How old Lain?

If you're going to get one, get the actual carry-on. Or honestly, even the big carry-on. Not much bigger, it's 4 wheels so moves about the same w/ adjustable heigh handle, but they can use it for years and years. Whereas the kids is done with after they outgrow it.

How’s the bigger carry on with international travel? I went with the regular one because I was worried about it fitting

Yeah, I was leaning towards the actual carry-on. I saw a pair of toddlers at SNA with their own kid’s carry-ons and those things are small — cute, but small. My kiddo just turned 6 and tends to overpack. She’s fine handling our Tumi international carry-ons, and wants her own luggage, but it has to be pink.
I am cheap haha. I have an away, but I bought my son this amazon basics suitcase. He wanted blue and a lock lol. I considered the away kids, but it was the size of the lightening McQueen target suitcase we were upgrading from.

He’s 7 now, I think once he reaches the teen years I’ll get him something higher quality

AmazonBasics Hardside Spinner Travel Luggage Suitcase - 24 Inch, Navy Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071VG57FP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_sMaEDbRDYP6QR

It’s actually very nice. The zipper on the away is more sturdy and it has the battery which this does not,

So I think it’s more of an issue in like easy jet Ryan air type flights. My brother in law flew to japan with his bigger carry on and had no issues. They also went to Europe on aer lingus with no issues.

I think it’s fine on the jumbo jet type flights. More of an issue on the small regional flights.

Oops. Guess I should just order one of the bigger ones in a pretty color now lol

If I cancel the Hilton AMEX Ascend card, do I lose Gold Status immediately? Or if I have a trip a few months later, would I still have it for that trip?

Thanks!

My DD has her own carry on, something similar to this, but with a pink trim instead of aqua. The spinners make it really easy for her to handle it herself which she insists on doing. It is smaller in size, but we find it sufficient for summer trips with mostly tshirts and shorts. Anything extra just goes in our checked luggage.

Think I'm doing this right from what I learned here:

Bought $250 Happy Guy GC at Giant grocery during 8x bonus with a CC that earns 3x at grocery.
Payed for $250 Disney GC with Happy Guy GC.
Apply Disney GCs toward DVC Dues (but only when I have enuf GCs for the remainder of the year, a requirement I believe)

$ 7.50 savings on 3% grocery rewards card (some day I'll have a 6% rewards card)
$ 30.00 savings on fuel rewards ($2/gallon discount from 8x GC bonus at grocery)
15% discount
Great job! But it is even better! If you have your dues set up to come out of an account monthly, you can apply whatever you have in gift cards. Then it will tell you what month and amount you are paid up to. So if you pay January until June on line with your gift cards, your next payment will not be due until July and you can pay with more gift cards as you earn them.

Or, if you are paying monthly for the rest of this year, you should be able to make a payment with whatever amount you have.

I paid all of mine in Dec 2018 for the whole of 2019, so I'm not sure if anything has changed. But I do know that when I paid, I could have stopped at any time and monthly payments would continue once what I had applied had been used up.

We love the Amazon Basics but TSA has managed to break every single zipper on the suitcase.

Yes. At least with the Plat, you’re unenrolled in status usually within a day or two.

If you want to keep the Ascend/Surpass for status, you could pay the AF and keep it for your trip, then downgrade the Ascend to the no fee Hilton Honors card after your trip for a prorated refund of the AF.

However, I’ll give the same warning as I did this morning. If you’ve never had the Hilton Honors no fee card, and you PC to it, then you won’t be able to get the SUB on it if you later want to sign up for the no fee card separately.

Ok you got me curious....do you mean the exhibit at Moma? How extensive is this? I think I may need to go see this....(the depths of these paintings is wonderful)

It's just there at the MOMA and I didn't realize it until this year. There were 2 paintings I really wanted to see, and I've seen them both this summer (Starry Night and The Scream). Starry Night was even prettier in person, and the yellows much nicer than they show in any of the photos I've seen.

2. There are a number of reasons you might want the resort credit even if you are paying with points. When we go for our third visit to TDS/TDL the Hilton Tokyo Bay will be a key strategy for us and so will the Aspire. DH and I each have the card and plan to use our combined free weekend nights. We will use points for other nights. The two $250 resort credits will be used for either paying for another night and/or charging Park tickets to the room so I don’t pay OOP for the park admission. Hope that helps.

Is it possible to use the resort credit for an extra night? Asking because DH is still interested in the Aspire, but I worry about using that resort credit.

I think it's just a solo piece, permanently? I've been to the Van Gough Museum in Amsterdam so I've seen a lot of his work but not this. @mmmears was there this May so hopefully she'll dip in (in between her Oslo explorations!) to confirm.

Yep, it's just there, and I had no idea. I was really happy when I found out it was so accessible. :). And it was easy walking distance from the PHNY (to add something points related into the discussion).

I have a phone problem, too, but the opposite--I hate to get rid of my current phones and have had my current one almost 5 years. I know it's only a matter of time before it has to be upgraded but I dread that, in part because it will mean I need to go through all of the photos on my phone. Which brings me to a question--does anyone know an easy way to get prints made from photos on the iphone? My current method is to email the photo to myself, download it onto my computer, then upload it to Costco or Walgreens or Shutterfly. I would be surprised if there is not some more efficient way to do it.

