Dd's school is in Broward County and she has severe asthma. I am trying to stay rational, but just thinking about all the hospitalizations when she was a baby and young child sends shivers down my spine. We have it under control now, and the stats seem to indicate those with asthma would come out of the virus okay, but I don't want her exposed. For now it's just wait and pray that it doesn't get much worse in Broward. Thankfully they have been able to isolate at least 3 of the cases to the Port and hopefully contained it.

I live in Broward and have been to the Port 4 times in the last week or so to teach classes. I also have asthma. I am hoping things stay under control. Can't say I would have minded being quaratined in the Maldives :-) I'm glad I don't have any international travel booked for the near future. I think it is very possible that the trip to NYC in April with my niece might get cancelled depending on how things play out. It's a shame our country didn't respond as quickly and efficiently the way Taiwan, Vietnam and Germany did. Germany has had 3 times as many cases as the US and only 2 deaths. Taiwan has the least amount of cases per capita.

Well, the majority of our deaths are related to a nursing home in WA. Not sure there's enough data to conclude that Germany's response was better than ours considering they have 10x the number of cases we do per capita. But I totally agree we could/should have done more. Unfortunately a lot of the measures taken in Asia would not fly in our society.

Except they are all out. Was at Target last Wednesday and all sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer gone.

Everclear.

My sister found some at a dollar store. Probably gone by now.

Fill a travel bottle with soap for your purse. If there’s water, soap is better anyway.

Great idea! I was going to just carry in my own pump container but a small travel bottle is definitely more discreet.

News out that the governor joined by the 3 biggest cities mayor's and county exec's from 3 counties will announce tomorrow no gatherings over 250. Guess my 10k will be cancelled this weekend which is bummer since it's the county to the south of me but I understand the reasoning. Nothing new about schools but I imagine it'll change how cafeteria lunches and stuff are if not more than that. I'll just run it at the gym, supposed to have a low of 28 so I wasn't looking forward to running outside anyway.

Just hoping it all helps since it's a bit of a catch up in some aspects at this point but not as bad as Italy, poor country/people.
The NYC Half Marathon was cancelled for this upcoming weekend. Kind of a bummer, but also understandable. Kind of hard to do social distancing when over 25k people are running down the street with you. I think I’m still going to go to NYC for the weekend though.

That is pretty much what I said today, I should just carry my own soap with me. I found one at Sprouts today so I feel fine with my 3.5 little bottles and my daughter has a few she can dig up in her bedroom if needed.

If you ever read the fine print, on Dawn dish soap, some are referred to as hand soap and also antibacterial, so if you can't find your normal go to, this might be an option.

I usually snatch the little bottles of dish soap from my studios and have a nice little stash. I'll probably carry along one or two of those for hand washing on the road.

Woah I missed this one. I'm signed up for the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler on April 5 for the first time ever and I feel like that is also possibly in danger.

They called it late afternoon yesterday. I would venture to guess if the cherry blossom 10-miler is cancelled, they won’t call it until a few days before. I’ll cross my fingers for you. If the timing is right on that race, it is absolutely beautiful! Even if it isn’t peak bloom, still one of my favorite courses.

Yeah we are within 2 weeks of peak bloom because it's been such a mild winter, so it's definitely going to miss the race no matter what absent some freak hard freeze (which is not impossible in March). I'm really looking forward to the race. The only part I don't like is the out-and-back through East Potomac Park, I've run that on training runs a few times and it feels endless.

To this point, the messaging has been that the Cherry Blossom Festival is still on, so I would assume as long as that begins on time, the race is on as well. But we'll see.

I also have the Rock 'n' Roll 5k the Sunday before the 10-miler and I'm curious there too, but I won't be as upset if that one is cancelled because there's no problem getting into it.

We've been wanting to plan a trip to Universal Studios Orlando for next year fall break (Nov 2021), but I'm REALLY itching to go and think I'm going to try to pull it off for this year. I noticed that right now in the UR Portal, they have USO tickets on sale, buy 2 days, get 2 days free. Have you guys noticed if this is a common promo that I might see again before fall?

