New Avatar! Finally completed my long awaited trip to Glacier. We spent 9 days there.

To relate to CCs, final costs
Total trip $5,057
OOP $640

25K RRs + CP for flights. Used my 4 upgraded boarding credits as well
3 Bonvoy FNCs
135K URs through PYB on normal spend. Covered hotels, rental car, gas, annual NPS pass, boat rides

Glad we went even though it was smoky. The long range views were hazy/muted but all the hikes were amazing. We managed to see (from a very safe distance), 6 bears, 3 moose, 2 deer, 1 fox, several ducks and other birds and a ton of wildflowers!

Off to plan next year - I think it will be Crater Lake and Redwoods.

So glad you got to make this trip. Hopefully someday I'll get there!

So the roller coaster with Puggles continues. The vet today said it is not healing at all and he really needs to see the specialist. Of course, we are out of town. I am beyond 💔. He is my baby and 2nd child.
Aww, poor Puggles! So sorry to hear that. Hope it gets better!! I know it’s heartbreaking and such an expense when they get hurt/sick, etc. And I am right there with you and the dog drama…
Let me tell you about my children (aka dog babies)… We have been three times to the vet in the last month. Pup #1 broke off his right dew claw nail, who knows how! Bleeding so much, wouldn’t leave it alone. Then a week later, Pup #2 had an extremely severe allergic reaction to something external, and had to be rushed to the ER vet for hives ALL OVER his body and trouble breathing when his airways were closing. Now, Pup #1 has broken off his other (left) dew claw nail!! Omg. I will never ever allow a breeder to keep dew claws on any puppy I buy again. I know some breeders tout this as an unethical thing to remove dew claws, but so far my puppy isn’t even 1 yet and he’s broken both off and had to be on pain killers and vet both times, so from my experience, they have to go when the pups are born. It’s such an easy procedure when they are first born and would have saved me so many headaches so far. Now, I have a 1 year old that I may need to pay for a surgery to have them removed completely, which will be a couple grand and involve a traumatic experience putting the dog under 😩

I am pretty sure the world is telling me not to vacation. First the broken leg in June and now he has gotten the cast off by himself that the vet just redid today while my friend/pet sitter went out to dinner. 😢 Life just sucks at the moment! I think I need a break from CCs. I have enough stress.

So sorry about your puppers. Mine turns 1 on the 25th and the poor boy has been through so much.

I'm in the process of a refi now. I haven't gotten to closing yet but so far everything I've had to do has been digital. they did ask if my wife and I could meet in person to sign the final papers but I think if you have to do digital they can do it. They will have an appraiser contact you. Mine is coming tomorrow.

Are you able to cash out once the credit hits? My AMEX has a zero balance and I want to put the funds back into my account to offset the closing costs.
I've read that you can request a check from AMEX, but I've just been paying all the things with my AMEX since my credit hit to free up other money I'd normally be paying towards bills. so it felt like actual cash to me.

College student CC question... So both my kids (incoming freshman who just turned 18) got denied for the Chase Student card. Any suggestions on what they should apply for and how soon after the denial can they app for another card?

Anyone know how fast retention bonuses post once the spending is complete? Hoping mine hits before the CS cashout rate changes.

Hope Puggles gets well soon. I do miss having dogs. The unexpected mishaps, not so much even if they do help meet an MSR. DH and I were talking about getting a dog again whenever I retire and he said only if we aren’t traveling like we do, or should I say did because our travel hasn’t been what it used to with the zombie apocalypse going on and all. So I guess I will have to wait until he retires as well. Boo. We are hoping to do most of our international trips before we retire. We both have work schedules that would prevent us with spending the time needed with a dog. Then current goal is when we both aren’t working to maybe do the RV thing around the country and explore the US. Even without an RV, it’s easy enough to find places where you can bring a dog that doesn’t look like a typical dog show hotel 😂 In the meantime, I live vicariously through FB friends that have dogs to get my puppy fix. This of course gives me major FOMO and makes me miss having a dog. Vicious cycle. Best wishes for Puggles and hope they are able to get his leg healed.

By any chance did you make them authorized users on any of your cards? This usually helps when it comes to CC applications.

Have you called reconsideration? I mean the applicants call but they could authorize you to speak and you could find out why they weren't approved. I would want to find out what the reason for denial was, especially considering it was a student card.

Once you have more info and if it is still a no go with Chase, it might be a good idea to try for a secured card with your bank.

Chase has been approving (in the past) 18yo's. That was before the student card.

Another question - do your 18yo's have any kind of job or did they work anywhere during this past summer?

Usually next day after meeting MSR.

I read your post about Puggles in the middle of the night so didn't respond then and now I'm being lazy about looking for it.

Just wanted to say how sorry I am for Puggles that he has to suffer through this. And feeling bad for you and your family as you have become so attached and care for him greatly. As a crazy animal owner and animal lover who has done some wild spending over the years to rescue and save animals, it does my heart good to see how much you care. It took you a while to commit to getting an animal when your son wanted one, and that showed me that you understood the responsibility it would be to take an animal under your roof.

Here's hoping that the possible surgery will work wonders and that in the future you will have many stress free years enjoying the unconditional love that an animal can give their family!

We’re planning to do the bakery once or twice. Did they seem to have good breakfast choices? We most likely will be doing lots of qs around the hotel
it's been a while since I've been there but the boardwalk bakery used to have the most AMAZING giant puffy cinnamon rolls..... I have many fond memories of solo early morning treks over there from Dolphin to get my favorite treat......
