A couple quick questions:
-Is there a limit to the number of UR point transfers allowed between accounts (ie: P1 & P2's accounts?)
- I'm sure this is YMMV, Does the Dolphin let you pay for upgraded rooms at check in if they don't offer a complimentary upgrade due to status? I'm really debating if we'd get use out of the new Bonvoy offer at Disney since we are a family of 5 and would have to book at Dolphin. The thought of 5 people in a room with 2 double beds in very unappealing. We usually stay in the Epcot resort area though, which is obviously much more expensive if we book at a Disney resort.

Is there a way on the Amex website to see how many points you earn for a purchase using a Hilton card? I can see for the regular amex but not for Hilton. Thank you!

Also, not sure if it's been around a while, I have an offer for spend $500 get $150 back on Norwegian cruise lines on my amex for those of you thinking of cruises.

I just checked on my Aspire, and if I click on the transaction for more details I can see a box over to the right lower side of the screen how many points I got for that purchase.

Kroger emailed me a code for 5% off gift cards.

And dd is furious with me because she wants to apply early decision to a school which is a safety and I told her she needs to apply early action instead and see where she gets merit aid.

That is why I didn't want mine to apply early decision. I wanted them to have choices and to compare offers. I don't believe UVA, like other top schools, has many merit scholarships though, I could be wrong and maybe it is different for in state vs OOS. DS went through the Jefferson scholarship process, he went as far as the regional interview. That would have been great! He did just get notice he received a scholarship just the other day. Actually he found out by having a large sum of money deposited into his checking account. lol I don't think they told him at all. The only description we found of the scholarship said winners would be notified in April so not sure if 2020 just got them and they couldn't get them done in time. I am not even sure if it just a one year thing or a 4 year thing, but it was a nice surprise!

Lucky on the 5% off! I'll keep checking my email and hope I get that too.

Acceptance on an early decision means she's on the hook for going there, right? DD is in Jr year so I have 1 more year to learn about all this. I have read some people are concerned about how this year's senior class may be jockeying for school spots with the kids who deferred this year, and that is going to create a backlog of students wanting to enter next fall. Still, if it's a safety school, I don't think she'd want to waste early decision on that application, right? I thought early decision was to give an edge to a student applying for a reach school.

P2's AAdvantage Aviator Biz card is coming up on the 1 year mark. Any drawbacks to closing it? Not really interested in any of their other cards except the Hawaiian Biz card, but we would not need that card anytime soon as we currently have no plans for Hawaii. Would most likely use it to get to Tahiti, then on to Bora Bora.

Thanks.

Oh, gosh. That's wonderful. What a nice surprise. And super impressive that he got a regional interview for the Jefferson scholarship. My pediatrician's son was offered a Jefferson scholarship but went to Yale. She told me writing the tuition check to Yale was particularly painful!

Yes, I don't think she'd get a merit scholarship at UVa. And I'm totally prepared not to get any aid--need or merit based. But I want her to take more time and see what's available.

Yes, this is definitely a good year for early decision if you know where to go because of deferals. So yes, good for reaches and fine for target schools but pretty pointless for safeties IMO.

I do wonder how all the deferrals will impact this year's senior class. I think some schools had more than others. I understand how this years experience for freshman is not typical, but I also didn't think that the gap year would be typical either. It is usually for traveling or maybe even saving with a great job, neither of which are really possible either at the moment. I wonder if anyone that deferred is regretting that decision. I agree Early decision should be for a reach school, but I am not even sure there are any truly safety schools that offer ED. All the schools I have seen that even offer ED are pretty selective. I read far too much college confidential with my first one to even think anything was a safety school. lol It is pretty discouraging to see some people's stats that don't get into certain schools. My kids got mad at me when I said that I am pretty sure that admission counselors must use darts to pick the kids. lol There seemed to be little rhyme or reason when you read the accepted/declined stats.

Uggh increased bonuses! I got the Marriott Chase card earlier in the summer (24 months past my SPG Biz card so I can hold both). Then they increase the bonus to 100K points and now 5 certs!! DH is eligible in mid-Oct for this card. If it is still around will probably have him go for it.

I want the IHG with increased bonus and a CIU and a Hyatt. Too many cards, not enough time! I think the Hyatt is at the bottom of my list. I think I should try CIU since it might be 50/50 of approval given DPs. Then I can go for IHG if it is still there later or if CIU is denied.

Wow - I did not know you could apply for a Marriot Chase card if you had previously received a Marriott AMEX card (including the old Amex SPG Biz, now the Bonvoy Biz). I thought it was a lifetime lockout. This is good news to me!!! So what is the date that matters? Is it the date approved or the date of the bonus?

I hear you! But you still need a data driven process IMO.

I work for a private university and I think that universities are going to try and get as many students as possible in - many schools are very strapped for cash especially with the difficulty in getting the full tuition paying foreign students to attend this year. My son is applying for ED where I work, thankfully it's his top choice, but he's also applying for a bunch of state schools since he has the Florida Prepaid program.

That new Bonvoy offer.... I'm locked out for life b/c I was all over those SPG Amex back in the day,right?:sad1: I want this one a LOT

Me and DH can be in SPG jail with you. Both of us had the SPG personal and business. Used it for our first trip to Hawaii for our 10th anniversary so that was around 5 years ago. Back in the SPG good ol' days...

I tried about 4 months ago to apply for funsies and got the popup on both accounts saying something along the lines of 'hey, no, you already had this. Nice try. '

The lifetime lock is only from the equivalent Amex cards. SPG biz -> Bonvoy biz, SPG Luxury -> Bonvoy Brilliant. An Amex "lifetime" is supposedly 7 years, lol.

Handy dandy chart on the Bonvoy rules (scroll down):

Thanks for the heads up! I don't feel confident enough about our summer 2021 cruise to pay it down, maybe I'll book something for 2022.

oh my gosh I just checked my Chase account and all those "pay yourself back" or whatever they call it... each one posted as a separate credit. I was not expecting that!

Will the Amex be the same I wonder?