While I agree that some of the measures taken in Taiwan and Vietnam might not work here some would have. The media campaign and PSAs regarding hand washing including a catchy song that inspired a dance challenge and Tik Tok videos was a huge factor in Vietnam and Taiwan. Consistent messaging on protocols and information to the public is a huge factor. The amount of contradictions with regards to information and protocols here is staggering. I was shocked to read the reports of those under self quarantine in New York. Germany’s success in reducing the death rate can also be attributed to early detection with those who have symptoms getting tested and receiving supportive care. I still am seeing sick people go to work nearly everyday in my classes.

so Chase UR portal- if my hotel that is already booked using UR drops in points,if I call will they adjust the points on current booking,or would I have to cancel and then rebook?

First retention offer! Chase SW Premier Biz AF posted this month. I met MSR and then didn't use it again until recently when they put a couple good Chase offers out. No joke I used it twice past MSR for just a couple hundred dollars to take advantage of the BJs and Staples offers. Got the $100 statement credit offer!

So pays for the fee and I'll get next year's anniversary points. I told the rep I wasn't sure if I'd be traveling as much this year and I wasn't sure if it was worth paying the fee to keep the card open, was there anything they can offer me to make up my mind. Came back right away with "I do have an offer available!" and then seemed to remember there's a script about how they would like to see me keep the card and then told me about the statement credit

It's possible that I'll get a 1099 next year and retention offers are included in that amount, but I think the anniversary points (6000) are worth more than the tax I'll be paying on the $100. But something for folks to keep in mind when calculating your value propositions with retention offers.

The problem is they still aren't testing enough. They still haven't tested all of the employees at that nursing home and I can't remember the number that tested positive out of the 100, 30 positive and 60 showing symtptoms, not all tested on the news this morning. So not only are the deaths bad but there's a ton of employees that got infected before they knew what was going on (though I don't get how they didn't).

And the comments on fb about the gathering ban today wasn't surprising but still amazing that people don't care or think it's illegal. There needs to be a better underatanding about why it's happening and like @calypso726. said the messaging should have been better than it has been and how it continues to be.

Eta fixing my numbers at the nursijg home because the news just gave them again.

Just read through the corona virus thread and came up with a couple ideas of things that might help with our trip starting this weekend.

First, I booked this trip through AA with the throwaway rental car. I was planning to skip the car and take DME. Now I’m wondering if I may want to use the rental car and pay the parking at the resort charge in order to avoid riding the buses. Only thing is, I didn’t put down rental pick up and drop off times that would be accurate for us. Anyone know if that could be fixed?

Second, I’m considering using my Amex gold airline credit for the boarding upgrade at the gate (SW) to get on early to clean our area. Not totally sure if this is that necessary (could still clean with an average boarding position) but it might help and also would help to be first off the plane after landing. My SW Priority anniversary is 3/4 and statement closes 3/15. Our flight down is 3/15. So I’m guessing on the way down we won’t have our 4 free upgrades yet. Maybe on the way back 3/18?

A lot of cruises are still sailing without problems, and I'd still sail, but I wonder what the lack of workers at the port is about. That's a whole new problem.
They have traced 3 of the confirmed cases to Port Everglades, specifically the company / area that Princess uses. Between those employees being off work, a lot of their co-workers are in self isolation, thus the shortage of workers.

Stay safe!

Measures to avoid any kind of transmission are in full force at our club. Staff member holding the door open, sanitizer / wipes everywhere. Signs warning of the virus and instructions on how to prevent it (no touching face, hand washing / sanitizing, wiping down all equipment after usage) are posted every 15 feet. Fruit has been put out of reach of members (must be handed to you by a staff member) and I understand they will be removing the self-serve coffee as well (so people don't touch the pull-down spouts). Also a 15 minute time between classes has been implemented so all weights, mats and other equipment can be thoroughly wiped down. They are not taking any chances.
