I get notices every year and throw them in the trash. Maybe when I'm retired and don't have obligations like a job and kids I'll do it.

Wow...in NY, they would keep sending it and it’s against the law to ignore them. Not sure if they do it anymore but when my kids were young and I received a notice...they automatically excuse me when I send it back with documentation showing I had kids under a certain age

Guys I'm such an idiot. I just want to cry, I didn't book my companion pass and now the flight is sold out. Our trip is Saturday. I can't believe this happened. The flight from Tulsa to St. Louis is sold out. I book myself another flight for 29K points, please pray the other flight opens up. Any way to be put on the wait list?

Yeah, we prosecute people for failing to appear for jury duty lol. Usually they just get a fine, but you actually can go to jail for failing to serve, though it would have to be a little more extreme circumstances.

Good! I'm sorry but I went when called when I was active duty AND a single mom-because that's a civic duty, imho. The only time I requested deferral was when appointments to see me were 3 months out (I used to be a specialist in a an underserved specialty) and it would be more detrimental to the community as a whole if I missed work. During that time, though, I was an expert witness in many many trials so I'd like to think I was still participating in the process.
Ignoring the honor of participating in a jury is, to me, reprehensible.

Apologies for the rant but I was raised with God, Country, family as priorities and the duty to serve and these old fashioned beliefs are hard to shake.

What is done for out-of-state college students? In particular, college students whose program REQUIRES summer courses away from their home state? DS received a questionnaire recently which typically leads to jury selection. He wrote his circumstances on the form. He is not trying to get out of jury duty - it is just not practically for him to serve in NY when he is required to spend most of the year in another state.

Each jurisdiction is different in their practices, include from city to city, so it's hard for me to say. But I know that personally for us he would not be someone that would be selected to call in to serve. We're not in the business of trying to completely disrupt someone's life if they're not actually in the area and have a legitimate reason for not coming in. I know that my mom was sent the form two or three times when she was self-employed and the business relied on her to be there, otherwise it could not operate. She put that on the form and was never called for jury duty during that time- whether for that reason or it was just a fluke, I don't know. She was called for jury duty after she was no longer self-employed and actually came in and went through the voir dire process before being dismissed.

I’m sorry. I don’t have any experience with companion passes or standby lists. I’m replying in the hopes your post won’t get lost and someone with experience can chime in. Could you call SW and ask how to get on the standby list? Would it be more of a hassle to be on standby and be there not certain if you’ll even get on the flight?

Oh lol yes that makes sense! Wishing you luck on finding a fleece! pixiedust: I’d like some apparel as well but nothing has called out to me so far. A nice light jacket (similar to the runDisney styles) would be nice!
Thank you! I think a light jacket similar to runDisney would also be great. I saw the customizable stuff by resort on ShopDisney and wasn't sure how I felt about it. It doesn't seem like it is eligible for the 20% either 😒

I called SW the lady was not sympathetic, but she was able to get me on the return flight... it was difficult to get it done. She said she’s never had this much trouble.

I booked myself a refundable fair that gets me there within 30 minutes, but I’m hoping I can get on the same flight. Ugh, I’m so mad at myself.

Rant away! I completely agree that serving on a jury is one of the few rights we can exercise as citizens that make an immediate and profound difference in the lives of others. My younger DD has some trouble with that since she is politically anti everything at this point in her life (20 yo). She still went to jury duty last year (after postponing 6 months because she was out of the country) . In my house it is not optional.

Help with AAadvantage please?
I pretty much use my SW card for everything and then use the points to visit my daughter who lives in another state. I've honestly paid very little attention to other travel cards- though I probably should.
Anyway, when flying home from St. Thomas last week on American, they gave a spiel for the AA card and I applied. There is a $99 fee, but for sure I'll get my moneys worth from it. In 2020 we're doing a trans-Atlantic cruise and going to St. John for two weeks. I can use the AA card for a checked bag for my flight from Chs-Mia pre cruise and Bos-CHS post cruise, though I often try to use just a carry-on, I think I'd be pushing it on a two week trip.
So, my questions are a few...I don't have my card yet. I'm guessing to get my free bag, I need to wait until it arrives to buy my flights? I'm in no hurry but I do have the money for the tickets and I don't want to argue to get my free bags if I book it too soon. Also, it says "You and up to four companions" so I'm guessing that my husband will get a free bag too? That will be awesome for our St John trip as we own at the Westin and pack a bag of food to cook in some evenings to save a little money.
Also, I get 60,000 free points after a purchase. Is it hard to book American flights with points? I've only done it with SW which is a breeze...also is St Thomas considered domestic? I realize it's a USVI, but I may use my points on that flight if possible.
And finally, I have the opportunity to buy a companion pass (for one flight, I think) for $99 and will do that also as all of my planned flights cost more than that. Is it easy to do?
Any and all advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I know this thread moves really fast, but can someone help me with timing for my DH's chase apps? His last chase card was CSP on 5/11. I now want him to apply for CIP (with support link from me). 90 days would be on August 9. He will also need a new Hyatt chase card in hand before 11/15. But 90 days from 8/9 is November 7, which is cutting it very close. Are the 90 days set in stone? If I had to try earlier than 90 days on one of them, which should it be?

I did jury duty over 16 years ago; was never selected to sit on a jury. In Canada it's a bit different -- the prosecutor and defense attorney are only allowed to ask one question (which they agree on before the prospective jurors are called into the courtroom). I was only called into the courtroom once and for whatever reason when I answered the question was turned away by the defense attorney. The rest of my 2 weeks was spent sitting in a huge room with a few hundred people (we were divided into groups) waiting to be called into a courtroom. I think by the middle of the second week we were told not to come back for the remainder of the week and most days we were dismissed by 2:00 or 2:30pm (the first few days were a bit later). My company paid in full for employees serving jury duty, so it wasn't bad.

Checked status on my Barclays application this morning and I was denied :headache::headache:. I won't know why until I get back to Florida and open the letter they are going to send. Depending on what it says I may try recon.

Given this, I *may* try for another AA Citi biz card using a public offer. I really want to accumulate AA points for flights!

Me on Saturday: working every other weekend (worked this past weekend), weekend trip for SWGE AP previews, Labor Day trip before passes expire, Sept trip for HHN/US, trip home in Oct for family wedding (Denver back to NE)… :scared:
Me on Sunday: I can go to Disneyland for a weekend in Oct or Nov, right? :rolleyes1

I'm sorry, I had a birthday party to go to tonight
Guys..... why is @Lain apologizing.... are we supposed to be begrudging him for doing his own stuff when he's already here being awesome in a bunch of his spare time? :rotfl2:

Lain we expect you to just sit in your parents' basement staring at a computer screen like @SouthFayetteFan from now on.

:rotfl2:

PS. You guys are both awesome!

Another newbie question . . . I see references to "Chase offers," for a certain percentage or dollar off of a purchase at a particular store. I get the sense that those are targeted offers, such that not all cardholders get them. Are they also tied to particular types of Chase cards? I only have the CIP (2 of them). Is it possible that I might get these offers, or are the business cards usually excluded? If I might get them, where would I find them? Thanks!
