My sister has the Marriott Reward cc that she has had for years. She likes it and uses the points when she goes to DC to visit her daughter at Georgetown U. I told her about the new Marriott Bonvoy but she is not sure if she can get it since she already has a Marriott CC. Does anyone know if she can get both? She has a very high credit score.

I probably wouldn’t wash it. I don’t sew clothes but I do a lot of window treatments. I never wash that fabric.

I wash anything that may get washed. So when I've done window treatments using cotton, not actual drapery fabric I've washed it first. There's definitely certain types of fabrics that you wouldn't wash first but most of what I do is pillow cases and then random things when I feel adventurous like a skirt or apron's for shower gifts (that's because I was annoyed my aunt sent the invite when she knew I wouldn't go because I was in NC and they were in MI. So they each got an apron and a cookbook I found on clearance so it was cheap).

My mom was a master seamstress and I learned a few of her tricks (it's a nice skill to have once in a while!). What kind of fabric are you using (cotton, polyester, a blend, etc.)? What are the colours in the fabric? Are you reinforcing the fabric (that would be important for ears)? Generally I'd say you'd be fine not washing first, but if there's red in the fabric and it's 100% cotton, you might want to to be safe.

Some fabrics have a lot of sizing (starch-like stiffener) added to it. I find that I need to wash those usually cotton-based fabrics before using them, even in a non-clothing way, so that they "behave" properly.

This is exactly what I do. I manage all of my DH's online accounts for his Chase and Amex cards (he doesn't even know his user names and passwords, lol) so I can generate referral links when needed and can go into his accounts to check on charges, CLs, etc. Makes it so much easier, especially when I can SM from his account to try to resolve issues and avoid having him have to call. He was a good sport about it tonight though....

We always tell each other the password and they usually end up being close or the same as the rest of our accounts. We share our finances though and don’t have any separate accounts

Well that’s why I was so confused at first because there wasn’t any bad weather anywhere he would be going to or where the plane was coming from. I’m not sure when he found out that it was a maintenance issue

Curious why because the only way they'd get wet is if it rained and if it was going to I'd either put them in my bag or not wear them. There's a dark pink that will be sewed to a green and a blue that's already been washed. Unless gluing on white felt to the pink would make it bleed into the pink. They're just cottons and it's less than 1/4 of a yard each and I don't have anything else to wash at the moment so...

Whatever fabric I figure out to use on the headband I'll wash for sure.

Hadn't thought about that part. But it also means I have to wait until I have stuff to wash with the fabric.

Absolutely. Do you mean her getting the AMEX Bonvoy or Chase? Either way; she needs to cancel her existing card and then open up the new one.

Speaking of the plural "you", how many people here say "you guys"? I don't know if it's because I'm from CA, or Gen X, or what, but I just can't stop myself. Last week at work I was leading a bunch of retired principals and I heard myself repeatedly calling them "you guys" and felt so embarrassed when I realized, but how else is a Californian supposed to convey that plural you??

Some fabrics have a lot of sizing (starch-like stiffener) added to it. I find that I need to wash those usually cotton-based fabrics before using them, even in a non-clothing way, so that they "behave" properly.

So up until (very) recently, like as of two weeks ago, I made my living sewing costumes. It's not a cardinal sin not to pre-wash your fabric unless, as @LuckyMamaInDE said, your fabric has some weird sizing applied that you want to get rid of. Washing might soften up the fibers, which would help the circles of your ears lie smoother when you bag them out (sew inside-out and then turn). Another concern is if you're worried about colors bleeding over time or when they get wet. You should always press before you cut though! You just get a nicer result. "Make it flat n' sexy" is my motto!

How much yardage are we talking? If it's a small piece you can just soak it in some hot water with a little Dawn, swish it around until it's thoroughly soaked, rinse, roll it in a towel to soak up most of the water, and then iron it dry. That's what I do with twill or Prussian tape that needed to be washed before I work with it, but for one reason or another I can't run it through the machine.


Sidenote: I am actually teaching a "Project Runway" - style workshop this week and next to a small class of high schoolers. They are all very enthusiastic but most have zero sewing experience. I'm learning that it's surprisingly hard to slow down and break down stuff like "how to thread a needle" and "how to tie a knot" step by step!

I've seen the trailer a few times and I don't think that's a spoiler. They show her tearing all the stuff down and then I forget if she finds a piece of her drawing or the animals show her. But I thought the trailer made it obvious something like that happens.

DW decided that she would rather not go to Japan for our 10yr anniversary and be out of the country away from the kids as our youngest would only be 4yo. Yes to both! I already booked 6 nights at Hard Rock with most of my CIP bonus points - DH is a musician so of course we HAD to stay there. He gets antsy when he is away from a bass guitar for too long. And I was waiting until the second Sapphire bonus posted to get our tickets, which worked out great since Universal just announced a buy 2 days, get 3 free ticket promo. We'll be doing the 3-park, park to park passes since we didn't get to do Volcano Bay last time.
