I can almost assure you your car will not be blown off the road.

I once ran an outdoor cross country meet in the middle of a tropical storm. While this storm is far more powerful, I was a scrawny little 15 year old and didn’t get blown over. Your car weighs close to 3500 lbs most likely.

That is crazy. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around that number. There have only been 2 hurricanes to make landfall in the US at that intensity - Camille in 1969 (175 mph) and the Florida Keys Labor Day Hurricane in 1935 (185+ mph).

Are there any building codes up to that number? Trump said Mar-a-lago could hold it's own but I'm not so sure because that number means some substantially high waves in addition to the wind. Flooding and barrier islands getting decimated. Everybody is hoping it turns but it's steadily heading west. @Haley -time to get yourself to Orlando.

Is it unlikely that it will turn while it's over the islands? I read on the .gov site that it was now or is close to the warmer/deeper water that intensifies a storm. It seems as if it is now it's own monster and not subject to any rules as we know them. It's going to do whatever it wants until it's inland and weakens, or veers north and out over cold water.

Agreed! DH jumped the gun on this card without fully vetting with me! We did get value out of it for the bonus, airline credit, some promos, Dell credit and Lyft credits (not 100k ), but at this point not worth it for us to renew.

DH has had his personal Amex for years and he is very emotionally attached to it. It's been Plat, Black (don't ask) and Gold over the years, but we get the most value out of it as a Gold card with the grocery and restaurant multipliers.

Just chiming in that DH can get another shot at the 100k MR Biz Plat with a no lifetime language offer. He could also open up different varieties of personal Platinum cards (Ameriprise, Charles Schwab, Morgan Stanley), subject to some conditions, that each have 60k MR SUBs (the Charles Schwab version was recently targeting clients with a 100k MR offer). Maybe check in with this thread and hold his hand next time.

Yup. I just looked at the radar and even right now it’s just hovering over top of it. Even assuming the house somehow survives, I wonder how the power grid and infrastructure will recover. My mom is supposed to go there for Christmas with my brother.

You would probably be in fairly heavy traffic, but the whole idea is that there shouldn't be that much wind the further you get away from the shore. It's definitely coming and will just get stronger as time goes by. The storm is probably going to speed up soon after it passes over the islands. Prayers for your safety, @Haley R

We are under a hurricane warning as of 11:00am. I told dd to have a shower and pack a bag. Still not 100% sure we are leaving but I'm going to pack a few things now. Plan is to take my car and put dds in the garage.

I agree 100% with you. I am not convinced it's going to turn and even if it does we will still feel a tremendous impact.

If I lived by the ocean or in a flood zone. I’d evacuate. The storm is moving so slow it’s going to drop buckets of rain. Harvey was a cat 1 and look what it did.

I don't really understand that because he also said it sustained $17 million worth of damage due to much less severe storms.

In any event, I for one am hoping it does not get hit as the people living in the vicinity will not be receiving $17 million. And, I don't think anything can hold its own against a Cat 5. I wish the thing would just blow out to sea.

The area will probably get hit and it's just a matter of what intensity at this point. They've put the evacuation plan into effect.
We have ex's sister and family living just a few miles away from there and of course that would be my DD and DS's aunt, uncle and cousins. We are praying they make it through okay.

The studio will have a microwave, which could be useful if you bring some groceries and are there for a few days. The regular room might have a little more space but also probably an extra bed that you don’t need.
