As many of you know, I've been checking flights to Australia very regularly. Some might say obsessively Based on some of the flights I've been following, I have a couple of "what would you do" questions:

• How much layover time would you prefer to have before the connecting international flight?
• Would you rather fly in an entire day before? Would you give the same answer if the only daily international flight leaves at 10pm and there are multiple flights to the connecting airport from your home airport?
• How likely is bad weather to affect flights in Houston during the months of September or October? I know to avoid certain connecting airports during the summer, especially as the day goes on, but I don't know how Texas weather works.
• How are the lounges at IAH? We'd be flying J on United. As of now, no Amex Plat but that's on the list lol

Has anyone done Yellowstone? Lookin for tips and suggestions!

There was chatter about it back a month or so. I believe @pillow @StephPlum @platamama and @hsmamato2 were giving advice. I have a partial trip booked for July. I am not sure if I am keeping it. I have 3 nights in Yellowstone, 1 in Jackson and 1 in Grand Tetons right now. I do have flights, but I am not happy with them. They are pricey and not that great. With the flights I have, I need 11 nights hotels and I only have 5 booked. So I really don't have tips or suggestions yet, but the others might. I think it was @StephPlum that had a trip report on Tripadvisor.

Depends on the size of the airport but to make sure my luggage made it since that would be important I'd say an hour. If you have to go through security again I might do a bit more. Also depends on if I need to eat during the connection, how much time I want to be able to wander so I'm not sitting etc.

Fly in the day before to where, the place I'm connecting. Only if it's a city I want to see anyway, if it's TX, which I wouldn't connect in anyway because (sorry for those that like the state) I don't have any desire to go there for any reason.

Houston can have issues with hurricane's that time of year so I'd rather change in LAX because I'd be looking to avoid any potential weather delays.

A few updates:

As promised, my booker from Juicy Miles reached out to me today so we can start the real planning and logistics for booking the outbound flights for our 2020 Japan trip. He will be booking on June 20 when we will be en route from SFO to Zurich on our way to Africa, so I'm really glad I hired someone to do this booking for me. The plan is for him to book us two in First and two in Business on JAL. So far, everything with the Juicy Miles booking service still seems very professional and above-board. I'll report back once our flights are actually booked...

The 50k points from my CIC SUB were in my Chase account as of this morning! And I realized that I dropped to 3/24 as of June 1!!

On the negative side of things, my flight from SJC to BOI was delayed 3+ hours last night. Ugh! My flight was supposed to leave SJC at 6:45 p.m. and actually took off just before 10:00 p.m. (which meant that we didn't land until around 12:15 a.m. in Boise, and I had to work today). The good news is that I was aware of the delay before leaving for the airport. I was at my MIL's house in Palo Alto which is only about a 20 minute drive to SJC (especially on a Sunday night with no traffic). I was tracking my aircraft on Flight Aware and waited until it had actually taken off from SNA and was on its way to SJC before I drove to the airport. That also meant I got to watch the whole NBA Finals game too. WARRIORS!!!!!! On the drive to the airport, I was composing my Tweet to SWA to see about getting some compensation for this delay. Turned out I didn't need to. As soon as I arrived at the gate, I heard an announcement telling folks who hadn't already picked up their vouchers to come to the podium to get their compensation. $100 LUV voucher!

Yellowstone is amazing. It is like nowhere I have ever been before. The park is quite large and has a bunch of different types of areas from geysers to canyons to hot springs to valleys. IMO it is worth it to stay in the park to cut down on drive time. You'll still be driving a lot since the park is soooo big so saving any drive time is a good idea. If you want to stay in the park, you'll want to mark May 1 on your calendar. The accommodations for the entire next year open on May 1 the year prior. They go really quickly especially for the popular summer month.

Forgot to mention in my updates that I PM'd to close DH's CIC and heard back within an hour or so that the account has been closed. I wanted to get DH back to 2 open Chase Biz cards (CIP #2 and SW) and free up some CL before going for CIP #3. June 12 will be three months since his CIP #2 app but I'm probably going to wait until we get back from Africa in early July to apply since I don't think we'll have much actual spend in Africa for purposes of meeting MSR.

Ugh...our 5pm SW flight home tomorrow was cancelled....was able to book a 9pm flight home....will get home after midnight...not looking forward to work Monday....
SW Rep didn’t know why...told me to email customers service and ask for compensation....anyone have experience with this....I have no idea what to ask for

Following up on our flight cancellation....Heard back from SW..plane was taken out of service for mechanical reasons.....received $150 LUV vouchers for each of us and they are refunding the $40 each paid for upgraded A1-15 boarding ....
Very happy with their response...

DP on the Visitors Toll Pass that is being tested at MCO 5/1-7/31....
-Registered for it on the website before we left
-picked the tag up at a small booth on level 1 at MCO by the car rentals
-hung the tag on the rearview mirror...the car and license plate was automatically registered when we left the parking garage

So far very easy and I will update if there are any issues when we return it on Sunday

Updating......toll pass was easy to return...there are secure bins to deposit them in by the car rental returns

She will cancel these 2 cards shortly and slow down until it is time to set up for companion passes later this year.

Right now I have a barclay arrival and to redeem travel points is very easy, I book travel then use my points for a credit towards next month's statement. I am looking into getting a Chase Ink business preferred for a company card. I am hesitant because from what I read, it doesn't seem as straightforward when you redeem points for travel. Is there a list of travel, hotels and flights,I can choose from (this would be a negative for me)? Or can I redeem for any sort of travel, such as disney hotels/ cruises, royal caribbean cruises, etc. Basically I don't want to be limited. Thank you!

It looks like I’ll be using Allegiant Air for our Christmas break trip. Are there any good deals to be had for booking Allegiant using credit cards? I’m coming up short. I’m guessing that biting the bullet (when the price for the flights is right) and using the $$$ towards a SUB is the best way to go.

If you just want to cash it out, then it doesn't need to be just travel. You can just cash out whatever you want. This makes it a better card than the travel eraser cards, in my opinion. However, you can use the travel portal and use less points to book it outright. For the CIP, if the cost is $1000 for a flight then you can book through the portal and only use 80,000 points. So you just need to find it on the Chase travel portal in order to book it with reduced points. However, Disney hotels are not on the portal at this time.
