Just got approved for the sapphire card. Anyone have a clue when/if I’ll be able to add the card to my Apple Pay before I receive the physical card? It’s currently not an option on my chase Mobil app.
Congrats! You should get the card in a couple of days. Did you do the CSR or the csp? The reserve should be sent 2 day

I was approved on December 28th and was able to add to my Apple wallet yesterday (maybe the day before).

For my CSP in November, I immediately called and asked for it to be expedited and I had it in 36 hours.

Happy New Year !

What we had planned/did in 2020

February-trip to Orlando for my DH’s 60th Birthday...visiting our son, lots of golf for DH & son...while I relaxed by the pool. Using our Disney APs. ...took this trip before everything was closed

May...trip to Orlando cancelled...kept moving it back a month..book, cancelled etc

October...a big family Disney trip booked...cancelled for a happy reason...daughter is pregnant

November....left our bubble for a Thanksgiving day trip to Orlando...a repeat of the February trip

For both trips we flew SW booked with RR points and using the CP, Hotels were booked with URs, used my CSR to PYB to erase dining

We both only opened 2 Chase cards each this year.

For 2021
January...first grandchild is due on the 6th
October I have rebooked the family Disney trip...hopefully we can go

Lastly, I’d like to kick off the new year with a reminder I got from FB of where I was 2 years ago, this should serve as a focus of where I’d like to go back and what my primary goal is with regards to this hobby.
Holy Penguins, Batman! Great pix, thanks for sharing. I woke up to an article on my phone talking about this cruise, lol. Guess there’s a solar eclipse in December over Antarctica, so that’ll be fun for whoever goes.

Lol, she went to London in college and has always wanted to go back. I'm sure that'll come up again in a few years.
My dd did a semester in England. She wants to move there permanently.
I’ve noticed it as well.....still read the DVC boards but avoid posting there...it use to be a friendlier place years ago

You're north metro right? I'm in Grand Rapids Memorial day weekend. Driving through Albert Lea the next two weekends on our way to and from Rushmore. And Brooklyn Park Father's Day weekend for the highest level softball tournament in MN.

Yep north metro. Used to live in Brooklyn Park for 12 years.

Glad you enjoyed the pix. Wow, a solar eclipse does sound like a unique experience! As much as I’d love to see that, I’ve a got a few years ahead of me hoarding UR and Hyatt points to go back there.

How 2020 ACTUALLY went:
May - Prepared a tax return at work
:rotfl2:

I mean I enjoy an occasional glass, but sooooo many offers for wine from Amex just filling space that could be occupied by much better offers.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed this. Maybe 2020 would have been better with more wine, maybe Amex is trying to tell us something 😂

Happy New Year Dis friends! Love the new thread, thanks @SouthFayetteFan for keeping it up. Welcome to all the new folks joining in, it's great to see fresh faces.

I was looking forward to setting up my Uber account with the $10 credit from DH's and my Gold. I'm hoping to load them both onto the account that already has the $15 from the Plat, but I don't see anything on the AmEx site yet.

I love seeing the posts on how much people saved and where they went with churning and every year I say I'm going to start tracking it, but never do. I know it shouldn't be that hard, but anyone want to share how they track their savings? I've done it for one or two trips, but then never put it all together.

Takes me back to our first anniversary cruise almost 23 years ago - we had just sailed into Venice on the Grand Princess in Aug 1999 and witnessed a spectacular solar eclipse. Sailing into Venice past St Marks Square on (what was then) the largest cruise ship in the world was pretty memorable in itself, but the solar eclipse was the icing on the cake.

Hi, I've lurked on this thread for a long time and think its time to join in.

