So I got the Capital One Venture card for the large bonus. Bought my tickets from UT with it and a few other things to reach the 3k. When the bonus hit I applied it as purchase eraser towards the cost of the tickets. Our trip is the first week in June and now with COVID-19 I’m thinking about canceling. I did physical tickets from UT to have the refund option. If we can’t go in June it may be 2 more years until we can go. If I get a refund from UT do I lose my account opening bonus that I’ve already cashed in or how will that work? I got the card and made the UT purchase in mid February.

I woke up to a notification from Alexa. In Central VA I think we are on a watch until noon. Stay safe, all!

I just checked and we have a high wind warning but fortunately no tornadic activity and a gale warning for the water areas. Woke up to pouring rain but that has subsided. They are warning of expected power outages and possibility of falling trees. This warning goes until 6pm this evening for us. I'm in the process of digging holes for my plum trees, and it is now 66 degrees so I think I'll go out and work on that.

Finally have finished my Adirondack chair. I feel so fulfilled and now want the footstool and the table to go between them. But those two items are not in store here and more expensive than I want to pay online at Costco, especially since I got both chairs reduced last year. I put the chairs on my deck but may move them under a shady tree in my yard later as it gets hotter.

The OC Register apparently is predicting June 1 for a reopen of DL. Our household continues to wait and see. Thankfully, we would drive so no plane tickets involved, and the hotel is of course refundable up to a week or so out.

$1800 to go to meet MSR!
Our vacation there was to begin June 6. So my dilemma is, do I really want to be there a week after they reopen?

We met the MSR on Dh’s capital one venture so got the 50k points. We have no eligible purchases to use the points on since we haven’t been traveling. Is there another good use for capital one points?

Capital One miles don't expire as long as your account is open.
ETA: I've also had good luck with them refunding the AF after it posts to avoid closing the account. They refunded it for me the past two years.
Oh okay cool. That’s good to know about the miles not expiring. We used my capital one miles last year to cover part of our Airbnb stay. I was able to get my AF waived this year. They told me it was a one time thing but maybe next year they’ll say the same thing lol

So tentatively booking some flights for August. Anyone think we can change planes on a SW flight in PHX in 45 minutes? I’ve been to PHX before but on AA. So is 45 minutes doable?

I'm thinking we probably won't try Texas in July lol! We are in the midwest (not too far from St. Louis), so we get the heat and humidity, but I doubt it's as bad as Texas! DH doesn't mind going to hot places in the summer, but he thinks they need to have a beach lol!

I was also thinking about Niagara Falls, but I'm not sure there's enough to do there for a whole week - I need to research. We've also always wanted to do a northeast vacation (DH wants to go to Maine for sure), but I also feel like fall would be the perfect time to do that trip, so we'll just have to see.

@wendow - sorry about your DDs trip as well. It's such a hard time to be a young adult. I'm afraid some of the things they are missing out on will not be replaceable unfortunately :(.
Maine is actually nice in the summer. Lived there for a few years and very much loved my summers. We did not have air conditioners. The leaves will be beautiful in the fall, but you can't wait too long because a lot of places do close for the winter. We lived in a tiny town on the coast, basically across the street from the bay (stationed at military base that is now closed). I don't know about more inland though. It's been many years (my son was born there and is an adult now!), but I have great memories of taking summer walks and collecting wild blueberries.

You can always put a small autopay on that card. I have my Hyatt card set to pay my sewer/water bill and use it for nothing else.

I can't comment on what they do as far as the SUB goes if that purchase was needed to hit your MSR and you wouldn't have hit it without that purchase. I'm only guessing, but I don't think they would take it back. I can say that when I've used purchase eraser for things like a hotels.com stay that I eventually cancelled, it was just reflected in my reward miles balance. For example, if I make a $100 purchase at hotels.com I earn 200 miles. When I cancel the reservation they just take 200 miles back from my rewards balance. It doesn't affect my account $ balance, as in they don't go and "unerase" that purchase. Hope that makes sense.

I'm hoping for a trip to Northern Michigan in July/August. I have family there but it's so beautiful. No clue if everything will be up and running.
We have camping reservations for Northern Michigan July 17-28. I'm hoping that we are able to go!
Hey that’s where I live! I can tell you that right now the big box store are still open and the small stores are doing their best. We are on stay home for the rest of this month and people are getting grumpy about it. Traverse City still hasn’t officially cancelled the cherry festival (I will be surprised if it happens though).

we usually do a group camping trip with dh’s brother’s family in mackinaw city over July 4th weekend. Not sure if that’s going to happen this year since he hasn’t worked in 3 weeks and bil just got laid off from his winter county job(and is a self-employed lawn service guy, so he’s not allowed to work.)

dh’s cip is $18 away from meeting the msr and we have started the spend to meet the MSR on mine. We are booking all of the Disney stuff on mine to meet the spend and get the 3x bonus for travel.

with all of the dog talk....one of our labs has started drinking a concerning amount of water this weekend. I’m going to either send a sample or get a test strip from a friend at a local rescue to check for glucose in his urine since this is a big red flag for possible diabetes. Depending on what that says we will more than likely be making a trip to the vet this week. That will be a quick way to meet the MSR I guess. :/

My parents are in Petoskey. They are snowbirds and typically head north around Memorial Day. But they'd rather be in Naples if both places are basically shut down. Also, they'll need to have their car shipped and fly north and that makes me a little nervous (they're in their mid 70s).
