Amex makes it official:
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/american-express-adds-terms-to-ban-gift-cards-from-earning-points/Purchases of gift cards don't count towards MSR, or even earning points (at least on the BBP).
Was just coming to mention this...bolding for visibility:

American Express Adds Terms To Ban Gift Cards From Earning Points

But DoC goes on to say that many purchases of gift cards will go unnoticed such as at grocery stores and especially 3rd party gift cards purchased at most stores and such.

The unfortunate part is that this language allows the RAT to manually review things and they can basically do whatever they want. Adding this language alone doesn’t concern me, the larger concern is how they implement it and Amex has a track record of being crazy with this stuff!

they make bank off links... they give us like 20k bonus, but rumor is that they the bigger bloggers like TPG get close to $1000 per approval.

Depends on the card product. Maybe even the particular blog/blogger. I've seen an old FT thread that listed affiliate compensation for certain products, and Amex was paying $300-400 per Gold and Platinum approval even 7-8 years ago. I'm sure it's gone up some.

Reposting my ETA for visibility:

I will say that actual enforcement of these terms will still be spotty because the RATs can only police gift card purchases if they have the information you purchased a gift card. Some transactions will be dead giveaways, such as Simon, Gift Card Mall, and GiftCards .com, maybe even things like PPDG, Raise, or Gyft, and office supply stores that provide L3 data. However, the vast majority of merchants do not supply L3 data.

TBH at the end of the day I see this as a yawn.
DoC linked a post by Running With Miles in his recap this morning, which goes into how credit card affiliate relationships like the kind on most major points and miles blogs (*ahem* TPG and MMS) require or create incentives for bloggers to withhold critical information from the readers that could help them decide which card is best for them.

I'm wondering what RWM is talking about? 🤔
https://thepointsguy.com/2018/03/40k-delta-reserve/https://thepointsguy.com/news/delta-amex-current-offers/
Yep, zero mention of the fact that you can only get one card bonus per card per lifetime.

And zero mention of the fact that those cards just recently had bonuses that were much higher than that amount (and are likely to go back up again).

See:

RWM goes on:

PLEASE DON'T RELY ON BLOGGERS TO TELL YOU WHICH CREDIT CARD YOU SHOULD GET. AND LET'S NOT ENCOURAGE THEM BY CLICKING ON THEIR CREDIT CARD AFFILIATE LINKS.

Here at the DIS and DISchurners, we'll always try to give you the our best advice and all the information you need to make the best decision about what card is right for you.
Those 30-40k DL offers pushed by bloggers especially get my goat. They are just so bad. :furious::furious::furious:

@disneymagicgirl I believe you ordered from Fanatics.com last Christmas. Is it authentic clothing? DS wants an Mbappe soccer jersey and I was thinking this might be a good use of my AmEx offer. Apparently, I have to wait until next week or so for the 2019 jerseys to be released.
I did order some stuff from there, but I have no idea what authentic means or how to tell. If you specify, I can pull out the jersey and check.

Thanks! It’s not hard for DH to set the DD up, so that’s not the problem. The wording in the fine print threw me off a bit. Yes, it’s a great deal! With the trips we have planned, the cp will save us MUCH more than the $500 offer that I had been thinking of doing! So glad I didn’t!

So did you just transfer the funds or did you have to set something up with your CU to do it? Does a transfer from another account count as a DD?
I had to add the Chase account to my CU account as a transfer option. Then I would go into my CU account and transfer x$s to Chase. I was doing this to keep it fee free since I wanted to free up the large $s I had put into the savings account that was only earning $.01 a month of interest. If you look on DoC, there are DPs on what banks work as DD. Mine is a local CU and I gave it a try since it had worked for another bank accounts as a DD.

I could have changed my payroll DD but this was easier since I knew I was only holding the account for the 6 required months and 3 of those included the large savings account funds so I didn’t have to do anything.

So like this jersey says “authentic”-

And then this one says “replica”-

I, personally, have no idea what the difference is. And I might just go with the 2018 jersey since it is on sale for $55 off.

I can close it today and apply tonight? Sweet.

Don't even have to close it, the CIP doesn't have a product restriction like a Sapphire (ie ' this product not available to you' in the offer terms.) They only mention that you are not eligible for the welcome bonus if you received it on the same product within 24 months. So to the letter of the offer you'd want to wait until 24 months after receiving the bonus - but currently it's not being fully enforced so you could apply right now and be good if you are a bit shy of that date.
🤫 :p

I see @havaneselover has you covered but the easiest distinction for any sport is authentic ia going to be what the team wears. Same fabric etc. The only sport I can think of having a big difference is am auth hockey sweater/jersey is going to have a fight strap. Otherwise it's just probably heavier/nice fabric and better stitching. But really unless a specific patch or logo is only offered on authentic and if the replica is still high in price you're fine with a rep. Most people, imo, won't be able to tell the difference.

Replica jerseys are still officially licensed products produced by the team/league but are designed and cut to be worn by the general public. Authentic jerseys are the same jerseys that would be made and worn by the players. In your two links I see a couple very subtle differences between the two, one being the cut. The authentic one is more tailored and it says in the details "
  • Slim fit follows your body's shape closely to let you move freely"
Replica jerseys are generally more straight lines to better fit a larger audience ( and probably quicker to manufacture). Still has all the same look and details as the ones worn on the field though. Replicas are generally what you are buying at sporting goods stores and stadiums when you're buying a player jersey.

Thank you!!

My DS has some (not much) American Airlines miles that will expire in Sept of this year with no plans to fly AA before then. Besides AA shopping portal are there any ways to keep these from expiring?
