Sorcerer Mickey has been showing for days but I tried and tried and tried and could not check out with it either. This has been so frustrating. I finally gave up and just ordered what we could get that would please each person, with yep, kiddo wants being a priority. We've had company at our house for 10 days and I'm tired. The ongoing MB saga was just becoming more than I could handle considering we are a month out from our trip....Y'ALL, we are a month out from our trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WhooHoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried a white noise machine? We got one when DD was little to mask tv and voices while she slept. The only problem is DH and I got used to it and now we travel with it. I will say it can make even the most poorly insulted hotel rooms easy to sleep in.

I actually don't even like a fan going. I prefer quiet with the tv on sleep so I have something to occupy my mind and make it so I don't think and I fall asleep. I had a hard time getting used to my a/c unit each spring because it was outside my bedroom. It wasn't as loud with the heat. I hated the cicada's. I'm used to airplanes and traffic. It's the "not normal" noises I have a problem with, fireworks, obnoxious music etc. I wear ear plugs or noise cancelling earbuds on the plane because the engine noise is too loud and bugs me, which to me is like a fan or white noise because it's the same constant hum.

I went to the Nascar race at Richmond when I was living in NC. I wasn't yet perm at the race team but had a friend that's job had connections and she got us hot passes for the race. The night race was rained out and postponed until Sunday. Didn't get a ton of sleep for various reason Sat and so Sunday I was tired. Had my headset on listening to the scanner of some driver or race control and we were sitting along a wall in turn 4 watching. We were 20-30 feet from the fence and the track was maybe another 10-15 feet from there. So it was loud, you could still hear the cars but not as loud. I kept nodding off but didn't let myself fall asleep but it was a "normal noise" traffic and talking I'm weird

Yeah I saw that. CNN finally raised it to a 7.1 too. Crazy. I would imagine the lack of several story buildings and overpasses is what's keeping it from being worse. With streets cracked and buildings on fire, though that's probably more from the gas line's breaking, but still if it was a different make up it'd probably be different. Hopefully this is actually the big one and not another fore shock. It all also depends on when stuff was built, which is part of our problem here.

We fly out to San Francisco on Weds and the portion of our road trip from Lone Pine to Pahrump enroute to Vegas takes us pretty close to Ridgecrest. I’m from Michigan where the worst Mother Nature does is change her mind 5 times in 24 hours.

I’m kind of in a state of shock at the no shower curtain or door thing. I mean I’ve showered in some strange places, lol boarding on TMI, but in a US hotel I apparently have a 100% expectation of a shower door or curtain.

Starting to see a similar type of shower more on hgtv in US homes. I don't get it, I want to keep all the heat in the shower and that requires a door or curtain. Nevermind that it just seems messy and no privacy, not that a clear door would provide that but at least it's a buffer and if someone was seeing you in the shower I'm sure of other things so I guess you don't need privacy. It just seems impractical.

We looked at quite a few houses with a shower that had no door. I told Dh that wasn’t happening for me. I’m sure most people that don’t want the door do it so they don’t have to clean the glass. I don’t mind it. We just keep a squeegee in the shower.

I’ve stayed at a couple hotels with those types of showers and it is Soooo COLD!!! I want to be hot in my shower. So basically I strongly dislike that the of shower lol.

NOOOO!!!!!! Some things should NEVER change ...uh-oh. Is this what getting old feels like? Because I feel absolutely set in my USA = shower door/curtain ways.

Exactly! The only thing worse than the heat escaping is not having hot water to start with. The next worst thing is the attacking shower curtain in a hotel, curved bars should be required.



Hopefully they'll start going away like shiplap and subway tile. I'd rather buy a fixer upper or build from scratch than move into something someone else has done to what they think people will like because I guarantee I won't like most of it. Have some imagination people, you don't have to just do white subway tile.

This was the first time I had seen a shower like this in a hotel room but a buddy of mine had mentioned seeing it in his travels recently. I can see how the design may work in some situations but the half wall was just too short to keep the water in when the shower was on... especially when the kids were showering lol. I’m on team curtain/door!

And then my pet sitter sent me a photo of the 2” hail we got back at home. Ugh. I’m still trying to finish up my claim from last year’s hailstorm.

Oh and while on the subject of showers and bathrooms. Take comfort in the fact that we don’t come across these types of signs at hotels in the US.

This was taken before having had coffee, while concerned about using the right converter so I don’t blow out all the electricity in the hotel. Now I gotta worry about this.

I think my children are determined to give me even more grey hair.

A couple of weeks ago, I came home from work to find an email:my younger daughter had written at 6 am that morning. She was in the Dominican Republic and said she thought she had food poisoning because she had been throwing up for a few hours. Of course, she never updated during the day to tell me she was feeling better, so I started frantically texting and emailing till I got a reply that she was ok.

Now this morning I woke up to a message from my older daughter, who is visiting California. Her message said, “Whoa!! That was a bigger one.” At least she followed up on it to let me know she was okay.

You can see Puffins in Maine near Acadia. I believe the first one is the puffin, but I’m posting all 3 pics just in case. A Puffin, a tern and a Black Gilly.
