Is this the Grand Canyon or the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone? I love road trips but GC to Yellowstone is a 2 day drive in itself. Unless you are going to stop by the NPs in Utah - Zion/Bryce, not sure I would drive. You could do a month in Yellowstone and still have things to do. I was there for 5 days and hit my high spots but really needed at least one more day.

Have you driven an RV before? I have the dream of RVing but really don't think I would be able to drive those things. If you do go to Mount Rushmore, there are many, many winding, curvy mountain roads. You have to be comfortable driving in those conditions with a larger vehicle. It can be difficult to get to all the top spots with a larger vehicle.

This sounds amazing. I haven't even started real planning yet. I am so far behind. How many days would you think are good for DV? I was only thinking 2.

We spent three nights, so two full days, there and it was perfect imo! We hit all the major sights except for the Racetrack, which is a really long ride down a dirt road, so we decided to pass on that, and Scotty's Castle, which is still closed.

Please tell me your thought on the Fairfield when you have the time.

I really want to stay at the BW but it looks like those points might be needed on Kodiak Island, as there is no Marriott there. Imagine that! LOL

Will do! @speedyfishy stayed there, which got it on my radar. There's also a review on the hotel thread. Have been wanting to stay at the Courtyard Theme Park Entrance with the water park. But won't have time to use the water park this trip, so didn't make sense to book it.

So I know I'm late to the party on these kinds of deals, as they come up often. I shop regularly at Safeway and am just wondering what hacks/tips I'm missing by not jumping on these? Obviously, there's value in the straight discount they offer, but there are still activation fees, right? Are people using these to load a Serve card and then put it back into their bank account?

Thanks! Yeah I read @speedreport but I also remember @Lain, I think it was???, who had a very different experience.

Glad to hear you are having a good trip!

On the hotels .com free night reward, so they just apply the set amount to a multi-night reservation, or does it literally just pay for one night? For example, my free night is worth $70. I have a multi night hotel stay booked for $200 at $50 a night. If I apply my free night, do I get $50 taken off for one night, or the value of $70?

Haven't left yet. :D But if anybody didn't have a good experience at the Fairfield Anaheim, I can still cancel before midnight today!

I use the Mastercard ones to pay things on plastiq like pur car loan. They've even been coming up as debit cards there so only 1% fee! So I pay $296.80 for the GCs, make payments totaling about $297, and can either earn extra points like with 5% freedom quarter or even put it on an AMEX card to use towards MSR because AMEX wont know what I'm getting and I cant pay mu car loan directly with that.

Haha! I read your post to mean you were just now checking out and heading to DL Hotel. Must stop multi-tasking! When is your stay? This was a last minute split stay to take advantage of SWGE reserved time wasn't it? I am toying with the same split stay but in November and without SWSG access of course. Can;t wait to hear how things go for you.

The MasterCards can be a pain to load to serve. They can be used to get money orders at grocery stores. Right now I’m buying the $100 ones get a slight discount 4x the with Gold and then use them to buy Disney giftcards.

My wording did make it sound like that, lol. We leave Saturday night! 2 nights Fairfield, 1 night Disneyland Hotel. Will report back! :D

Yeah, my main complaint was it has a very "motel" feel and the renovations felt a bit cheap. Location doesn't get much better though.
"Motel feel" as in outside hallway doors, or ??? We don't spend much time in the hotel so we don't need many amenities. Looks like about a 10 min walk, yes? Might be interested in using a hot tub. Any knowledge about that? Pool not so important. We frequently stay at Best Westerns so motel feel is generally okay with us. My spreadsheet is currently unavailable ;) but wasn't there something about rudeness too?

I just watched Patrick dougall’s video of the Harry Potter tour in London and I feel like I have to go. Dh did say he wanted to go to the UK next. I don’t really have any interest except for the tour lol. What do you guys think? Should we go to the UK next?

YES, YES, YES! We did the WB HP tour last summer. It was super cool. Honestly I liked it far more than I liked HP at US. No rides, but so much fun. You have to book in advance, and the tickets are timed so it was never too crowded. Definitely plan to spend some time there. :goodvibes

Another BW frequent stayer! In fact my DD didn't like our upgraded hotel choice in Boston where we stayed at a Hyatt Regency. She liked being able to park the car right outside the room and not pay for parking. I've raised cheap/frugal kids. Now that we know about travel hacking and points, I'm sure she will be able to adjust and learn to love it.

Do you mean the referral points? DHs new CIP was just approved 6/1 so I don't see referral points for that yet.
Yes thats what i meant. I thought you had received yours and i thought that was quick and was wondering where his referral points were.

Yes, door and window face to outdoors walkways. Despite (or maybe because of) my "Gold Elite" status, we got a, uh... "pool view" room... on the 2nd floor! So we were basically right over the pool area, and we'd hear kids screaming and having fun when we came back in the afternoons for a nap. The pool area is not much, just kind of a enclosed space right off of the hotel driveway. There's not much to the grounds at all. But again, in terms of location, it doesn't get much better. You pass by maybe 2 other (small) hotels (and a Panera Bread and McDonald's) on the way to the crosswalk to Disneyland Resort's eastern gateway. I'd say the walk to bag check is slightly less than 10 minutes.

Oh, there's also an onsite Pizza Hut Express, where we got some personal pan pizzas for our kiddo. Charge it to your Bonvoy card though, because it codes as a Marriott hotel charge and not dining.

No Plat yet :(

I cant remember, if I have a UPS account does it show everything coming to my address? Or just the ones in my name?
