Yeah. She just has no management skills. And no management experience. All of our current department leadership is like that, no experience/skills and they are definitely NOT naturally born managers.

:rotfl:

I used to have this over my computer

And I had these on the bulletin board at my old job:

If I could run this on a loop all day I would:

This is why I LOVE working from home -- I don't have to deal with that kind of nonsense! I don't really have a boss (since I work as a consultant), but my in-charge at the company I consult to will sometimes say "let me educate you about...." which means that she thinks I've made a mistake. I'll often say, "just tell me what mistake you think I've made haha" because more often than not she hasn't studied all the details about the project I'm working on.

Hope your day gets better :)

This is great! I sent a secure message but haven't heard anything from them yet. My first statement posted, but I only received the 50k. Maybe next statement? Or perhaps I should send another message. Hmmm.
You are exactly where I am lol. I suspect we app'ed at about the same time and sent messages at about the same time. My Barclay's response is just that they have sent it to be reviewed. Nothing else in the way of a response. Others have posted they never heard back but the miles just appeared on the following statement. I'm not sure whether to ask again or just sit tight :confused3

Remembered one other question the Barclays rep asked me before approving my Aviator Biz app yesterday, in case anyone else gets a similar call and wants to be prepared. He asked how I pay myself from my business, and then offered up “profits” as an example, so I confirmed I pay myself out of my business’ profits. That was right before we went on to chat about my personal income and what I do for my main job. The positive take away from all of this for those still cautious about applying for biz cards with a “business” is that the Barclays rep couldn’t care less that eBay selling is a side business for me. And nor did the Amex rep who called to give me a pep talk about my Amex Biz Plat the other day, lol.

On the issue of AU’s and people not getting difference sometimes even if know not joint accounts...my best example are my parents. As much as I wish they would let me help them they won’t. For the last two years I have been telling my mom she should get some card accounts in her name. For some reason she has had this mental block and figured she has a card in her name after all “it is printed right on there.” They won’t listen to the extent that despite me sending them CSR referrals they decided to just pay foreign transaction fees when in Europe. Of course a couple weeks ago my mom announced that maybe I was right “she got a card in her own name!” Turns out that she was walking through the airport and signed up for the Delta Gold. Her first Amex. And she was one of those people signing up in the airport without a referral (which she could have got from my Dad’s card if not from me), one of the worst possible Delta cards, at the worst possible time (no increased bonus). My sweet husband has tried to console me that it isn’t personal and he would bet alcohol was involved...but I am still unduly upset. Those lost miles...the lost Platicorn possibilities! :(

So this, with everyone else's replies, is an interesting insight into the definition of "card", as in, 'card in your name'. She's not wrong - she's got a card and it has her name on it - but definitely not the same sentiment we are discussing. I totally appreciate people sharing because it's just not how I ever thought of it.

I also appreciate the upset of watching ill-advised CC moves. I'll be having a talk with BIL soon about some better card choices after he whipped out the Disney card to pay for his half of the restaurant bill - even after mentioning all the crazy things we have planned with points and him being interested. (Literally he asked if I'd tell him what I did for our Alaska trip in progress while he's pulling out the Disney card. I almost asked to see what else he had in there...)
He's got another Disney trip planned for next year so out comes the Disney card, which is better than nothing, but I know what those guys spend... I'm crying inside for all the lost points  He's a former extreme couponer type, didn't pay for gas for years (thanks to Giant Eagle fuel points on GC purchases) so he appreciates a good deal so it's hard to fathom his odd CC collection. His wife even has a business and I suspect doesn't have any biz cards either. I'm 50/50 on if it'll sink in and they do something. I suspect he might get at least one but they're both busy so a lot of the "extra work" involved in stuff like this has fallen by the wayside.

But in happier news, the Platicorn is still possible for your mom, DP yesterday that someone with a few AmEx's still pulled it up on cardmatch.

I was born and raised in Toronto -- let me know if you need any tips on restaurants / things to do / areas to visit / where to shop (Yorkdale or Yorkville depending on your budget!)! LOVE LOVE LOVE Toronto -- going back in a few weeks and can't wait!!