Current Cards:
1990 - AMEX Green Card
1998 - Capital One Rewards MasterCard
2005 - CHASE Slate
2010 - CHASE Disney Visa
2005 - Discover IT
12/20 - CHASE Sapphire Preferred - just opened thru Chase Private Client banker
12/20 - Hilton Honors AMEX Surpass
  • What amount of spend would you put on a card monthly (i.e. groceries, gas, insurance, cable, cell phone, other expenses)? $3,000
  • Do you currently payoff your CCs in full every month or do you carry any balances/pay any interest? Pay in full.
  • What airport(s) do you typically fly out of? IND
  • Do you have a preference of Frequent Flyer program? No; I do occasionally get to use a friends passes to fly free on AA.
  • Does SOUTHWEST Airline service your airport? Yes
  • Do you have a Hotel Rewards program preference? Hilton and/or Marriott
  • Do you currently have travel points or miles in any program? (if so, which programs and how much)
    1. Amex MRs - 330,000
    2. Hilton - 59,000
  • What at your specific goals for churning credit cards?
    1. Hawaii - probably 2022
    2. Disney - as soon as Covid restrictions / vaccine situation improves - its my DH's favorite place.
    3. Cash Back - I use my Discover IT card for this during 5% categories to by discounted Disney Gift Cards.
  • Who does your travel party consist of? Myself, DH and sometimes our adult daughter.
I don't know what card I should do next but I think I want to focus on Hilton and/or Marriott points for Hawaii. The two latest cards are P1 only but may get P2 signed up if something looks advantageous.
Welcome!! I agree with @wanderlust7 that the Hilton cards would great for a trip to Hawaii, but depending when you are going it may be tight getting the points and then having standard rooms available. If you are somewhat flexible it would be a great option. I'm not sure how far out you need to book, but I booked our March 2021 trip in May 2020. When I tried to change a points night to a FNC around September all the standard rooms were booked, although one night did become available in Dec. I'd also second the advice to look at Google flights to see what airline will be the best fit. It would be perfect if you could use some of your MRs for the flight.

That sounds amazing. I saw my first solar eclipse in a parking lot in the middle of Idaho and still thought it was spectacular, the most amazing natural phenomenon I've seen. I can't wait until the next one in 2024.

How 2020 was SUPPOSED to go:

May-Disneyland
July-Whistler BC
September-WDW
October-Kauai
December-Disneyland

How 2020 ACTUALLY went:

September-Hotel Del Coronado 3 day weekend
*FNC & $250 credit from Aspire
*RT Southwest flights
*PYB/DoorDash credit for dining

October-1 week cabin/house rental Greer, AZ.
*Used Disneyland ticket refund to pay for this ☹

Total ~ $3500-4000 includes RT airfare to San Diego all food, lodging, and misc.

We paid $2400 out of pocket at the most, which includes the price for the Disneyland tickets.

We had 2 fun trips, and my HYSA has never looked better. Still hoping for better travel days ahead.
I will join in!

Feb - Weekend in Highlands, NC (Park on Main - UR Portal)
Apr - Disneyland (Cancelled)
May - Italy (Cancelled)
Blue Ridge, GA
Hilton Head Island
July - Weekend near Crossville, TN (Friend's cabin)
Aug - HHI (DVC Resort)
Asheville, NC (First Empty Nester Trip! Grove Park Inn - UR Portal. Saw Downton Abbey Exhibit at Biltmore).
Sept - HHI
Oct - HHI
Nov - Asheville (Grove Park Inn - UR Portal)
Dec - HHI (DVC Resort)

As I compiled this list, I am surprised at how much we actually travelled this year. All of these trips are within a few hours drive of our house and many are weekend or 3/4 day trips. Working from home has allowed so much flexibility and we have relocated several times to HHI to enjoy the off season.

As we sit on the verge of cancelling our Disney trip for the 3rd time, I am so thankful for the 6 months of family time that we had with our 18 and 21 year old girls that we would have never had. We have had a great time baking bread, having fancy dinners on the patio, working puzzles, playing games, etc. I am thankful for all the help from others on this board that has allowed us to take trips and stay in nice places that we would not have done otherwise. Happy New Year!

Wow, disneybirds, that is a lot!

Us (haven't seen 2 youngest kids since last December)-

Feb - Universal & Disney
May CANCELLED - Universal & Disney (me) Philippines dive trip (DH)
July - CANCELLED - family reunion/memorial service for MIL in Wisconsin
October - CANCELLED - Disney (me) Cayman islands dive trip (DH)
December - CANCELLED - Universal OI meet-up (me)

However, we did manage to buy a new house in December

2021 - I have a Feb Disney res, rented points originally from May & then October, expect to cancel and lose the money

end of May - we are supposed to go to St Lucia, not sure we will be vaccinated in time.
