This is my first ever trip report. It's a combination trip/race report of my first ever race!!!
Here's a simple cast of characters:
I'm on the left and my friend Lynne is on the right. That's it! I left the hubby and kids at home.
Pre-trip info:I was browsing the DIS boards to plan a trip for my family. I stumbled upon the WISH forum, knowing that my fat butt should be visiting it more often. I was probably eating Ho-Ho's at the time.
I started reading threads and found some info on the Princess Half Marathon. I had never heard about it before. And why should I pay it any attention? I was a 6 time couch-to-5K dropout. Let's be honest; I never even made it past week 1 of the darn program.
But I kept reading, and I thought it sounded like so much fun. Plus, who wouldn't want a trip to Disney World? But I knew I couldn't afford it. Then someone mentioned Team in Training. Yet another thing that I had never heard about. I kept thinking about the race, and the program, and how I always wanted to be a runner. So I took the plunge...I signed up with Team in Training. I unfortunately wouldn't be able to make any of their group runs, but I'd have the opportunity to fundraise the money to go to Disney World! So I started training.
As usual, I was gung-ho at the beginning. And then I fell into my old ways. I started skipping runs. I had excuse after excuse. I was tired, it was cold, I had things to do, the holidays came, etc. Then it came time for recommitment with TNT. For those that don't know, that's the time that I decide to sign paperwork that says that if I don't fundraise the minimum amount, I'll pay the difference. I almost didn't sign. The race was coming up quickly. I had barely raised any money, and I had skipped the majority of my training. But then I realized that if I ever wanted to be a runner, I had to actually stick to something. So I signed the form. Over the next few weeks, I really stuck to my training. I joined a gym for the days that were too cold. I started really going crazy with the fundraising. The time came when my credit card would be charged...and I had met my goal!!! Truth be told, I had actually raised more than the minimum. So the days were counting down till my trip. MIL and her dh were so proud of me for doing this, that they bought my discounted park hopper. I love them so much.
So here we go to the actual trip report...