My husband is from Toronto and we will be going for his brother's university convocation as well as spending time with his parents. We are planning to go to the Science Centre and possibly the zoo. I would love any other recommendations, especially anything good with a kid under 2.

So those that use Samsung pay, do you do anything with the reward points you've earned since they took away the reward cards you could get that were like Visas?

@Albort?

Next statement, likely.

We have an upcoming week long trip to Toronto in mid-June. So far, we have the ROM and Ripleys Aquarium planned. We also plan to revisit Niagara Falls.

Spend $30k on the Chase Bonvoy card for 2 nights in a cat 4. Spend $30k on the Chase British Airways card and get a companion ticket for an international first class flight. Hmmm lemme think about this :scratchin :teacher: Yeah I’m gonna go with no. They’ve totally jumped the shark. I’d be game for nights in a Cat 8 property. One would get a better return using a 2% cash back card.

Haha, I was getting ready to say... two week trip to Dubai and Maldives is a budget trip? Must be a credit card churner... :rotfl:

:D I only wish it was 2 weeks. One week and one day. Next time we do this it’s gonna be 2 weeks!

So funny that we will both be in Toronto in June. We are at the Doubletree Downtown for one night, then the Sheraton On the Falls in Niagara. Back to Toronto at the Hyatt Regency. All hotels booked on points which allowed us to spend money on activities such as the Royal Ontario Museum and Ripley's Aquarium. We may also do the Toronto Islands.

We might be there at the same time. I am really hoping for some nice weather. I always think it is crazy that it never gets much past 70 in August. I don't think I have been there in June though.

We were there in June 2016 and the weather in June was nice. 70's and 80's if I recall. Let me know how the science center and zoo are. My kids are older than your daughter but we may just go another trip if you report back that it's decent. My husband loves Canada and wants to move there lol.

Glad the USD is so strong against the Canadian dollar. Makes our money stretch further.

That sounds more like Hyatt to me.

I think I'm inclined to agree with DoC since Chase does have a new Marriott card coming out soon. They probably just cribbed the promo from the Hyatt card to make it easy and consistent. However, since Marriott wanted to get away from categories (although kept them :confused3) I'm not sure why it'd be promoted that way.

Not a great offer for Marriott though, since Cat 4 hotels can have nightly rates as low as $150, that'd be a 1% earn rate. Worse if you used it at a Cat 1/2. Again you'd have to have a decent high priced spot in mind that happens to be low on the category tier, and even then I'm not sure it'd be worth 15k in spend for a one night cert. (even for MSers)

What I saw didn't mention the 30K/45K. I still have the image of the email open, didn't realize that until now:
Spend just $15,000 on your Hotel Rewards Credit Card during your Cardmember anniversary year and you'll earn:
1 extra free night [at any Category 4 for being a Hotel Rewards Cardholder ($250 value)] + Up to 3 free nights [at any Category 1 hotel from the points you earn on purchases ($250 value)]

So really, my email says 1 free night up to Cat 4 and you can use the points you earn on up to 3 free nights at Cat 1.

CIP#2 Approved!
:cheer2: Congratulations:cheer2:

Me too! Logged in this morning and the beautiful third business card was on my login page!

Looks like a group of Toronto travelers this year. I'll be following along on the conversations. I am tentatively planning a trip in October. There is a work conference at the end of Oct and might go and tack on a few days of vacation. Was planning to drive down to Niagara Falls as I have never been. Looking for any other solo type activities.

What is the weather like at the end of October?

We have actually been to both the Science Centre and zoo before and loved both. When we first started dating, I went to Toronto and we bought the City Pass so that we could do sightseeing. There were tons of things on the City Pass that my husband had never done, such as Casa Loma and the zoo. The zoo is huge though and I know that we won't get through it all, especially with our daughter in tow but I am looking forward to going again. And the Science Centre supposedly has a big section just for smaller kids which I think will be nice for her.
