Yeah I don’t have any need for another SW card. The only reason we got that in the first place was for Japan so we could have the two checked bags. We never fly SW otherwise.

Do you think the CIC or CIU would be better? I never got a Sapphire card in my name. What’s an MDD?

Thanks for the help!
MDD is the modified double dip. A play for both sapphire cards (and the $8k MSR That comes with it).

It seems like you have a use for the 5x URs so CIC could be better now. CIU has the 1.5x on everything so it’s better for non office store purchases.

Ah okay that makes sense. I think I’ll probably go for the CIC next just so we can work on getting 5x URs for gcs. We have discover cards too that we’ve had for awhile. We occasionally try to use those for the cashback bonuses.

Thanks so much! It's not a big deal really, but I thought I'd ask in case you remembered. I'm guessing she will be getting there around 5:30 so it looks like that might not work for her.

Just thought to look in the PP app and the hours are there! LOL. The 3:30 slot is to 6:30.

1. I think you decided to fly with JAL, which means you'll need AA miles to book partner awards. That means you'll need another Citi AA. And because you probably don't want to wreck your 5/24 status early in the game, you should keep to Citi AA Biz cards.

2. However, you need to wait about 95 days between your Citi AA Biz applications.

3. Getting P2 on the GrAAvy train by having him apply for the same Citi AA Biz offer you applied for -- P2 would earn the SUB and miles on spend, but unfortunately I don't think there's a way to combine your AA miles and P2's AA miles, which may make booking more complicated. I'll defer to @DisneyMandC and @SouthFayetteFan on this point.

4. Before you finish your Citi AA Biz MSR, you should have your next card lined up so you're not caught without a MSR to be working on.

5. You could refer P2 to the CIP. That'll get you 20k UR support points and line him up for a 80k UR SUB. Unlike AA miles, UR points are easily combined within the same household.

6. If JAL doesn't work out, you could have UR points in reserve to transfer to VS and then redeem for ANA partner awards.

7. If you don't end up booking with ANA, those UR points are still useful for booking hotels through the Chase portal or transferring to a partner with a good redemption rate like Hyatt.

8. Once P2 has a CIP, he can refer you to CIP2 as long as the CIPpy cup keeps flowing.

9. If P2 doesn't get approved for either, you could decide if self-referral from your CIP1 to CIP2 is worth the 20k UR for you. With the recent clawbacks by Amex (not Chase) of self-referral bonuses, people are a bit on edge about self-referrals and whether Chase could do something similar (or shut down accounts). It's always better to refer from P1>P2>P1 and so on than P1>P1. If your P2 can't get the CIP and can't refer you, we've had some discussion about setting up a DISchurners thread for single players to pair up and support each other.

I wonder if you're open to MS (manufactured spending) or have MS available to you to increase your spend (and therefore shorten the time it takes for you to hit MSR), but not actually increase your out of pocket expenses.

ETA: If you need more AA miles have you considered the Barclays Business Aviator?
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/barclays-business-aviator-bonus-now-75000-miles/It's a business card, so it won't affect your 5/24 status. The offer is 65k AA miles after a relatively low $1k MSR, and another 10k AA miles when you make a purchase on an employee (P2) card. I will caution that some of us on this thread got approved for this card, got the card in hand and started spending on it, only to have Barclays deactivate it and ask for business documentation. So this is kind of hit or miss.
Wow that stinks. I think I'll be done with Barclay after this. How long after the spend did they deactivate it. I put 0 years and 0 income on my app I'm not sure what documentation they could ask for.

Oops, forgot your last point and then I see you edited!

As far as I can tell, manufactured spending is when you get the visa gift cards and such to make your MSRs on various cards, and then use them to pay for other things? I'm not necessarily averse to it but I am honestly not sure how much hassle I can go through to do it. For example, I went last week to Fry's to look for the $500 MC cards (to use with Plastiq) and there weren't any (and as far as I could tell, they weren't issued by the correct bank anyway). But that isn't even a store I frequent, and I just don't know how much extra effort I can take on right now looking for them.

I have not looked at the Barclay card. Is that the one whose website people can't stand??? :D

No, MS is when you buy a VGC with your credit card to generate spend (towards MSR in your case), then use those VGCs to buy money orders or load onto Serve at places like
family $
and
$ general
, then you'd deposit to your bank (you might want to have a bank account that's friendly to money order deposits) and use the money to pay off your credit card bill.

Or you could look into bank funding, basically some banks allow you to use a credit card to fund a new account.
Memory Bank
will let you use a credit card to fund a new account up to $1k, and
Great Southern Bank
lets you fund multiple accounts up to $5k. You want to be sure the funding counts as a purchase, not a cash advance that won't count towards your MSR. I'm not familiar with how long you need to leave your funds in the new accounts, but others here have successfully knocked out MSRs entirely with bank funding.

