our first 5 nights were at the Marriott Kauai Beach Club in an oceanfront 2 bedroom. The property is starting to show its age a bit, but honesty it was perfect for our family! We loved being able to sit on our balcony in the mornings and watch the ocean and the pools and beach were great for our kids. We are now up at the North Shore at the Wyndham Bali Hai. Not my favorite place - we had booked the Hyatt in Poipu which is one of my favorite properties, but my BIl decided to join us last minute so we needed a 2 bedroom. I do love the North Shore. Hanalei is the perfect beach town and Anini Beach is one of my favorite beaches Anywhere
Our favorite excursion has beena Zodiac Boat tour up the Napali Coast with Kauai Sea Tours. The zodiac raft is so much fun and we saw turtles, whales, and so many dolphins right off the boat.
it has been such a great trip and we never could have come at Christmastime without points!
Tomorrow is our last day on Kauai then we head to Aulani!

This is fantastic to read. My family loves Kauai. I was actually just looking at the Marriott Beach Club yesterday for a possible 5 night stay. It looks like a fairly good value. For now we’re heading to the Hyatt Grand Kauai next October! Can’t wait and your post makes me even more excited 😊

No experience with trampolines because I avoid taking my kids, but I would agree on the bouncy places. My kids have had "run ins" and accidents with other children at bouncy houses even with me watching them. (Keep in mind adults cannot go in with them at most places.) The difference between a 2 year old and a 5 year old is still pretty great, and 5 year olds don't always know to watch for the little ones especially when they're having so much fun bouncing around.
My son was hurt at a birthday party of same age kids. Yes, the adults can’t go in/up on those things. He slid down and another kid was at the bottom. You can see where I’m going...

I do hope this all works out for you. I’m hopeful you’ll at least get the $25 membership credit.

So all this pool information is news to me. We’re in Arizona and both our kids were born in August. Ummm...we took our babies in the pool by around 2 weeks of age, daily. We also have a salt water pool, and in August it’s naturally sitting around 90-95 degrees. It never occurred to me we shouldn’t take the babies in the pool, and my OB/Pediatricians’ certainly never cautioned us against it. My babies seemed to always like floating around in our arms out there. And well, here we are 12 years later and my kids SEEM ok 😂
Haha that makes me feel better. Everything I read talked about the temp being too cold but we live in Florida so our pool will be plenty warm in June-August. I was planning on taking him in the pool almost every day at least for ten minutes or so just to float him on his back and get used to the water

Food - I'm estimating (high I hope) needing $1200-1500 total. I have $1000 in gift cards saved, and we'll probably use them mostly for food. Does anyone know if I have to pay with my Disney Visa to get the 10% discount at participating restaurants? Can I just show it? The discount + gift card savings would be a pretty good chunk off the inflated Disney dining prices.
In my experience, no, can't just show it anymore - but, can't hurt to ask!

Looking forward to reading about your planning for this trip. This is my ultimate bucket list trip.

I am currently exploring the Hyatt and Lindblad partnership. It would cost less URs transferred to Hyatt to book the trip than it does to redeem URs via CSR UR portal assuming that one can redeem URs for this expedition.

That’s what I was hoping. It will be really bad if mine doesn’t credit since it went on the wrong card and won’t get the other offer. Essentially $25 for a membership I didn’t need and regular Sam’s price for a Disney GC (which is way more than I usually pay) :(
Sam's will refund the membership fee if you're not satisfied with it. So if you don't get your credit you can cancel with refund.

Disney GC are members only pricing so once you saw the discount, sounds like you were unsatisfied to continue the membership if you won't use it for other things.

We are headed to the Grand Hyatt Kauai in July. Can't wait, we've never been to HI before but it all looks beautiful!

The number of things I can’t teach my kid...
He asks to be homeschooled but won’t listen to anything I try to teach him.

Yes, youngest DD tried to convince me earlier today that she should be homeschooled...um, no a hard pass here. She won't listen to me and one of us ends up in tears just doing math homework. Hats off to those that can homeschool!

Drug DH out to target and walmart today to restock on gift wrap supplies. $30 later and we have 10 rolls of wrap (needed non christmassy but I blame DH for sneaking in 4 rolls of shiny christmas wrap), bows in colors other than red and green, some assorted sizes of boxes (we had lots of shirt boxes and no other sizes), some non christmassy gift bags, and gift tags that I didnt actually need... oops! Oh well, at least I can sleep next holiday season knowing DH isnt going to go buy a $10 roll of gift wrap which has happened in the past 😱 Oh and some candy... kisses are mils favorite and they were $1 a bag at target so grabbed a few.
I've gotten to where I only use Hobby Lobby wrapping paper for Christmas. It's great quality and so much paper in one role! I got 4 rolls the day after Christmas, which will probably last me at least 2 years...
Really similar to you as well. Finished up SW Perf today and about halfway thru SW Premier.
My SW biz sub is pending! Unfortunately I have to wait till Feb 11th or so to apply for the "regular" sw biz card so that it will be 24 months from the last sub on that card.

