I had to pay taxes and fees on my rental car in St. Louis this weekend, but I paid it when I booked through AA. It was only $23 though.
That's a good question on the situation where you don't pick up the car.
Was it a bundled booking? I’m going to look into it more today. I just discovered the charge last night.

We had something like this happen before when booking a flight and car bundle through Priceline. It was years ago and also Budget. I got no where after the fact fighting with budget so I disputed the charge with the cc but they ended up siding with budget and we had to pay. Was only $90’ish then but I was ticked as we had already paid taxes when booking with PL.

That seems like a lot for taxes and fees! Did he get a receipt? One time I was charged an additional fee when booking with UR. I never did understand why, but it was only like $12 so I didn’t say anything. I would be nervous about the no car pick up also. But usually you don’t get charged if you don’t pick up, so hopefully will be OK.
He did get a receipt. Just gobs of taxes and fees.
I thought about trying to cancel the cars for aug and while I know AA says cancellation will not result in refunded points, and I’m fine with that, I don’t want them to then charge me the higher amount for my wdw rooms.

So, y’all remember how I posted about using some of my AA miles and my $250 to get my dh to TX to help his parents. That was 16.3k AA miles + $287 ($250 travel credit). I thought that was a decent deal considering the flight was $187 cash price and the car would have been $275 cash price. Well, dh got home Sunday night and I realized he was charged an additional $198 from a Budget o_O Did some googling and turns out, when you use AA miles to rent a car, it doesn’t cover any of the taxes or fees! So that was a very bad redemption and I’d have been much better off just booking those separately and paying cash for the car:(

So now my mind is going to my hotel plus car booking for August. I have two cars booked that I don’t plan to pick up. Am I gonna get charged taxes and fees even if I dont pick up the car :scared:

Yikes. Thats a hefty fee! Glad you posted cause I planned to do this at some point.

No, I didn't even know that was an option until I had booked separately (it would have saved me a bunch of miles had I known).

No. The update includes a lot of new emojis!
Ah, the reply button quotes you automatically. That's cool... I struggled with the quote function before. Like it so far. Except I can't figure out how to tag people now.. they don't show up like they used to. Wondering if Haley is in Japan now and Palhockeymom? is having fun in Orlando.:)

Just type the @ symbol and start typing the username, find the person you want to tag and select.

Good memory! @Haley R was on her way to LAX this weekend, then on to Japan (and is probably there already). @palhockeymomof2 was also making her way down to Orlando.

@Haley R is in Japan now! She posted her IG on her trip report thread way down the boards in the Tokyo DL forum. I've been following along :) Latest pix from early this am were of the food from the ANA flight 🍽

@Calfan @calypso726 and/or anyone else who is better at the airline redemption thing than I am - is it possible for me to purchase seat assignments for my award flights? The flights I booked with United points are on Austrian, Lufthansa and TAP Portugal, so I wasn't able to choose seats. I'd be willing to pay to pick seats so that we can all sit together (or at least sit 2 and 2) on the long haul flights.

I couldn’t say for certain on those airlines but I would guess that you should be able. I know that award flights on BA offer seat assignment choices for a fee. I have paid for my mom’s seat assignments on award flights. You migh have to get the record locator for each of the partner airline tickets and log in each to choose and pay for seats. Call United and ask if they can give you the record locator from each airline for each segment if they are unable to provide seat assignments. Then, see if you can do it online by logging into each airline. Worst case, you have to call each airline with the record locator number.

I’m nowhere near those posters league, but booking with UR, I’ve always been able to put the confirmation number on the airlines website and purchase tickets directly through them. Have you tried finding your flights on the United website?

The airplane food looked amazing and made me hungry lol! That’s something I’ve never said before!

My dh had another interview this morning with the same company he was trying to get hired with a year ago. They asked him to present at their conference this past March and then they opened up a couple new positions and then things started falling into place and now I’m freaking out nervous 😬 I want change but I don’t want change, iykwim. Should know something by Friday.

Man, my Barclays AA Biz is still pending. I haven't called, but I haven't had any calls from an unknown number either. Last time my Arrival Plus app took almost the whole time, and I guess 10 business days is Thursday...

Now I just have to convince the husband that business cards are ok. My plan is to get him on the CIPpy cup this summer. We just had a long discussion about all the cards I've opened up this year ( a whopping 3-CSP, Amex Bonvoy Buisness, CIP) and how I'm going to ruin my credit score. :hyper2: And I won't be able to get a house loan if I wanted. Umm we just paid our house off last year and we have no desire to move so not sure what that is about. Probably just years of always being told your credit score dictates your next financial move. I reassured him that I am keeping a close eye on my score which only moves a few points here and there and I am following great sound advice from you all here. :goodvibes
It took an *11 months* for me to convince dh that business cards weren't of the devil :rotfl:He's gotten 2 personal cards in that period of time (CSP, WoH) so I'd probably classify him as a receptive P2 instead of a reluctant P2. Plus, he really wants to travel more now that our youngest is in college!

Curious about this as well---Air New Zealand shows up on some of the flight possibilities through UA for Australia.
My DH is the same way! I cannot for the life of me convince him that this game has a minimal effect on credit scores-mine is actually higher than his since he has a mortgage on the house he bought for his parents. I agree that the importance of your credit score has been emphasized so much that some people (cough, cough, DH) don't realize that a difference of 5 or 10 points when you're in the 800s is that significant. Some minds just can't be changed 🙁
Dh monitors his credit score every month bc of fraud issues a few years back. He's happy that his score has remained in the 820s, a bit below and a bit above, since opening his first "new" card last July (before that we had 2 cards from 1993 and 1995 lol)

Good to now. I'll need to investigate Air New Zealand's policies.

Honestly! I was reading over my first cup of coffee and was like gimme all the food :lmao:

I'm not even sure my DH knows that he has business cards... :rolleyes1
