We are back from NYC - I will try to do hotel reviews on the other thread when I have a minute. The short version is that The Lexington (Marriott Autograph Collection) is perfectly fine, and was reasonably priced. The Chatwal (Marriott Luxury Collection) is absolutely phenomenal, but pretty pricey. Worth the splurge this trip, but now I never want to stay anywhere else in NYC and it is hard to justify spending that many points (of any flavor) on a hotel room.

We were moderately spendy on the trip, but my dental work came in cheaper than expected, so I've still got some work to doon the MSR for my CIP. Have a plan to get there, though - spent yesterday evening at the emergency room with DH.

He's fine. He took a header on his bike yesterday afternoon (not moving fast, he was wearing a helmet). Banged up his face, shoulder and hand, and was feeling kinda dazed. All seemed ok, but a few hours later he had a kind of small seizure and passed out on the couch (scary - eyes rolled up, uncontrolled movements, not responsive for a couple of minutes). I had just called 911 when he came back to himself. I decided not have an ambulance come, but took him over to the emergency room right away. They checked him out - just a concussion, and he hasn't lost consciousness again. He's home today, pretty sore and his head hurts some, but he isn't nauseated anymore.

Also, my dental work was pretty painful, so they kept asking him if he needed anything for the pain, and he was saying "no, I'm fine" while I was sitting there going "noooooo, get some serious drugs and slip them to me!" We didn't get home until well after midnight, so I'm tired and my mouth still hurts like the dickens.

We have a high deductible insurance plan (with an HSA we can use to reimburse ourselves) so I'm figuring that last night was probably good for a good chunk of a MSR... always looking for the silver lining.
Hope you both heal quickly.

multiple anything is the rage now... cough cough AA cough cough...
And to think...people called AMEX once per lifetime the death of churning...people called Chase 5/24 the death of churning...people called whatever stupid rules BoA now has the death of churning...

And yet here we are in 2019 churning cards more than ever (or at least more than any other time in the past 4ish years)

This is just a dumb change. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but if you wanted to use "points advance" then the easy way around this would be:
1) book a placeholder reservation that uses up all of your points
2) book the reservation you want on points advance
3) cancel the placeholder reservation to get all of your points back

It's easy to say this won't matter, BUT it could affect somebody. If I had 75k points now and wanted book a night at a 50k property for December they'd take my 50k and I'd be left with 25k. Now let's say I knew I was going to earn another 10k in November for some reason BUT I also wanted to use 35k points for a night in July that comes up AFTER I'd booked the first room. I'd be out of luck, or I'd have to cancel the Dec room, book the July room, then re-book the Dec room (and hope it's available still for a points advance). Or I could book a 2nd room for December on points advance, then cancel the first, then book my July room. BUT if no more rooms were available on points for December I have no option...

If everything I just typed sounds ridiculous AND confusing that's because IT IS! This change makes 100% NO SENSE other than to needlessly inconvenience customers.
It is frustrating. I made one reservation that I'll want to use an award night for on my DH's account. Not sure how that will go.
I have other reservations I want to make, but I'm going to wait for my SPG nights (1 50k lux night, 1 35 K night biz) to post. Annual fees posted last month. Otherwise, they will just take the points and I'll have to undo it.

You could always work around it using the patented @SouthFayetteFan 3 Step Plan to Avoid Getting Bonvoyed (patent pending)...
1) book a placeholder reservation that uses up all of your points
2) book the reservation you want on points advance
3) cancel the placeholder reservation to get all of your points back

Are you confusing this with some other change...SW bonus waiting period has always been 24 months. Are you thinking about when CSR/CSP went to 48 months?

EDIT: OR are you thinking of the 1 SW personal rule?
Quoting myself:

So at times I enjoy being a bit of a "churning historian". I learned something new today though - I never realized that prior to mid-2014, Chase DID NOT have the 24 month language on their applications. Perhaps I knew this and forgot...but Chase did not specify anything at all as it relates to "churning" their bonuses, so churners were left to guess whether they were eligible for another bonus or not. There was speculation that it needed to be 2 years since you last applied and 1 year since you cancelled the card, and other things of that sort. It appears from some comments that people would get a Chase card a 2nd time and be denied the bonus!

