Has anyone been to Wilmington, NC? We are thinking of places we could drive to this year for domestic travel. We’ve been to nearly all the beaches in our state (SC) and thinking of possibly renting a beach house in Wilmington this year. If you’ve been, did you like it?

I've been to Wilmington but never stayed there. My area is a little further up the coast. But I have been to Carolina and Kure Beach the last 2 summers. My kids liked both. I've yet to do Wrightsville. Maybe I'll hit that one this summer.

I live just “up the road” in Raleigh. Wilmington doesn’t really have a beach, but it’s near a lot of beach towns. Our personal favorite (where we owned a beach house for many years) is Ocean Isle. It is quiet but has just enough entertainment - a handful of restaurants (including some pretty nice ones for a beach town), putt putt, ice cream, a great wine and beer shop, even a ropes course just off the island. And it’s only 45 minutes from Myrtle Beach if you want more action. Sunset Beach and Holden Beach are the beaches on either side. Sunset is great if you want really sleepy and relaxed. Holden is bigger than Ocean Isle but a similar vibe. Wrightsville Beach is close to Wilmington and much higher action. Also more traditional hotel choices (the Sunspree being the primary one) than the other places I mentioned. Farther north, Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle are really popular, but I prefer the southern beaches. Happy to answer any questions!

I went many years ago and really enjoyed it.

My family has vacationed just north of Wilmington since the early 70’s when my uncle built a beach house on Topsail Island. We’ve visited Wrightsville, Carolina and Kure Beaches but have never stayed there. We love Topsail Beach! It’s very laid back and even though it is way more built up the past several years, it still has a small town feel. The Wilmington area is nice too...just a lot more people.

Thanks! We were thinking Carolina or Wrightsville Beach possibly, so nice to hear your kids liked it at Carolina.

Wow, thanks for all the recommendations! We are looking at renting a house/Airbnb since we’ll be going with our mother, and my sister and her husband, and probably the doggos too. We don’t care about proximity to Myrtle. We don’t care for it, lol. We much prefer Charleston or HHI for SC beaches. I’ll have to research ocean isle and Holden beach! Both sound like our type of vibe, and maybe even Wrightsville if we go in off season and there are less people.

Thanks for your input! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I’ve heard some good things about the city itself, so I’m excited to check it out.

Wow, sounds like a nice area then if you’ve been vacationing there that long! We’re excited to check out somewhere new. I’ll have to look up Topsail Beach... thanks for the recommendation!

For Ocean Isle, for house rentals I’d recommend Williamson Realty, Sloane Realty or Cooke Realty. I’m not as familiar on Holden, but I know Hobbs Realty is one of the big players in town.

It’s showed up for me but I didn’t buy gc. My minimum discount is 5%. Do you have any other way to get 5% at least? Buying to get dgc at 1.5% Isn’t the best you would be better off putting your charges on the CSR earn 3x travel then pyb.
Thanks a lot for this advice. I almost replied without fully understanding what you were saying. I need to think this through. I've already got a lot of Chase UR, and I'm anticipating 200K more from P1+P2 Ink cards via referral this week, and another 200K+ from P1+P2 Sapphire MDD's in mid-spring. I'd prefer to use UR instead of cash while at Disney, even if it's not the best possible redemption for my UR's. I've already got park passes, and I've already got a stash of discounted Disney gift cards.

I could charge Disney restaurants directly to my CSR, earn 3x UR, then redeem UR via PYB at 1.5%. I could use my already purchased Disney gift cards for all room charges/souvenirs. Finally, if I somehow use up all of my Disney gift cards, I can pay off the remaining room charges/souvenirs with my CSR, hope for 3x UR, then consider redeeming UR via PYB at 1%.

Your plan also avoids the hassle of purchasing more Disney gift cards. I think I'm in.

ETA -- I guess I need to verify that Disney dining will code as dining on Chase, and not as travel. It would be a bummer if it is the latter.

I have only used the Chase portal to book cars once or twice. Once was National where I have Emerald Executive (go straight to the car). When I arrived to pick up my car, I was told since I booked through a 3rd party, I needed to go to the counter.
Since chase started PYB, I book the car the way I want. For example, Budget on Costco with my Budget FB number. Then, I chose the equivalent charges to pay myself back that amount and consider it done. Still a 1.5 value. That way, I know I can go straight to my car and be covered by my CSR insurance.
Just to clarify - you are getting 1 cent per UR when using PYB for rental cars, right? You are factoring in the 3x UR you receive for paying with your CSR to get the 1.5 value? I haven’t though about PYB this way before tonight, and I just want to make sure I have the math correct.

Disney dining coded as dining in December. All charges to the room coded as travel.

According to one comment on r/churning you may get the offer for the card level it was as of eligibility date (somewhere in Dec29 -Jan1, depends on the offer), as they got the $20 dining credit on a downgraded Aspire card. (If I'm understanding the comment correctly )

You could get 1.5 (CSR) or 1.25 (CSP) but you would cover the charge with grocery, restaurant or home improvement charges on PYB. So you get 3x on the rental car for $200 and then you offset with a grocery charge for 1.5x PYB thereby equaling out to $0 spent. The same for hotels and other travel charges.

Thanks, time to get some cards out of the sock drawer.

Some do and some don’t. If you are staying on property I’d just charge everything to the room. Then every few days go down and pay it off with dgc.

For AmEx Gold card holders, the $10 Uber credit should be showing up in accounts soon (if not already) Couple notices from r/churning users that $10 credit has been added, with expiration of 3/1.

Thanks, got 2 added. I like how you can combine the credits to use in one order. With all these credits, I look forward to the beginning of the month now :D
Great, I haven’t even used this month’s Plat credit.
Yep, I saw that I got the $10 this morning, which adds to the $15 from the Amex Plat credit

I wanted to say something about it then, but somehow Safari disappeared from my iPhone, and oddly Safari doesn't show up in the Apple Store o_O

Okay, the world has gone mad. We are fully virtual and parents are completely outrgaged that it's not a snow day when the surrounding counties are having one. Thursday and Friday were asynchronous learning days for middle and high schoolers. And every Wednesday is a Wellness Wednesday with no instruction.

Thanks. I assume safest thing is not to stack these? or is anyone going to try to use more than one on their phone bill per month?
