Rosemary is a beautiful name!! :flower1:

We bought a few points to cover our week in DC last Jan, but I've never really found it cost effective to buy them. What are your dates? I'm bored and would be happy to help plan someone else's trip, especially since I've already accounted for every hour of leave DH earns for the foreseeable future. :rolleyes1
We are there April 14-19. Not wanting to rent a car. We have 280,000 Hilton points but everything I see is 60,000 points a night and we need two rooms.
We have some Amex points we could transfer but wouldn't want to use them all.
I obviously didn't plan well enough ahead or we would have many more points and made reservations earlier 🤦.

I just didn’t realize it was still in theaters somewhere since it’s out on dvd. Our movie today is $5.99 so not too bad
MOVIES ARE $6?! WHAT?!

My mind is blown. The cheapest matinee you can get in my area of Podunk, CA is $12- and that’s if you roll the dice and don’t buy tickets online. (Btw you don’t want to roll those dice as the theater is like 20 mins away so matinee tickets are $13.75 after the “online service” fees because... uh... computers don’t work cheap these days? 🙄)

It’s not like you’ve been distracted with anything more important! :D

Compare the dates you would need to use points on vs best cash price for the same dates. If it’s cheaper buy points, if not go cash. EXCEPT- is there the potential this trip will be cancelled or changed? If so I’d much rather have the cash refunded than the points refunded given HH deval rate. OH- Also make sure to check Chase and Amex offers for anything that might work at the hotel.

At the end it might work out better to gamble the hotel will let you keep the same rooms with a half points booking/half cash booking.

Ever since we canceled our flight to Shanghai for my 40th birthday in March I have been stressing trying to figure out where I wanted to go! Today I finally booked most of my trip. We are flying into Guatamala and visiting Antigua and Lake Atitlan then flying to Nicaragua and on to Little Corn Island for some beach time.
I was able to use my Delta points for most of our flights to try and take advantage of my matched Platinum Medallion status and hopefully get a few upgrades (already upgraded to comfort plus!)
I need to transfer some URs to United for our GUA-MGA flight but Chase site said I (well DH) needs to call so I thought I would try again tomorrow and see if It will go through.
I’m using Hyatt points for El Convento Boutique hotel in Antigua and used URs to splurge for Yemaya Island Hideaway on Little Corn. Still looking for somewhere on Lake Atitlan. Maybe La Fortuna or Lush?
I am so excited for these places and if anyone has any travel tips let me know!

Definitely limited options, but I think you've called it exactly right. You'd have to stay way out to get anything under 60k, and very few cheaper options for other dates either. The good news is there are several excellent options among the 60k hotels (including our favorites Embassy and Homewood Suites, free breakfast = only paying for 1 big meal per day!). Assuming you get 5th night free on each, you are looking at needing 480k:

280k Hilton points
+$800 for 80k + 80k purchased points
+40k points transferred in from Amex or wherever.

Hhonors allows pooling, so be sure you don't have anyone else who can pool/transfer/donate points. Then celebrate. :dogdance: $800 is a great deal for 10 hotel nights in downtown DC! Yes, you probably could have done it differently in hindsight, but you've been kinda busy lately, so give yourself a break!

We stayed at the Homewood DC Convention Center. Great breakfast and evening reception. Convenient location for Lyft, but a little too far to walk in the cold when we were there. Your weather should be better, so as long as your family doesn't mind a long walk home, it is doable. We all loved DC (and free tours by foot!) and would be happy to go back. Hope your family has a wonderful trip!

When we lived in Iowa we went to Marcus theaters. They had $5 movies all the time with free popcorn. And unlike AMC, they never started a movie late. Every single movie we’ve gone to at this AMC theater has started late. It’s so frustrating since the previews already take 20 minutes

Lots of travel planning today. Finally finished up tonight.
Almost lost it this morning when I called to use my Citi TY points to get Disneyland tickets. Over 20 minutes and the agent couldn’t find anything. She was super nice and apologetic she couldn’t find it, said she’d seen tickets before. She tried calling the Cruise & Tours dept but couldn’t get through. After that, I vaguely remembered seeing someone mention Cruise Department, so called back and finally got connected to them. The Cruise & Tours rep immediately said sure and asked exactly which tickets I needed. Long story short, got 2 Disneyland 5 day Hoppers with Max Pass for $470 or 37,600 TYP each (used 75,200 TYP total) Rep also confirmed they still sell WDW tix as well so I’ll be saving the rest of my TYP for those.
Tonight I used URs thru the portal to book a jazz brunch and get a 4 activity Flex Pass for our spring break trip to NOLA.

Ahhh, TY points! I may have to try this eventually. Thanks for letting us know you can still use them for tickets.

Are WDW tix available through them too? I’ve never had a card for TY points, but am always looking for other currencies for Disney tix!

I'm still waiting for my FNC after receiving one of those emails on 11/4/19. 90 days and counting...

It's always interesting to note that Amex takes 8-10 weeks and Chase gives it to you on your anniversary.
My Amex Biz 35K took 61 days and my Amex 50k Brilliant took 72 days.
