (Maybe it's old news, but it was new news to me!) For the CFF PayPal 5% this quarter . . .

In the PayPal app, go to Payments, then Bills. Search for all kinds of bills - my County property tax bill was available to be paid by PayPal! My County charges a 2% fee for credit cards, but they didn't charge the fee when I paid through PayPal. I did a small $20 test payment - sure enough, $20 was charged to my credit card, and a full $20 was taken off my remaining balance on my tax bill. This is extra exciting for the 5% on CFF this quarter, but beyond that, it means I can get credit card points even when PayPal isn't the quarterly category - I'll just pay through PayPal with my CFU to get 1.5x.

One thing I did notice, is that when paying through the "Bills" section, it says that it'll use my PayPal balance first, and then charge to my default credit card. I couldn't find a way to have it NOT use my PayPal balance, so I just transferred my entire PayPal balance to my bank account before I did my test payment. Kind of annoying, because I like having a little bit of a balance, but totally worth it!
