Also the younger people don’t remember life before, I remember going to islip airport and walking directly to the gate when my dad was going to a conference when I was younger. I remember airports without metal detectors and public transit without see something say something. For someone who was 7, it’s just how it’s always been, you know?

I have memories going to that same airport and waiting at the gate for my grandmother to land. I don’t think I fully understood the day and the loss though. I remember one of my first questions was if the towers were going to come back. I was obsessed with them for some reason. I was a kid and would always get excited seeing them.

A NOT so happy churning anniversary:
It was one year ago today that Chase put in place the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Sapphire Reserve 48 month rule. A sad day for all churners who were under 5/24 or striving to get under 5/24.

Related: Please Keep Up with Research and ask questions when in the midst of a LONG term strategy...
I've seen 3 instances in just the past 2 days of people on r/churning who have been working on a strategy for over a year to get back under 5/24 to pursue a CSP or CSR or MDD. Sounds great...except ALL of them missed the fact that the Sapphire rule changed to 48 months last year. And ALL of them had a CSP or CSR in 2016 or 2017 and are out of luck for another year or 2. You can't just come up with a long term strategy and then crawl under a rock. It's ok to not read everything but keep checking back OR reach out and ask questions to make sure your strategy will still work :D

There are so many unknowns with this offer, including if it will ever happen again, and if they will still offer WDW resorts in 2021. I really hope somebody books something, then cancels, so we can see how the refunded travel voucher works. (Is the voucher 2 cents per mile or 1 cent? Does it have an expiration date?)

I know, I know- be the data point you want to see. And maybe I will. I just need to find a cheap hotel and a cheap flight.
And don't book a red-eye from Vegas and unknowingly leave your family without a room the first night 😂

Thanks I’m hoping to go back home but SO has no desire to go back. He only misses the food. I miss everything lol we also need to be making a lot more money because SO is demanding an apartment that is equivalent to what we have now and that’s easily $5,000 a month in Manhattan. Queens maybe more realistic for us but depending on how far out we are and where in Manhattan the commute is a pain. SOs commute is 20 mins here and all his coworkers are closer and think that’s a long commute. In NY he easily would spend over an hour on his commute to/from Manhattan from queens lol

I understand both of your views ...it’s soo expensive in NY...and the commute is long ..
my son went to college in FL and stayed there..no state income tax etc.....my daughter never left, when to Stony Brook, her husband is ATC at Islip, they have a house in Bayport.....so torn between two places

I had been eagerly awaiting October f last year so I could churn the csr. Now I have to wait another whole year. I was 0/24 last summer after taking a 2 year break during a really bad sickness pregnancy and a infant who refused the sleep. Now I’m hovering at 4/24, getting cips

I remember watching TV...with my neighbor....when the first tower fell...we didn’t comprehend what happened....like what we thought we saw couldn’t be real

9/11 memories do tend to be regional. For some reason I took it really seriously, but lots of people out here on the West Coast just don't look back and think it was a big deal. My friends in NY, however, take it very seriously, so I end up talking with them about it. My DD was 4 at the time and has no memories of it, but I remember how eerily quiet it was in our neighborhood for a while with all of the flights shut down and people tending to stay home more.

I think "extra" is something the college kids say (DD, her friends, and my friend's kids use it). Avocado toast is just wonderful and it belongs to us all!

@Albort, if you still have info about selling off AA GCs, could you please let me know? I think I have a use for ours, but in all honesty I think it would make more sense to just sell them off.
just PM me when ur ready.

A very interesting churning trivia tidbit that people may not realize...

As far as I know, nobody has ever churned the signup bonus on the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card.
  • The leaked link came out on Monday August 15th (ugh it still hurts to type that since I missed out due to being too focused at work...)
  • The official link came out on Monday August 22nd.
  • With the addition of the 48 month rule on August 27th (and referral links with the 24 mo language stopped working about 3 weeks later), I'm not sure anybody was ever able to earn a 2nd CSR bonus.

agree it’s regional...what I find scary is the fact that some people don't think it was a big deal...

I called a few companies to see if they could come this week to trim our coconut palms (dh must've forgotten to have it done) and they just laughed. Sadly we have 3 huge ones by the pool that are loaded with coconuts. That's not going to be fun to clean up if Dorian hits and since he just left for another week or so (after being here 24 hours), that job will fall on yours truly :headache:.

Our propane company decided they won't come this week to fill the generator tank (500g) because our average usage is 80 - 100g / year and it was filled November, 2018. I don't feel like digging under the shrub where the gauge on the tank is to verify how full the tank is, so I'll leave it. Ordered 10W30 synthetic oil from Amazon to top up the oil in case it runs for over 24 hours. Will have to remember to charge up our portable charges (just in case said generator doesn't power up -- which better not happen).

Trying to mentally run through a list of what else I need to do as the weekend draws near. Will obviously wait to prep the house until Friday when the path is clearer as it takes me at 2 days (it's a lot of physical work).

I really hope Dorian spares Puerto Rico. That would be so cruel of Mother Nature if the island was hit again.

Will be interesting to see how this one develops.

@calypso726 and @tink1970 are you guys doing anything to prepare?

Well if you call heading to WDW tomorrow after work and going to the opening of SWGE on Thursday and then hopping on the Dream for a 3 day cruise on Friday preparing ... then yes :rotfl2:

PlanePrincess closed the shutters if that counts too.

You guys are all here talking about 9/11 memories and meaningful stuff and meanwhile I'm researching anniversary dates of churning milestones like CSR leaked link and 48 month rule... I really embrace this churning historian role I guess, haha!

I will say on the topic, 9/11 had a deep impact on me. Whenever that date rolls around each year, I watch a lot of the various documentaries and think of the courageous actions numerous folks in our country took to help save and protect others. It's a very somber day for me. I grew up in Pittsburgh, I was a Senior in HS at the time, I had no ties to NY or the towers, but I can't explain it, it just had a huge impact on me.

@speedyfishy - it also happens to be my mother's birthday so I understand in a small way how that could have been impactful for many years thereafter. But it's totally ok to celebrate your day!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on both! Especially WPI -- I was very impressed when we toured there.
I must say I was not a big fan of BU (got a scholarship) the school is so big and had very impersonal relationship with professors. I went to Bunker Hill community college before going to BU and I had at much better experience at BHCC than BU. Felt like I got much more from my classes and professors from BHCC.
WPI has been great and I like the smaller school and smaller classes. I am in Biochemistry and they have great programs!
Feel free to PM any questions you have!

While we're going down memory lane... How about this comment as my biggest churning facepalm moment for 2016...

...and WOAH...who is this guy bragging about being 31/24 and having no intentions of slowing down ...

EDIT: I also loved the response to that one comment: "This dude gets it. 31/24 winning!!!"

This is why this thread is so great, we’re always sharing info and strategies and reminding people of changes or new details. In a nonjudgmental way.