We are still homeless for part of our stay taking dd down to Orlando. Hoping for some magic like yours!!!
PM me if you need a back up option :)
Me too, I'm assuming that's good :) I applied for the SW on the flight back from FL yesterday. I called this AM and got a 2 week message.

This will sound sort of strange but I’ve never really job hunted before. Like...I wanted to answer this question and I’m like ummm not sure you’d describe what I did as a job hunt lol 🤣
@SouthFayetteFan - what's your profession/job?

@amalone1013 are you looking to just track jobs you applied to? Or track target companies and opportunities? For jobs applied I usually put: company, title, job ID, date applied, and contacts (hiring manager, someone I know there to network with), and a notes section for updates.

If you are in the market, make sure your linkedin profile is updated and you can mark yourself as open to be contacted by recruiters. That's how I got 2 of my last 4 jobs. The other 2 were networking. Actually, the 2 before that was networking too!

I do market research, and the type of role I have is more commonly found in very large organizations. So my advice is definitely coming from a corporate perspective

Playing catch up here and skimming through posts. I posted more pics on the hotel thread for Baker's Cay in Key Largo HERE

2020 Goals

Secure flights and accommodations to Africa for an end of year trip with points. Originally was planning to use AA miles but I will be waiting until the dust settles with all the AA shut down stuff and hopefully come out unscathed. At this juncture I have no plans to touch anything AA related.

Maximize UR earning and MR earning and keep better track of my AOs.

Get under 5/24 for the first time since 2012 and pick up the CIP, United business and Hyatt cards

Begin planning how to visit the Galapagos and not pay real money for it.

Hit up a few bank bonuses for the year.

Begin accumulating Alaska miles again.

Pick up some cash back business cards and diversify the points portfolio.

Work on gathering points and miles needed for airfare to visit Dubai and Maldives again for 2023.

I love your goals. We can't even decide what's next in theory, so I can't even start to work on the points. Africa is on the list (but less likely than some other options) so I'd love to hear what you are planning. As for the Galapagos, a friend sailed SilverSea and loved it, but it was cash and expensive. I saw that Celebrity has a very small ship out there that could perhaps be booked with points, but I would think that Lindblad would do the area better.

Thank you that’s very reassuring to hear lol. I’m just excited to get started! It’s almost like teaching but I only have to focus on one student! I even told Dh I plan to make some kind of schedule as the baby gets older to make sure we’re doing different things every day. Otherwise I could see myself getting stuck in a rut

You're going to have so much fun. I loved those preschool years so much - there is so much to see and do and learn and experience. :goodvibes

Love the Kauai Hyatt. We've spent quite a few vacations there and it never disappointed.

Haha that makes me feel better. Everything I read talked about the temp being too cold but we live in Florida so our pool will be plenty warm in June-August. I was planning on taking him in the pool almost every day at least for ten minutes or so just to float him on his back and get used to the water

If you're paying attention, you can tell when they are cold. DD loved the water but her little lips would start to turn blue (by the way this happened at swim team practices when she was under 10 also, so it's not something scary) and we could tell it was time to warm her up. I think she was at least a few months old when we first took her to a pool, but then we didn't have one in our back yard.

Happy New Year! I am new here and hoping I am following the rules, doing this right. I have read the first six sticky notes and tried to follow along with the latest strings. I am hoping to some input and feeback on what cards should I be considering. Please jump in and let me know if I missed anything critical-sorry this is so long.