An interesting note in the "churning wars" was that AMEX added once per lifetime to their personal cards in March 2014. Chase then clarifies their 24 mo. policy just a few months later by adding it to the application. So it seems that Chase potentially responded to AMEX once per lifetime by saying "We WILL let you get the card again...just gotta wait 24 months". AMEX of course later put the once per lifetime rule on biz cards in early 2016 and Chase fought back against churners with 5/24 in 2015 and the expansion of 5/24 to many co-brand cards in 2016 (famously put in place on or around 5/24/16 just to troll us further!) and then further expansion to all cards in 2018.

For those interested in a few "blogs down memory lane..."
EDIT: and now all the newer people here are salivating at the thought of a churning game WITHOUT 5/24 or WITHOUT Amex once per lifetime...

My husband has the CIP. I want him to send me a referral so I can get the card as well. I went onto his account online and cannot find where to send an email for a referral. Does anyone know where it is?

https://www.chase.com/referafriend/catch-all OR use the Chase app

Also, DON'T do the email, that takes forever. Just copy and paste the link.

FYI: Chase support links have posted for the week it appears. Tuesday late afternoon/early evening holds true again! If others notice this in other weeks, it's nice to share that here for people wondering if their's have posted. I happened to notice today because I was expecting 1.

@wendow sorry to hear about DD. She has Lymes right? Hope she’s feeling better. Like your plan for August with the dining plan. Sit down credits aren’t classified kid vs adults?
Thank you. Yep, she has Lyme but it all began with Epstein-Barr and that turned chronic and that’s what’s going on right now. It’s like part mono but then a bunch of other symptoms that baffle the docs!

I’m excited for the August plan too! I guess on the deluxe dining, there is no distinction between TS or QS and adult or child. Kind of a loophole it seems.

Thanks for sharing, since I only found you guys last May it’s interesting reading

I was a little late noticing this DP:

Sometime between 3/18 and 4/16, Google Domains no longer coding 3x on CIP

 Someone needs to create a business card for web developers that gives us bonus on categories we spend on- hosting, domains, software & services.

Has anyone seen @SBWB48 around? It’s been like forever since she’s posted here.

By clicking on the link for her name you can see that she was on the boards late yesterday evening. You could pm her and ask how she is doing. That said, @SBWB48 - we are now thinking about you! Hopefully all is well and you are just busy! Come on by and say hello.

The problem with pvd is I’m never there long enough to enjoy a lounge. It’s so small and easy to navigate we get there an hour before and when we land we just want to go home.
Yeah. I hear you. I guess we're in the same boat. It's just nice to get treated like a real airport lol.

Ugh. All of this sounds way too familiar. DW won't even go to the doctor when her symptoms flare up most of the time because they don't know what to do to help her. Luckily she is on a good streak right now (even in spite of the crappy weather pattern around here). Hoping your daughter is on the upswing soon!

Yup, this is my exact issue. Need to book a 10 day stay for 100k points for October. But what if I need some points before then for another horse show? It’s stupid.

Wow, Chase is intent on making the CIP completely useless except for its SUB. A year ago, the CIP was my favorite card, got almost all of my spend, and no way would I ever think about closing it. Today, I was just musing about closing one and PCing another. One of these days, I'll have to make a list of all the nice things that used to earn 3x on the CIP but don't anymore.

I dub thee the CIP historian. We will add it to our churning history archives!

Thank you! We looked at houses for one day and knew which one we wanted
That is soooo lucky. We looked at houses for 3 months, bid on 2, lost both. Ended up settling for a place we don’t love and closed 6 weeks after the house we sold, so ended up living in my sister’s basement for 6 weeks. :scared1:

So happy for you that you guys found something you love!
