I know Veteran's Day is crowded, how about the days before or after?

Another possibility of dates for us is over Veteran's Day. Since my kids have the Friday before off it gives us one more day w/o taking more time off school. I didn't consider this at first b/c of crowds but what if we did DL/DCA either the Wed, Thurs, Fri before (it's on Saturday) or the Sun, Mon, Tues after. Do you think these days will be really crowded also? Which block of days do you think crowds will be less? And we also really want to see the holiday decorations...do you think they will be up before Veteran's Day?

Also, what's the weather like in November? Can you swim and does anyone know if the waterslide will be open at Paradise Pier? I think I read somewhere that it was not operating in December. Thanks for putting up with all of my questions! :teeth:

You'll want to avoid whichever day is the day off school/banks closed, etc... for the holiday. That day was insanely crowded last year. The whole weekend was pretty busy.

DD and I went this year. Thursday through Sunday and the crowds were CRAZY. It reminded me of a Christmas trip we took one year. We spent afternoons in the pool and shopping. This year it was the beginning of the Christmas decorations and IASW opened on Friday. CRAZY! Good luck!

I get that Friday off any holiday weekend is going to be crowded. I would avoid Friday-Sunday last year it was insanely crowded and on friday DL reached capacity. Nov. 11th is the official start of the holiday season so if you want to ride SW holiday and see the holiday events I would go the week after the holiday but go on Sunday so you can see the fireworks even though it will probably be crowded. If you don't care about that I would go the week before some of the decorations are up but usually the tree goes up on the 11th.

If you go here http://www.wunderground.com/tripplanner/index.asp you can plug in the dates you are going and it will give you what the weather was like on those exact dates for the past 30 years.

We went Wednesday through Sunday last year and it was crowded every day! The crowds were bigger than some summer visits we have made. We were thinking the crazy crowds might have been because of the 50th. Veteran's Day (Rembrance Day here in Canada) is usually when we try and visit because it is usually not too crowded and we all have a few extra days off. Perhaps this year will be better???

The holiday decorations were all up and IASM Holiday opened while we were there too. We pretty much avoided the parks in the middle of the day and still had a great time.