Need someone to help me. Apparently my understanding of how to use the contactless in the card isn’t right. I held it up to the card reader but nothing happened. I moved it around and it never worked. CVS had the sign and the girl at the register said just hold it to the top. Well couldn’t get it to work and ended up just inserting the chip since there was a long line at the pharmacy. What am I doing wrong?
That happened to me tonight. The clueless cashier was staring at me probably wondering why the crazy lady was tapping the machine. And I still couldn’t get it to work.
Did anybody see this today:

My response:
Apparently there’s some crusade to bring churning to the masses. We must orchestrate our own demise and we must accelerate the pace..who’s with me??
Is it really that hard to read a few blogs and figure out your own path? Thousands of us have done it before... but apparently these days it’s too hard.
I love everybody here and I will help ANYBODY that finds their way to our thread but this attitude that is pervasive on r/churning to kill the game by making it so easy a dog could do it is ridiculous. We don’t need an app to help us pick a card...is clicking on the flow chart that hard (and why do we even have the flow chart to be honest...just read and ask a question or two)...UGH - I’ll step off my soap box now.
This happened with couponing - as soon as the TV shows, spots on Good Morning America began, the whole thing changed and was ruined. A few people looking for their 15 min of fame ruined a really good thing. The churning hobby definitely doesn’t need to be broadcast and spoon fed.
I want to be sure I understand how that works. You book JetBlue with UR’s and get 1.5 because you have a CSR. And even using the URs you still earn points through JetBlue?
I just want to clarify one point - you book JetBlue *through the UR portal* and your redemption is at 1.5 of value. Good luck getting the flights you want at a great price!

@Haley R we will just miss y’all at swolphin! We’re there until 8/15. First time staying there too and we chose Swan.

Picabu is a QS in dolphin. Dh and I walked over from BC last march to try it and thought the food was great. Better priced than Disney QS. You cannot pay with Disney gc do keep that in mind when budgeting.

Shoot we really are just barely missing you! I only chose dolphin because it was so much cheaper than swan. I was actually looking at picabu. I’m thinking we’ll do quick service for dinner when we get there and then maybe go to jelly rolls or the dance hall

Thank you for this! We found the info just now in the fine print on the Amex app - I looked for it when I read your post. It lists hours and says PP cards won't get you in except during those slots. Do you know if they kick people out at 6:30.

We were in that lounge last summer, up until around 8pm, and it did start out empty and then get quite full, but we were flying AF and didn't use our PP to enter so I didn't notice any of this.

I agree, and I'm seriously considering the Surpass for DW who is at only 1/24, if we can manage the MSR and she doesn't get the pop up
I’d skip it. Not worth the 5/24 spot to me. The biz, yes; but not this. Although that weekend cert could be 80-90k if you play it right, so I understand the temptation.

I think there’s several of us all just missing each other lol. And with us leaving right before the AP preview, it was bound to happen. We’d originally hoped to stay through that weekend but we need to get back for college classes.
I can’t even remember what we ate at picabu but I was impressed with the food and price. We do a lot of qs meals and that area is so lacking. It was nice to find another option, even if not staying at swolphin.

Hello from the luxurious Sleep Inn in Upper Marlboro, MD! Another horse show stay. You’ll all be happy to know that this is one of the nicer horse show hotel rooms we’ve stayed at. The toilet flusher knob is dangling off the side of the toilet, but it works! And the rusted sharp edge of the fiberglass tub is in a spot where it would be pretty hard to cut yourself and get tetanus.

Here’s DH’s horse after he reached over and grabbed this cart full of boots and pulled it onto its side. He’s very proud of himself.

Your DH’s horse is beautiful, I had a sorrel Quarter Horse with a star that I showed when I was a kid. He lived till he was over 30, I loved him so much it’s still hard to think about him without tearing up. Good luck this weekend!

Saw a comment about getting out of amex pop up. The consensus discussed by ppl who know amex was to bring your spendings back up to what u were spending when u were making your MSR.

So for example, if you were spending $2k per month on Hilton Honors card, continue to spend $2k for the next month and into next. This would be our guess on getting out of the pop up black hole.

Sorry, I’m in vegas on an ipad so its harder to quote and respond. Hope that helps.

Ignoring the annoying AMEX popup, Dh and I ended up booking the Dolphin 8/16-8/17 for the SWGE preview! We booked a King room on Orbitz because Dh had $38 in Orbitz bucks. The price before was showing as $198 and after it went all the way down to $122 and took off the resort fee for some reason. I'm wondering if they'll end up charging it to us when we get there? Either way I'm super excited!!! We've never stayed at the Swolphin so it'll be a fun first experience. Dh has to work Friday so we'll probably get there around 5-5:30 pm. What places are good to eat at the Swolphin for dinner (qs or ts)?

il mulino was really good.
