@elgerber - RE: this post
I know this has been going on for a while for you but I don't recall, are you still within your 90 days? If so, and I know you've already thrown extra money at it, but there are reports that people making up the spend AmEx appears to have glitched on are getting the bonus now.

I swear there was one this week or maybe it was last week but I'm having trouble finding it where it kinda confirmed this one where it worked:

I'll poke around and if I can spot the DP I was thinking of.

I did my poking around and found the other DP and a new one popped up today for Delta bonus auto- posting

So I checked the Card Match tool and I got the 100 MR Amex Plat pre qualified offer to show up. Is that offer out there a lot? I am hesitant to go through with it since currently just started a CIP #2 and finishing a Citi Biz and a Barclay Biz. If I wait and try the tool again later think it will show up again?

No need to feel embarrassed. You just started this hobby last week! It’s a lot to take in.

And here you go: https://onemileatatime.com/redeeming-virgin-atlantic-miles-ana/

Thank you for reposting. I didn't see it before. It's very interesting!

Can anyone, looking at that article, comment on the little graphic of United's website that they show. In that graphic, it shows "flight operated by All Nippon Airways." I just went onto the United website and put in information for a similar flight (LAX-NRT, in my case) and I get only an option operated by United. Does that simply mean that there are no ANA flights available to book on points?

This is a highly targeted offer. In fact, we jokingly call it the Platicorn. It's about that rare. Generally, it's targeted at people who don't already have other Amex cards, i.e., potential new customers who Amex wants to attract with a big offer to their premium card.

I was able to pull the 100k MR offer on Cardmatch for my wife last year, held off and thought I'd apply over the weekend when I had some time to sit down and fill out the app. I've never been able to pull up the 100k offer for DW again.

ETA: The 100k MR Platinum offer is widely considered worthy of a 5/24 slot. If you can make it happen with the MSRs you've got going on, I'd say go ahead and apply. Don't let the high AF scare you off. The card's benefits will put you at or over the AF in value in your first year, not even considering 100k MR is worth ~$1k in travel. And the Platinum can generate support links worth 15k MR, which you can use to support yourself or anyone else to other Amex cards.

Here's a recent post by @wanderlust7 justifying the AF: https://www.disboards.com/threads/i...-addl-details.3729982/page-1480#post-60680963

And @PolyRob recently pulled the 100k MR Platinum offer, applied and got approved:

Yes, I should have written it "in his 'business name'"!! You may rest assured I will probably do it for him while he looks over my shoulder!

I started this last May.....and done the applications for my DH....he knows about them, and does not care how many cards are applied for as long as his credit score does not go down...and his actually gone up

Sounds like there's no partner award availability on ANA that day. Have you tried different days? Although United's schedule extends 337 days out, I've found more award availability if I search starting back a week, like around 330 days out.

Ok you have me convinced....Will probably apply later today. Thanks for the advice. No worries about the AF. I see the benefits look easily worth it. Thanks for the response and info....I did see PolyRob had grabbed it (That is about where I was at on my backreading).

Newest cruise trip update... currently we fly back late Saturday night. We are thinking about switching to Sunday afternoon. Of course, we are now 3.5 weeks out from then so availability is not awesome and prices are higher. I am somewhat to blame for this idea even though it wasnt my original intent  I simply mentioned to DH thatif they dont spend the wholesecond day at KSC we could eat dinner at DS or one of the resort restaurants before heading to the airport... which in DHs head has now morphed into staying at KSC, then back to disney for a night and a dinner... possibly Shula's.

Originally when we were going to do the parks on this trip too Shulas was on the list. So on one hand, now that the parks part has been pushed off I think, this could be a chance to go before our TIW card expires and save 20%. On the other hand, changing the flights with SW now takes them from 12k per person to 25k for 2 and 40k for the other 2, because theres only 2 WGA fares currently! :faint: more research to do today...

OMFG!! Are you kidding me? Back in April my Hilton Honors acct got hacked and 250k points were drained. They of course gave them back. Well this morning at 5:30am someone went into my Hilton acct and once again changed the email and phone number w/ it. It looks like they tried to take 150k points! When this happened in April I went in and changed my password, but somehow this happened again! HTH do I stop this from happening?

Oh, ok I was looking at this fall (only because we plan to go in the fall, although not until next year) and when I changed it to the end of next April into May, I see both more flight options AND two of those are ANA flights. Very good. Thank you!!!

So then according to the article once I locate such a fare "operated by All Nippon Airways" then I would call Virgin and ask for those ANA flight numbers/date/time.... at least that is what I understood the article to say.

Thank goodness I have a little over a year!

I guess on a happier note, the email I had from AAdvantage was giving me complimentary Gold Status from now till September. Which might come in nice for my flights next week :)

Did you register for the Hyatt/AA promotion? I got the same email a couple days ago and no idea how/where it came from. Either way I enjoyed being able to move seats into the preferred sections for a couple of AA flights coming up for the rest of the year.

Approved for Platicorn!!! Best part is I hit the button after approval to get the card number and got an error message that said systems were not responding right now and will award a $60 statement credit.....so already got that Annual Fee down!

Sell the wood block card holder/phone stand on eBay for $15, and that'll offset the AF a little more. :rotfl2:

You got it. :thumbsup2

Oh my, I am so embarrassed that I have misunderstood! Thank you both for taking the time to explain it to me...

OK next steps:
  • Create Virgin Atlantic frequent flyer account
  • Create United Frequent flyer account
  • Create ANA Frequent flyer account just to have for possible future use (who knows.... Japan may become a regular thing)

@Lain , sorry if I missed or have forgotten your earlier post with the link. I will go look again!

No need to be embarrassed. This is a lot to take in and you just got started.

Embarrassing would be me not taking advantage of Marriott travel packages for years before they devalued and waiting until just before the merger. I’ve had a few more embarrassing travel hacking moments but that one is likely the most recent and the one I regret the most. :-)

Correct. They go fast. This is why I booked for my return flight the same day as my arrival and then sucked it up on the change fee to book an actual return flight. Unfortunately you can only book RT flights. Also check Haneda as an arrival airport for availability. You can arrive in NRT and depart HND or vice versa. You can also have different US departure and return airports.

That is correct. Taxes and fees will run about $300 ish per person. Change fees are $50.

I should add, when booking ANA, you need to book roundtrip, so you'll need to give VS a departure flight and return flight. @calypso726 would say you either need to be flexible or be willing to pay a $50 change fee when your real return flight date shows up. That is if your dates are firm, then you'll want to be booking as soon as VS's award availability opens up at 331 days out (you can start searching United's site around 337 days out), and you could book your actual departure date and a return flight for the same day you arrive; then when the return flight you want opens up, call VS to change your return flight to that date.

When you call VS to give them the ANA flight numbers/date/time to search, you can ask VS to hold those award tickets for up to 48 hours. This way, you can confirm there is award availability on ANA with VS first, before you transfer your UR points to VS. Chase UR points transfer to VS instantly, so you shouldn't need to full 48 hours. Once a VS agent confirms your flights are available to book with VS miles, you can even ask if they'll stay on the line with you as you log into Chase to transfer your URs to VS, then refresh your VS balance and book.
