Boy this new SW card has thrown me for a bit of a loop. I really want to keep drinking from the cup while that loophole is open. BUT, I have a SW CP that expires on 12/31/19. AND I've earned 29k SW points this year so this ONE biz card and it's 85k points would earn me a CP for 2020... I don't have to decide now, but to ensure the points posted before the end of the year I probably need to make this move in the next 3-4 months. CIP2 for me is scheduled for August and if I pull the trigger on that, I'd probably want to wait until November to apply for another Chase biz card. That would be too late IMO to try this because I don't want to cut it too close and miss out.

Ok but then...what if I timed this for a 2020/2021 CP? Maybe self-support comes to this card. I could get 10k from self-support, 80k from the bonus, and 5k from the base. Now I'm just 15k away from a CP... I could upgrade my personal to a priority and do an advance on my 7,500 anniv points via a refundable SW fare...I could also do an advance on my 9k anniv points on the biz card again via a refundable SW fare...boom I have a 2020/2021 CP.

Hmmmmm...I have a lot to think about here. And this still comes back to, do I prefer having the CP over just drinking from the cup until it flips over.
I say keep drinking from the CIPpy while you can.

Since I don't have the time to speculate and research this today, I'll ask the experts. How did the SW Biz offers go historically? Did it start out at 60k for 3 and just stay there? Or were there periodic shifts as they worked out the sweet spot?

If the former then I'd speculate that it'll probably stay the standard offer as it's a reasonable progression for that card line. (40 for 1, 50 for 2, 60 for 3, 80 for 5) If the Biz Premier jumped a little, then it's possible they'll throw in 70 for 4 promos in there. Would be sweet if they did a sale at 70 for 3 but I don't think they'll have to twist people's arms on this one. I'm actually surprised at bit a the "low" AF. Given the extras on top of the comparative consumer product (Priority card) and it's pricing, I was thinking it'd be north of 200, probably $249. But you know, don't tell them that :p
There used to be 2 SW Biz Cards (Plus and Premier). All four cards used to have a regular offer of just 25k (What an insult that was, lol!). And then a couple of times a year they'd all increase to the same 50k / $2k offer. ALL four cards would have this offer. So the discussion used to be that you'd get 2 SW cards, get 104k SW points and you had to earn an extra 6k to get your CP. The SW Plus Biz card then got discontinued at some point.

The first time we saw a 60,000 SW Biz offer was in March 2015 and I believe it was supposed to be targeted but we figured out how to access a public link. I think the first time we saw all SW cards go to 60k was maybe in 2017?? And then, after that limited time offer the SW Biz remained at 60k and has pretty much been 60k (from what I recall) for almost 2 years now so that definitely seems to be their standard offer.

I'm hoping that this 80k offer is the standard offer on the new card. With the elevated MSR and elevated AF, it certainly makes sense. So there's our churning history lesson for the day, haha!

Here's on old MMS article with a little background:

I know...it's just too good to not get killed eventually! A CP is nice but we wouldn't have it in time for our Jan trip so I'd really only get the benefit of it on 2 round trip flights (our Summer trip and our Nov trip). So it would maybe save me 40k SW points (or less) on those 2 trips. That's the thing I always have to remember with SW CP, it only is as valuable as the number of flights you'll use it on. And a 1 year CP is obviously less valuable than a 2 year.

I think you are right here...but I'll still spend hours thinking about it because that sounds fun to me, lol!

I'm so upset and completely done with AMEX. They will not give me my 100,000 points for my Bonvoy Brilliant upgrade!!!!! I'm so mad right now. I've tried everything and they won't budge. 😡🤬
Quoting myself, because I'm still so mad....I just asked them to downgrade the card then and at least remove the AF if I'm getting zero for upgrading and they said NO, arghhhhhhhh. Mind you I just put $7,000 in organic spend on this card!!!!!!!

Did they give you a reason??

Any comments comparing the 2 biz cards? I am finishing up an Amex spend but then was planning SW biz. Not sure now. I’d love the 80k points but not sure I’d use the benefits. Don’t need GE. Wouldn’t use very many WiFi credits or upgraded boarding.

Sorry guys, this is my final update: Moved up the chain again to talk to another supervisor and am now being told regardless of what offer I saw or applied through, my account was not eligible for the upgrade offer
🙄

Best he could do was 20,000 points and refunded the $300 prorated AF after downgrading.

The end. sigh

How frustrating!!! AMEX is losing it I think. I'm glad they at least gave you something and refunded your money. But UGH!

IF you or your spouse currently have any SW card, you're basically comparing 70k for $3k MSR (10k support + 60k bonus) to 80k for $5k MSR. So you get 10k SW points for $2k in MSR. That's actually a decent value for the step up in spend.

IF you don't have a SW card you can't self-support or cross-support then you're obviously getting 20k more SW points for $2k in MSR which is pretty good!

Of course you also have to factor in the annual fee difference which can be offset by various benefits. There's a lot to consider here and the decision is somewhat personal as people will value these benefits differently.

IF support comes to this new SW biz card and you can get 90k from one card (10k + 80k) then I really think it starts to swing in favor of this new card.

If I were considering the 2 right now with no support link factor, I'd probably take the higher bonus...

Whoa this is horrible. I can't recall if you have an AmEx Plat but if you do, I would suggest calling the customer service number on that card and seeing if you can get someone who is more interested in helping you. The few times I have called the Plat CS number, I have gotten reps that really seem to want to make whatever I want happen -- the last time was when I called to convert my Plat to a Gold and I was worried that I was going to get a hard time about downgrading and having multiple Plats but the CS rep was just super helpful. Might not make a difference but possibly it could.
