Anyone have a Fort Lauderdale hotel recommendation pre-cruise? I'm thinking about Oasis (changed from Symphony since it was a little cheaper and goes to St. Thomas) for spring break 2021. I'd love to use my Marriott 35,000 point certificate if possible (which I guess means it can't be higher than a cat 4).
Not a Marriott, but we stayed at the Hyatt Place. At that time (2 years ago), it was 8K points. Not sure if it changed. Not near the water but also not a far drive.

I love that feeling of accomplishment when I finish up an MSR. I’m going to drop the kids off at school, drive a mile to Fry’s (Kroger) and finish off my Hawaiian Biz, and DH’s CIP with the 4x fuel points offer. My wallet will be getting lighter. Literally and figuratively speaking 🤣

How do you like that pool? I was looking at the website.

I attended a wedding in Montreal at a Westin downtown many years ago but it is no longer a Westin. It was high rise with maybe 35 or more stories. My youngest ran into the elevator as we were waiting for people to get off. The doors closed and she rose 34 stories and then back down. We had pushed the button again immediately but were too slow. Talk about a moment of panic as she was 4 years old at the time.

I love visiting Montreal but it's been some time since I've been there. I need to go again soon.
I haven’t looked at the pool. 😂
That does sound scary with your daughter.
I am working 10 hours a day while I’m up here. I do love Montreal too. I’ll probably come up again next month for fun. We have friends that we stay with when we visit. First time for me staying in a hotel here in many years.

OMG, my DH's doppelganger! :rotfl: I keep telling him he doesn't need to come if he doesn't want to, but he still ends up coming. I'm taking the kids to WDW for Spring Break and the plan is he's not coming. I keep thinking he's going to change his mind though. Even made backup SW flights for him with points, lol.
story of my life....

Have also stayed at the Hyatt Place near the airport, and plan on doing so again later this year.

If use of Marriott cert is a must, there are a couple of decent cat 5 options, but looks like they will most likely be on Peak Rates so 40k. So if it is just a one night pre-cruise, I would probably stick with one of the Springhill Suites/Residence Inn type places near the airport.

Anyone else do the Simple Bank $500 bonus? It says the bonus will be credit by 2/14 at 5pm. Just for fun I checked my account, and it posted today!

Yay! I looked and I have mine too. Now do you remember how long we have to keep it? Can I close the account now that I have the $500. I will say Simple has the most NOT SIMPLE website EVER to use! I guess it's time to start looking for my next bonus ;)

Just got our (first) companion pass for ‘20/‘21. Two questions: when you got your c pass, did you just make a spreadsheet of all the places you wanted to go and the constraints on each (only go here during warm weather months etc) and then match up with SW sales? And secondly, has anyone been to Salt Lake City to the genealogy library and have recommendations on where to stay?

This happened to me as a kid. In Milwaukee, on the way to go to the Zoo. My dad was still single, so I was 3 or 4, and I still vividly remember the terror!!!

I'm going to Vienna this summer but I am flying a very circuitous route.
Yeah, that won't work for dd lol
That sounds amazing! What a cool thing to do. We are doing Vienna for spring break. There is a nonstop from Newark, and maybe one from DC? Pretty sure the ones I saw out of PHL were not direct. We are actually doing Newark/Amsterdam/Vienna on the way over and Vienna/Zurich/Newark on the way back. Chose that over the nonstop because I couldn't get business class seats on the non-stop, and I thought that doing the long haul lie flat (United Polaris), then a hop would be better than arriving at 7am in Vienna after being up all night in economy, and then possibly having to wait hours for our room to be ready. Better to arrive late morning, with at least some chance of having gotten a few hours of sleep on the way over.
On United's site, I saw the nonstop from Newark (on Austrian, I believe) and most days around the time she'd go it's 30K for economy. Cash prices are INSANE! I didn't have time nor energy (still ) to check PHL and the DC airports, so I'lll do that today. She says that she should know dates in 1-2 weeks :bored:

Just checked---PHL flights have 2 stops and IAD flights have 1 stop, all with 30K economy availability most days. She's never transited Europe alone before, so my first choice will be the nonstops from EWR. Second choice will be whatever has at least 2 hours transit time. I can talk her through Frankfurt if needed.

New Southwest Performance Business Offer... for those that like to SPEND A LOT!
https://creditcards.chase.com/business-credit-cards/southwest/performance-business
Earn up to 100,000 points!
Earn 70,000 points after you spend $5,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. Plus, an additional 30,000 points after you spend $25,000 total on purchases within the first 6 months of account opening.

I'm not sure I'm looking to spend $25k (that's almost all the money I spend in a year, lol) to get 100k SW points but figured I'd put it out there... This would be a path to a CP via just 1 credit card.

EDIT: I will say this...we have some people among us who apparently spend a TON of money regularly. And that's cool, but then you're butting up against the pacing recommendations and always wanting a new card. This offer could be perfect for folks like that who need something to preoccupy their spend for a few months!

So, DH has SW Priority (personal). He has 10k referral offer. We have biz spend that can meet that bonus, and could use the second CP (I'm currently listed as his companion, but if we have two we can make them both our kids). Might go for this one. Thanks for posting, I hadn't seen it before.

Funny you should mention this. I was just looking at a hotel before our Oasis Cruise in December. Main reason for keeping my Marriott Cards. The only hotels close the the port are 40,000 or over. UGHHH!! I may have to use CSR UR points for this. Now I am really thinking if I should keep all my Marriott Cards. I just renewed the AMEX One and have 2 Chase ones coming up. Not sure the cards are worth keeping anymore...

This is a great opportunity for business owners that pay quarterly taxes. That's where my big spend comes from. But I'm not due for a companion pass this year!

I was just able to do this tonight via chat. I had tried about a week or so ago (definitely in January) and was denied, told they don't do that and that I should plan a staycation, as I mentioned I couldn't use it before it expired. Now today, no issue. This was for my husband's 35k night that was set to expire March 1, 2020. No idea if they have a canned response if it's too far in advance, as I know others have had luck trying earlier. I also have 1 on my account currently expiring April 1, 2020. I will probably wait until March to try to extend that one.

Using these in LA for 4 nights in August (already had 1 applied, will have 1 more coming as my biz card fee just hit) after 6 nights at Disneyland at GCV (super excited for this score at 7 months, which took some walking). The LA property isn't changing categories (thank goodness), and I have all the individual nights booked through the UR portal on my CSR just in case. Cancelling them individually as the free nights get applied. The first night has already moved up to "peak" so it's a good thing I already had that cert applied before that happened. The others are holding at 35k for now.
I tried via chat yesterday, no luck.
I went ahead and made a reservation using both certificates. But I'm still so conflicted on whether I want to keep the Chase Marriott Biz or cancel it. I'm for sure canceling the Amex Marriott Biz, but my chase fee posted this month. ugh.

@striker1064 Which area do you recommend we stay at for a museum centered trip? We want to visit the Air & Space, Natural History, possibly the spy museum
