It’s probably best if you go to page 1, 2nd post by SouthFayetteFan and then list out the credit cards you have obtained in the last 24 months so we can make sure we are giving you accurate advice so you can successful. Chase, unfortunately, has many “rules” with 5 CCs in 24 months (5/24) and 1/30. This way we can give you an accurate strategy.

08/17 - Chase Southwest Plus
07/15 - Chase Disney Premier

I travel SW mainly. Again, thanks for all your help !

If I applied for both cards now and the bonus miles were deposited into my SW account prior to 1/1/20 (I think I have 90 days to purchase the minimum once the cards are issued), then I would only be eligible for the companion pass until 12/31/20. Right?
Yes that’s correct

Have you mapped out what your travel over the course of the next 30 or so months looks like? That may help you decide on the timing or need for the CP.

ETA: If you decide it will serve you best to have it all of 2020/2021, then you could go ahead and apply for a CIP now. That would give you 80k URs which you could transfer to SW as needed to book flights. If you decide to do that, please let us know so we can help guide you through the application process. It is a biz card, so not as intuitive as a personal.

So you are 1/24, 1 personal in 24 months. If you are looking to refresh your SW points while waiting to get the SW CP for 20/21, you could apply for a Chase Ink Preferred (CIP) in the meantime. The Chase URs can be transferred directly to SW 1 for 1 by the 1000s. You could do that day. It has a $95 AF, $5000 MSR in 90 days but gives you a 80k bonus so you end up with at least 85k URs that you can transfer to SW or use for other travel.

For the CP, you can only apply for 1 business card in 30 days. If you want it for 20/21, I would apply for your first one in mid Oct, wait until your Dec statement closes and then complete the MSR so it is with your Jan statement. Then in mid Dec, so there some place between the apps, apply for the 2nd Biz and then complete that MSR.

Some people wait until Jan to complete the MSR to be safe but as long as you wait until after your Dec statement closes, you are good.

We love our CP and get lots of use out of it. We rotate between DH and I so he gets for the 2 years, I then get it, repeat. It’s his turn for 20/21 since mine expires on 12/31/19. I had purchase DS his 1st flight in 4 years since we are flying home from Orlando on 1/3 :)

OK, so I made another decision...which is basically a miracle. hahahaha

Decided on DH Hilton ascend and fingers crossed he gets an upgrade offer to an aspire. I'm going to app now and then close his hilton biz. I'm hoping he doesn't get a pop up, but we haven't been using all our amex cards lately. Fingers crossed.

What is the best way to refer him?
I have the BBP, Hilton biz, SPG personal, and SPG biz. (well, whatever they are now)

He has amex ED, SPG biz, hilton biz, and amex plat.

The Plat is 15k MRs - I'd go with that. BBP and ED are only 10k I believe. Hilton Biz is 20k HH points. You can't refer to a Hilton on the Bonbon Biz (cobrand can only refer to the same cobrand).

Oh my goodness, what an adventure you guys have had. Awesome on the upgrade but yuck on the no AC. I wouldn't have been able to sleep either. British Air really needs to fix their IT problems. This is the 3 or 4th time in the past couple of years that I can think of where they've had major issues. *so* glad you guys were able to get out all in upper class even if it was on the not as impressive plane. Hopefully you are reading this from back at home all nice and snug in your own bed!

They really do need to get their act together on the IT front. We just got to JFK and are relaxing in the Admiral’s Lounge. I managed to sleep a few hours more on the plane before afternoon tea was served and watched a few episodes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. We will be boarding our last flight to Miami soon. It was an awesome trip and I’m looking forward to going back again.

Glad you got a bed if only for a few hours. I'll be interested to hear how you get reimbursed for the Uber ride. Years and years ago, DH and I were flying into Memphis but because of a storm we got diverted to some super-small airport in Alabama. Delta said they could get us to Memphis in two days! We rented a car and drove (it was a few hours) -- Delta refunded part of the flight and we just let it go at that because that was more than the cost of the one-way rental, but if that happened now I think I would be asking for more.

Thank you. I don’t know that we will but it was our last resort. Trains were sold out and any we could get would not work time wise. We wouldn’t have made it to Edinburgh on time to catch their last flight out to LHR assuming it hadn’t been cancelled too. Hired car services had no availability. So Uber it was. Our driver was wonderful and we were so thankful he even took the fare. Our internal flight was on separate tickets from our points and miles flights so they will be reimbursed by BA. That alone will cover most of the Uber fare. We will still pull out all the stops to get a full reimbursement from BA. We will see how it goes.

I need to find $99 SW tickets:)
Or you can just find two cheap tickets that add up to what you need. Then cancel and combine the credits :thumbsup2

Example: If you need to book a $160 flight and want to use your AMEX travel credit, find two $80 flights. Book, then cancel, then use the two credits to book the flight you wanted...

Edit: for anybody trying to do this, I make it sound easy but you need to make sure you understand all the details and do it right. Also, if you don’t get your credit for some reason you will have no leg to stand on so there are some minor risks.

Do I need to cancel my other SW Chase card before applying for the Performance Business Card?

I also found a "standard" Disney Chase card which ironically I just received a letter from Chase stating it would be cancelled in August when the credit expired due to non use. I am thinking about cancelling the Disney Premier card (annual fee) and just keep the standard card. What would you recommend so I can make sure I am eligible for the SW Chase cards?

PS. and yes I will take any advise on how I should fill out both the Performance Business and Premier Business Chase cards. Without getting both, I will not be able to get the CP. If I am issued the cards then I am eligible for the bonus miles?

Thanks

No, you don’t have to cancel the personal to get the 2 sw biz cards. However, I’d cancel anyways, after the annual bonus points post and within 30 days of the af posting, just to free up credit lines.

As far as the Disney card, just call and downgrade the one you have to the no AF version.

Eta: yes, if you apply for the cards and receive them and meet the spend in the allotted time, you receive the bonus points.

Feel like I've had a productive day from my couch:

1. Opened Discover Savings accounts for both of us for the bonus for $400 total.
2. Moved my $95 credit on my now canceled Hilton Biz to my SPG Biz.
3. Called Marriott to do a $200 charge towards my room in August and immediately got the e-mail that I've used my $40 Amex offer. I'll probably put the remainder of the balance (like $140) on my Chase Marriott card just because it's been so long since I've used it.
4. Put CF in DH's wallet for gas this quarter.
5. Cleaned up YNAB.
6. Did NOT order the last of the MBs I need for our trip. :sad2:

ETA: FWIW, ordering MBs on MDE do not code as travel for the CIP. It shows up as a Shop Disney Parks purchase.

No idea from personal experience but spitballing I’d downgrade a day or two after so when the URs are deducted maybe they get pulled back at 1.5x instead of 3x.
This would be my game plan too @snugglebug
@snugglebug I'm like 99% sure this happened for me
@snugglebug I second this. It stinks because you don’t get any URs for the purchase but you will lose them for the return. I waited probably a month before I cancelled just so it didn’t look so intentional. Probably not necessary, but that’s what I did.
Thanks! I had totally forgotten they do claw back UR even though you don't earn on the booking. I guess I should put some spend on there so there's UR to claw back later. I tend to move them right away to my acct.

Really bummed I didn’t get a chance to take advantage of the staples no fee visas because I was away on vacation. Hopefully, they run a new promo soon.

they always run out here... :( i dont mind paying a smaller fee for them... i have like 8-10 sitting in front of me from past deals lol.