I think most let you upload from a phone if you access the site from your phone. I like with my android the sd card so much easier since I can pop it in my laptop.

It is. Really I could've sworn I had one at one point. UGH!
To my knowledge, the Disney Premier Visa has never had support links - and I've found that slighly odd.

Is there a reason you are keeping the Premier Visa (and potentially paying an AF to have it)? If you've had that card for over a year, you could easily downgrade it to the no AF version and BOOM you're in the support link game. I've found this to be a card that never generates support links here on this thread (because we all realize it isn't the best offer) BUT in real life lots of people want it so it works out well there for me.

TPH? We went from Victory Honda AAA (well first year squirts don't have a true AAA) to Little Ceasar's AA. I heard there are kids on the AAA LC team from as far away as Atlanta. I'm sorry but moving for my 10yo? Ummm, no! That said my kid is TRULY in hockey mecca. I had to laugh during tryouts at the parents driving 1-2 hours for their 10 yo. I know my ex wouldn't commit to that at his current age.
Little Ceasar's - 5 min from us
Compuware - 10 min from us
Belle Tire - 30 min from us
Victory Honda - 15/20 min from us
OJG (Oakland Junior Grizzlies) - 40 min from us
Honeybaked - 10 min from us

If he was on VH this year, I know their regular season play is all over the midwest. Games in Chicago, Indiana, Ohio, etc. If my daughter played up a league in soccer it'd be the same, but she's also 14, LOL.

TPH= Total Package Hockey. They are a for-profit organization and bought the Jr Predators (our club) last year, so this is the first year they are running the show. My kiddo is a 2nd year squirt and there is no AAA for his age, but next year ages up and there is a AAA Jr Predators at that point. People do travel from other states to play on that team. I don't even know how the logistics work for that...it seems insane.

Ice time is hard to come by in Nashville b/c we have only 2 rinks, and all the clubs, house leagues, high schools, adult leagues, and figure skaters have to share. A 3rd rink is supposed to open next month. It is a mess right now.

Last year there was a lot more travel, but it seems everyone wants to come to nashville for tournaments, so this year they are coming to us mostly and we only have to go to Atlanta, Grand Rapids, Detroit, and Chicago.

I'm like $200 away from MSR on Hilton Surpass, so I'll probably just pick up two fixed amount VGCs for that one. Bummer that Dosh ended for Kroger since that offset the fees for me, but I knew it would end sooner or later. Honestly I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did and they didn't shut me down lol. I was hitting it pretty hard and made back close to $75 from Dosh.

Dosh is basically dead to me. I remember dreading when that would happen and now it has. Oh well.

NEW increased offers on SW personal cards (but don't get too excited...)

Earn up to 60,000 points

  • Earn 40,000 points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.
  • Plus, earn an additional 20,000 points after you spend $12,000 on purchases in the first 12 months
  • As usual the AF is not waived here and that MSR for the full 20k is STEEP!
This is being offered on all 3 of the SW personal cards.
This offer has NOT come to support links - but that probably doesn't matter since I can't imagine many people are interested in the offer. PERHAPS this has value to somebody who can inexpensively MS the $12k spend but otherwise your return on that additional $11k spend is less than 2.7% - not great when compared to using that $11k towards 2 or 3 other new card offers.

EDIT: It appears that in-flight 50k offers still work and those are a better return for a reasonable $2k MSR. I'll post what I think are the most current in-flight links on the DISchurners news thread :D

DAMN APPLE! They came out with a purple iPhone! I'm someone who owns EVERYTHING in purple. Grrrrr. Guess I need a new card to hit a spend on, LOL. Truth be told, I'll probably keep rocking my iPhoneXs in gold in my purple sparkle case. I mean the purple phone would be in a purple case anyways.

Mint and yellow sure are pretty, but you're right they stay mostly covered up anyways.
I don't upgrade mine very often anymore, since they now cost as much as a laptop.

i got hacked... :(

700k UR --> Cash to an unknown account. :'(

Sorry about that Albort! Glad you got your points back (in a later post).

If I had Mint or something like that, would it notify me of points being used/earned?
I'm just not familiar with Mint, Betterment, YNAB? etc. to know what they do, but thinking that it would be better to look one place than to log onto every account I have.

@mmmears has inspired me to visit The Starry Night in NYC (I'm a Van Gough fan) so at some point I'll be looking at doing something similarly for PH-NYC. "Mom" was just approved for a CIC so I have a sneaking suspicion I know where "her" points are headed.

Van Gogh’s The Starry Night is part of the MoMA’s permanent collection. I first saw The Starry Night when I was in NYC for college. I took my wife (then still my girlfriend) to see it when the MoMA temporarily located to Queens during its expansion. She got as close as 3-4 inches from the canvas for a picture. And again to much larger crowds in the era of selfies and social media just a few years ago. As far as I know, it’s always on display. I don’t know that it ever goes on tour.

While you’re in NYC, pop over to the Met to view more of Van Gogh’s works. The Met has 16 Van Goghs in their collection, although a few of them are often on loan to exhibitions around the world at any given time.
