I’m expecting chaos at DLR summer 2020. I never heard one person IRL mention Pandora yet FOP had huge waits at opening and a couple years later can still top 3 hours. Star Wars has a much bigger fan base. Even today is a busier day for SW attractions and it’s only May the 4th.

That's why. May the Fourth Be With You, as we Star Wars fans say!

Dh just messaged me saying our AF posted for our CIP. We were approved 5/15 last year so it seems a little early. I can’t decide if I want to close it and apply for a CIC or just PC it. We’re currently still working on our other CIP and with the trip and move coming I’m not sure I want to worry about another MSR. On the flip side, being on vacation should help meet the new MSR pretty easily. We have about $1,500 left on our current one.

What do you guys think?

Yeah I’m not sure where his mind’s at lol. I’m fairly positive I’ll convince him to have them move us. Just like he’ll probably convince me to drive it all in one day. If we take turns there’s no reason we couldn’t do it in one day. It would be nice not to have to stop at a hotel and just get to the house. It would give the cats a chance to settle in before the movers show up. That way they can get used to the house and have their scent on things.
Please be very careful if you do this. Moving is stressful and exhausting and two drivers trying to drive 20 hours in a day is really not ideal and may not be safe.

My ex and I moved a ton in our 20s. Chicago to northern Virginia, northern Virginia to Richmond, Richmond to Tampa, Tampa to Raleigh (then ended back in Richmond in our early 30s). All but the first two moves were with little ones. We had movers but always packed everything ourselves. And I don’t really remember either of us taking almost any time off to move. Certainly never a week. It seems crazy now but at the time I guess it worked.

Yeah same. We both worked our last days at our old jobs Thursday, drove ~15 hours Friday, spent the night, drove the last 4-5 hours Saturday, got the cats settled in the apartment with their stuff we had brought with us, and checked into a hotel. Went to work at our new jobs Monday. Unpacked and put everything away the same day the movers delivered later in the week. Quite the whirlwind!

DH and I moved into our house on a Saturday and hosted Thanksgiving for 14 people the next Thursday. DH was adamant that when we had our own house, I was no longer going to be forced to split holidays and drive all over kingdom come trying to see my parents (a sentiment I totally agreed with and appreciated lol). Nothing gets you motivated to unpack like knowing everyone is going to be there to see the new house in 5 days!

What if you were to app the CIC, then PC the CIP to a CIC (giving you two to get the bonus categories to max out).

Not in our experience. But my DD did not have any cards on her own, she was AU on 2 of ours when SW denied her (and she was interning for Google and making a good salary). Then she got out of college and was making a huge salary and Citi double cash denied her. She has a Capital One Quicksilver and the fee-free Savor for now. She does not have much credit history and her current private landlord does not report rent payments to credit bureaus.

My DD went for the CFU and got it. I think it's kind of their entry level card.

Honestly, and maybe I am biased b/c I don't care at all about SWGE, but I haven't heard anyone talk about or much less say they are going b/c it is opening. I mean, obviously on disboards, but not in real life. I am really wondering if it will be that busy, esp since it isn't opening all at once. Obviously I expect initial insanity, but I'm not sure it will be long-lived. I will probably be proven totally wrong, lol.

I'm not a huge fan, but I'm curious and think it could be cool. I do expect the crowds will be there for a long time, since the SW fan base is pretty huge and very dedicated. We were at WDW the weekend Pandora opened (just a coincidence) and the lines for FoP and even the river ride were crazy. I couldn't even get into the shop (well, I wasn't willing to wait in line). I don't think Avatar even has a real fan group, so sadly I think the word "insanity" used to describe SW areas will continue for at least a year if not more. I say sadly because I'd love to see it, but I'm no longer willing to go and deal with packed parks.

Unfortunately we don’t have a choice in the moving company. It’s either we use the one they offer or we move everything ourselves.
oooh, thats crazy. You have a cap but you have to use their company? Seems if you have a cap they'd just give you 'x' dollars and you can choose what you want. Thats been what we have done. Conversely, a lot of people I know have done corporate moves where they don't choose, but there also isn't a cap.
This makes no sense to me. Sorry you have to deal with that.

ETA: Well I guess you could still do the pod. Pay that out of pocket and have the rest of the money they give you to put towards your other stuff. Thats basically the same as moving yourselves like your DH suggested.

Many of the major life insurance issuers out there don't accept payment via card. I'm sure it's mostly to keep costs down and I'm cool with that as my primary concern when choosing life insurance is cost and how reputable the company is :)

I just double checked and my MetLife comes from checking actually, but DH's protective goes to CC.

I agree with this plus when you stretch it and drive when you are unsafe to drive, you put other innocent people at risk. Take a break after ten hours and spend the night getting enough rest to be a safe pair of drivers.

Knocking out my pile of papers and to-list today thats been piling up since I've been working preschool hours and Sundays. I feel like I chase my tail these days. I don't think I've mentioned it but I have another "business." Well real business, technically, I guess. I am a Shipt shopper. It is actually rather fun, decent money, and most importantly, flexible! I might go back into nursing PRN when school starts back, but I don't know. The flexibility with Shipt is so great, and I'm an independent contractor, thus my own boss...can't beat that either.

My Arrival+ came so got that activated and some bills shifted over to it. Upgraded my Disney Visa with that offer that came in the mail. Filed a bunch of stuff thats been needing to be filed. I paid some bills on plastiq via CIP since who knows how long it will last this time. Unfortunately the mortgage and preschool tuition were already paid for may, so boo for that.

Next on the list is embroidering the pile of clothes I have here for DD3's spring/summer wardrobe. I'm terrible about not getting to it and next thing I know the season is over and she never got to wear them.:rolleyes1

Yeah we have to use their moving company and the realtor that they choose (both buying and selling).

Any recommendations? lol if it’s a local company it’s ok if you don’t want to share but I’m looking into this.

So DH just told me where he wants to go on vacation in 2021... the Kentucky Derby! I’m thinking I’ll need some cash back type cards to cancel out the cost of those tickets lol.

Come join the world over 5/24! There are plenty of cashback cards.

I don’t think there are any other benefits. Plastiq has a 2.5% fee so you get to make an extra 0.5x UR back, then hopefully send your points to a CSR for the redemption bonus. It can be pretty lucrative if you can run some high spend through Plastiq & have a good plan for those points. I wish I could take advantage of it but this thread lets me vicariously.

You’ll be paying $375 each for those free night certificates, so hopefully, you can get good value out of them.

Is my math correct? I don't have to pay any fees on my next round of Plastiq. I already figured in my fees the first time and I have referral and customer service credits.

If I run $15,000 of the spend through on my CIP, I would net $600 in travel redemption, right? $15,000 x.03= $450 x 1.5 (CSR) = $675. That means if I choose to use my Amex HHonors instead, that "free night" certificate would have to be "worth" more than $675 (the amount I would have gotten in redemption on my CIP), right?

I applied for my CIP in late Feburary. The first charge was my annual fee on 3/1/19. Is it too early to apply for another one?

I've also been strongly considering the Southwest personal and business and earning a companion pass. Should I do that first?

Yes—I’m super cautious since the 19-year old daughter of one of the guys I dated for a few years post-divorce was killed by a driver who fell asleep:(

Are you a Costco member? If so, I did DH's thru them and it was super easy in comparison to mine that we did thru a friend who works for Edward Jones. Mine took forever, but I was trying to do him a favor. It is underwritten by MetLife. DH's is underwritten thru progressive. Both priced very well but we got them in our early/mid 30s and are both healthy.

I had no idea Costco did that. I don’t have a membership at the moment but I do love Costco lol
