If you don't plan to fly them and need the free bags, probably not. I always have biz or personal so I have free bags for when I fly, but I generally fly them or DL domestically. And you can keep any miles active with their shopping portal, though I'm not positive if hey expire or not. Neither AS card is a good point earner outside of AS charges.
That makes sense, thanks @afan. Hmmm… I will have to think about it. I rarely fly with them because I’m in the Midwest.

The biz card is still churnable, at least I haven't seen anything saying it's not recently. They changed the personal to 24 months, but I think it's not having the card vs when you got the bonus. It made it harder and so I'd have to keep the biz in between if I wanted to churn the personal. Which I need to figure out since I have both and I think one of the af's will come up soon.

The aluminum ones are gorgeous. I was thinking about the polycarbonate because it's so much lighter. What's really stopped me is that they are all technically too wide (even the smallest one) for domestic carriers. I wouldn't want to have to gate check it.

fly bigger planes... :P

had to gate check once on delta, our luggage are usually fine on B737/A319 but we were on a commuter(E175). gate checked... well we still had to take it out to the front of the plane though lol.

13, but that's when I started learning about CCs. I would have done it sooner if I knew about it.
I added my teen sons to our two CFF cards. Chase didn’t ask for their SSNs when I added them, so I’m wondering how the credit score world will know to take those cards into account in looking at their credit. Any tips?

Ugh - apparently BOA's systems are down today. Yesterday I applied and was instantly approved for the Amtrak MC - we don't use Amtrak often, but DD is doing the DCP in the spring and wants to bring her car, so instead of a 2 day drive from CT, I'm planning on driving to Lorton, VA and taking the autotrain the rest of the way. Got my temporary card info upon approval so I could start working toward my MSR, but charges won't go through! So frustrating!

Following up on my own post. BOA is a $hitshow. Apparently what happened is that my card was flagged for fraud, because I actually tried to use the temporary card info that I was given so that I could use the account while waiting for the physical card. What??? The fraud department told me that I can't use the account until I get the physical card and activate it, and that's why it was flagged. I asked the guy "so you mean to tell me that I was approved, and I was asked if wanted temporary card info to use while waiting for the physical card, and was given that information, but then my account was flagged for fraud because I tried to use it before the physical card was activated??" His response was "yes, I know it's confusing, but..." It's not confusing, it's patently stupid. "Here's your account info, but if you try to use it your account will get locked." SMH.

On top of that, because of the "fraud," they canceled the physical card. Didn't bother to contact me to tell me that, but hey, why would I expect them to do that?

At the end of the day, they are expediting a new card to me, but because of the weekend I won't get in until at least Tuesday, and I was planning on using to pay DD's acceptance fee for the DCP, which is due by Monday.

This is definitely going to be a short-lived card. I'll get my Amtrak points, keep it for the year, and then drop it.

That sounds even stupider than Citi flagging me for fraud because I rented a moving van and changed states.

I know we aren't real big on cash back cards here, but Navy Federal just changed their 1.5% card to 1.75% if you have a direct deposit with them. Don't know if that really changes the calculus for anyone here but it's at least interesting. Now that I have two 2% CB cards though I won't be bothering to get it.

I just booked flights from Houston to London for our DCL cruise out of Dover in September 2022 on United premium economy for 45,000 points one way pp. Has anyone flown overseas and sat in this section? Looks like 3 rows of seating right behind business/first polaris. Also looking for recommendations for a place to stay in London for 2 nights pre-cruise. There will be a total of 5 people including a 10 month old so will need 2 rooms or possibly an AirB and B. Hoping to see a show or two while there.

Flights booked on United to Europe. Used UR points for RIC to BCN and LHR to RIC. I tried to add BCN to LHR but the price jumped by an amount that made no sense. I then bought one ways on BA from BCN to LHR. For some reason the price was a lot more through Chase. No clue why but I bought directly from BA using my CS Platinum.

Dh wants to PYB with our chase points instead of saving them for Japan. I’m having a hard time with that. I get having the money now when we don’t know when we’ll be able to go to Japan again but I’m still hesitant
I have been using PYB on dining with my CSR since it started, since We only use URs to book hotels at the same 1.5 redemption via the travel portal.
I remember when you booked your trip to Japan and think you got more value out of URs than that…have you looked into what flights may cost and if 3 seats may be available ?

We haven’t looked at any flights since I doubt we’ll go to Japan until he’s 4-5 years old. It’ll be awhile and I think that’s why Dh wants the $ now instead of waiting. I’m worried we won’t be able to get that many URs back but maybe we can

I wouldn't do it, of course I've never used PYB either. I think I can get better value for those points holding on to them, if nothing else I can use them for SW flights. Right now I'm hoarding all my points for a SD trip with my now 8 year old when he turns 10 and/or my 40th birthday trip to Paris that was supposed to happen last spring.

PYB just changed categories. I wasn’t sure if you were aware. They dropped grocery stores, but restaurants is still a category. I just spend much more on groceries and can MS more by purchasing a VGC at the grocery store and using points to offset the cost. I will continue to PYB with dining, I just won’t be able to offset nearly as much per month. I guess that is a good thing because I will be able to save some URs for when we feel comfortable traveling again.

I agree with your DH. I only get 1.5 value for the travel we book with URs, and I would rather have the cash in hand now.

I guess it depends on what cpp you get when you go to Japan. If your saving for business or first class tickets and can get 2+ cpp, then you should save them. If your redemption is near the 1.5 cpp in the future, then your probably better off using PYB.

With UR, I tend to think finding 1.8 cpp or higher is very possible with Hyatt and now AC, so I’d favor saving them myself.

We only use it for dining because we shop at target which doesn’t count for grocery stores. He redeemed some today but still have enough for first class if we want to travel there.

We would fly business or first through ANA. We did that in 2019 and plan to again but not until he’s older. I convinced Dh to save them for now but I’m not sure how much longer he’ll be willing to wait

I can understand both views, it’s also hard to know that far in advance if anything will change in regard to using the URs for flights
