Hi. I am normally a lurker and currently play the game very casually. I know I have seen the answer to my question somewhere but this thread flies far too fast for me to find it!
I am applying for the Marriott bonvoy business card and the first field is business name which also populates into the name on card field. If it’s a small, casual business do I just put my name in this field? I know to use my SS#.
Thanks for the help!

Just got the same thing for my dog... I mean, son. I'd like to know the answer too.
I read through the T&C and I didn’t see lifetime language. But I admit to losing focus fast with stuff like that. Did see anything?

Yes! Use your name as name of biz and SSN.

Yes just keep all the info the same as your personal info. Same name, SS#, sole proprietor

I think we’re gonna head to sam’s Club tonight and try out this scan and go phenomenon. Hopefully it triggers the $45. Actually now that I think about it you have to spend $50 for the Amex deal and it has to be online.... how am I gonna make that work

I signed up instore at Sam's and the customer service person told me that the $45 wouldn't trigger for 72 hours. So, I left and went back a few days later and spent enough to trigger the $45. I did not bother with downloading the scan and go as I doubt I'll be buying much there. The Sam's is a few miles further than Costco and I do a lot at Costco. I did pick up some different items at Sam's and they are okay, but I'm mostly interested in possible discounted gift cards.

Don't worry the snow will change to rain. Don't worry, it won't accumulate, just a trace. Don't worry it's well above freezing. Ha! It's above freezing, snowing and sticking to everything but the road/driveways. Whatever weather station my phone picks up on for my city is obviously in the valley at sea level because it says it's raining, well at 500 ft where I am it's snow.

I know it's way worse for many of you, but this much snow and cold isn't normal for us. We're at like 34 days in a row below normal and this is after having a warmer January. I live here because it's not supposed to snow this much or get too cold. I need to go somewhere and thaw out.
I’m done with snow too! It’s March - I’m beginning to think that groundhog had no idea what he was doing this year. Lol!

I didn't see anything either. Which wouldn't that mean it should be used as a second card after getting one personal card already?

Now that Venmo is no longer 3x on CIP, is there another card that would earn more than 1x?

I would think CIU or CFU since they're 1.5x on everything.

We are like at 51" of snow so far with another 3~5" expected overnight tonight and then a weekend of snow and freezing rain ahead. I am so ready for this to be over seeing how we might have piles of snow into May.

Does anyone remember the rules for the no fee arrival redemptions? I think it starts at $25, but does it have to be in $25 increments?

Nope, can’t do 11k. Mostly one at a time, we don’t have that much spend and I’m just not into MSing.
It’s a stretch for us but here’s my strategy:
  • Obviously our regular organic spend
  • Meet MSR and pay ahead on my cable for the year with CIC for 5x URs
  • County property taxes are due (only $375 though)
  • Annual homeowners will be due soon
  • 6mo Auto insurance will be due soon
  • Previously paid 6mo ahead on all utilities. Can pay the remainder of the year in a couple months.
  • Will owe something on federal, state, and local taxes.
That should all take care of $8k-$9k of the spend. The rest could be handled with buying some gift cards or some other expenses that I can’t anticipate at this point. It’s definitely the max of where I’d want to be on total MSR as I’m not one to do MS either.

I have a bit of an OT question; but it relates to travel so I'm hoping this group of well seasoned expert travels can lend of levity to a discussion in our household. If too OT, I can delete it.

As with all of you, we are trying to find more and better ways to maximize travel opportunities. The last few years have been great and this group has really allowed us to take some trips we would never have without you. I'm planning more and more exotic trips all the time and finding ways to get there efficiently using points and tips from this thread. But.... we are debating sending DS12 to a private school for 7th grade next year and through high school. Our local schools are good, better than average, used to be top notch but falling over the last 10-15 years. The private school has some social and intangible values we are high on as well as being one of the top education programs. But, it's not cheap and it is a much more rigorous program study and homework wise.

Now the question: this year we took the kids DS12 and DD8 out of school for a week in January for a cruise. No problem, DS12 caught up after a few hours of homework. DD9 had nothing to catch up. Next year I'm concerned that may not be so easy. We have always traveled during school sessions due in large part to the much lower costs (lower crowds help too). Advice from those of you with older kids? At what age do you think it's too much to take kids out of school for travel? And, how hard (or easy) is it to utilize all these travel award points programs to travel during the peak seasons of summer, winter break, spring break? Looking at cruise prices and they are at least 50% more for those weeks. It dosn't help that Chase UR cannot be used for DCL anymore - buggers.

Sorry again for OT.

I have 3 in a private school - 6, 9, and 10th grades - and I don’t think I would pull them out for an extended period. They might miss a day or two but no more, particularly since their school is strict about test schedules and it’s a pain to reschedule tests they miss. I think a lot will depend on how the school views absences, missed tests, and missed class work plus the type of child your kid is regarding anxiety about school (mine are all different). Besides, it always seems that if I plan for them to miss school, there’s always SOMETHING that can’t be missed that wasn’t put on the school schedule early enough - science fair, pin ceremony, awards ceremony, band concert, Christmas formal, etc. Can you tell I’ve had to cancel plans because of this stuff???!!>:(