Monthly Spend-We average about 9k monthly on our Chase Disney account. Gas and groceries account for around 16% of our spending. Travel in 2019 was around 27%. We also have membership to both Sam’s and Costco and do much of our shopping there much thinking this only earning us 1% versus 2% in points. This account was established in 02/17. We use this account as our main spending. I will say as much as I have used it for daily spending, I didn’t do a great job of transferring our reoccurring payments to this account until recently. Now I have everything that I can possibly have being paid out of this account. Currently, we have around $2700.00 in Disney redemption points. I also have a Capital One account that was established in July of 2015 that is my oldest account. We never use this and it has a small limit but I have kept it open to for credit reporting. Lastly, I have a Ulta card established in early 2018 I believe that I only use at Ulta and pay off immediately. The limit is $4500.00. I haven’t figured out how to earn cash back or points for mortgage or utilities yet so that is something I would love advice on. Each month, I make sure to pay the interest saving balance in full so we aren’t paying any interest ever, Typically, I try to ensure we are only report a small balance each month, no more the 30% of the available credit.
Flights and Travel: We prefer to book flights out of our closest airport in Sioux Falls, SD but I check flights out of Minneapolis and Omaha as well. Direct out of SF is difficult and can get expensive. I don’t have a preference of frequent flyer and unfortunately, I haven’t done a good job taking advantage of these programs. As a family of six, we fly together once or twice a year. I tend to fly for work another one or two times a year. Generally, we are flying on low budget airlines such as Allegiant, Spirit, Sun County, etc. Sioux Falls airport does not have SW Airline service. I travel for work once in a while and stay at Hiltons so I am a HH member at the Gold level staying 14 nights this year. I also have a handful of Hyatt points, Marriott and some for IHG.
Goals: I am hoping to learn how to maximize our cash backs and points so we can travel more often as a family with less spend. Thinking it is time to start applying to some cards and possibly close old accounts but don’t want to make a mistake that will cost me in the future? Also, we should be in a position to pay off two auto loans in the next 30 days that equal 12k. I am wondering do I wait to apply for cards until after that is reflected or do I get a card now and use Plastiq to try and maximize some cash back and points?
Trips planned: We just completed our 3rd Disney cruise the end of November 2019 and have a placeholder for 2 rooms. There are six of us. We are looking to do Alaska in May of 2021 which will be expensive but plan to book on opening day for silver in late Feb of 2020. We generally use a placeholder and book opening day to get the best deal we can but this limits how often we go. When we have planned trips to WDW, we have stayed in a suite at Art of Animation due to the suites. We have stayed off property once as well. In 2019, we traveled to California twice(one trip included four days at Disneyland), spent a week in both Wisconsin Dells and Branson, MO. Traveled to sporting events, etc.
April 2020-Trying to get to Yuma, AZ over Easter break to see the in-laws. Looking at flights to Phoenix or San Diego but haven’t booked yet. Willing to fly out of somewhere other the Sioux Falls if needed. Thinking AirBNB or VRBO for the six of us but open.
June 2020-likely will plan to be in Florida in the Orlando area as DD will be playing National VB there. Would love to plan some time at either the parks or head over to the Siesta Keys. Other travel-both our DD’s play club sports so several weekend trip to Kansas City, Omaha, Wisconsin Dells, Denver, Louisville and Black Hills, SD. We are family of six with four kids ranging ages 18,16,13 and 11. For some of the sporting activities, only a few of us travel for the weekend. For hotel stays, we generally end up to two rooms or a two-bedroom suite.
Welcome!! I am continually behind, which happens quite easily on this thread. I'm sure some of your questions have been answered already, but looks like you're are in the right place. Glad you found us and introduced yourself :-)

Ah okay I probably won’t do it then. Thanks for your experience. If it’s more of a social thing I have my gym for that. I just didn’t know how beneficial it is for the babies. I’m just hoping to find some kind of social setting for our baby

My thought when I read this is you don’t need a social setting; it is a baby so you guys and your cats is enough! With my girls the cats were seriously the best socialization (and encouragement to crawl). If you want to do something to get out for you when he is born then do it, but seriously a baby will just need your love.

My AA booking is not linking to MDE :(

Call Disney Wholesale. I called them and told them check in date and resort and she found the number I needed within a minute. I don’t have the number now but it might be on dischurners or pm me and I can give it to you tomorrow (I have it in a binder at work).

Nope, I thought it was a pretty good deal. I knew when we bought it that we were going to want to go back to Orlando again, so why not🤷‍♀️ I have no problem saying no repeatedly during the presentation.
That resort has been on my short list to try to check out. Mention Timeshare Users Group and you might even get excused early.

I’ve done Gymboree for 2 years with my toddler. I think its fun and social for the babies! I’m not a stay at home mom but my husband and I have flexible schedules so we enjoy going. There is another brand called Little Gym and I felt like that one helped more with motor milestones and such. I plan on enrolling our new guy after flu season!
We did both Little Gym and Gymboree when our girls were little. By the time my boys came along, we were 'over socialized' and needed no help there lol. I also preferred Little Gym. It was a mix of working on gross motor and social and just very well done. Wow, realizing how long ago that was for me....:(
