I am having Thanksgiving for the family at my house this year and was looking for ideas for appetizers. We will have the standard Turkey and all the trimmings for the actual dinner, but I want to get some ideas for apps and dessert.

So, could you please post your entire dinner menu for me to look at? I love seeing different Thanksgiving menus and they help a lot! :)

Thanks so much!

Deviled eggs
Sweet Potato Casserole with nut topping
Cranberry Salad-my fave
Earthquake Cake-german choc with coconut icing, cream cheese, & nuts
Pie (this is what I make-Peanut Butter, Butterfinger, & Chocolate Pudding have been the last 3 years that my picky kids like)

Turkey
mashed potatoes/gravy
stuffing
sweet potatoes for me and DD-23
salad
yeast rolls

Probably pumpkin pie and apple pie

It's a mystery to me -- we're having Thanksgiving lunch at 50's Primetime, but they haven't released the Thanksgiving menu yet :rotfl:

Holidays with DD, DSIL, DGD (11) and DGD(9)

We decided two years ago to only fix things that most of us liked. So, no stuffing, sweet potatoe casserole or pumpkin pie.

Turkey with fresh sage (tghird year for this recipe---it is so moist)
mashed potatoes
turkey gravy for me and DSIL
those packaged rolls that grocery stores sell at the holidays
vegetable (last year was aspargus)
pumpkin cake roll (family favorite :goodvibes)
pecan pie for DSIL

It so much more relaxing this way. ;)

Whatever we can get at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen. :)

Turkey
Stuffing
Mashed Potatos
Corn
Rolls
Pumpkin Pie
Pecan Pie

same as every year..

Turkey with homemade cranberry sauce
stuffing
pumpkin casserole
salad
homemade bread - basically cranberry and pumpkin
strawberry banana jello mold ( my Mom's award winning recipe)
double baked white potatoes
pumpkin pie and one other

depending on how many people we have (we have invited DH's aunts)

Fried Turkey (we have a trueky fryer)
Baked Turkey
mashed taters
eggplant-corn casserole
stuffing
corn
carrots

I have several dips to make including a ruben dip, spinach and artichoke, beer bread

For dessert....apple pie, key lime pie, TS apple crisp cream cheese ball, maybe some cookies

Usually we host T-giving and have everyone bring 1 dish this way I'm not having to cook for days before (as I work and can't get off) and the 2 families (his and mine) get to try new things!

I sent out an email last week to the aunts and NADA yet....then again they are bad at communication!

My fiance & I are going to Mississippi this year to have Thanksgiving with his family at his grandparents' house.. which means tons of good food all week long. :woohoo:

Last time we were there, the menu was:

Turkey
Sweet potatoes
Spicy collard greens
Green beans
Corn casserole
Fruit salad
Cranberry sauce
Rolls
and.. sweet potato pie!! :lovestruc

I'm not sure what they menu will be. We have reservations for dinner at Portobello at DTD. We ate there last Thanksgiving and it was wonderful. They had a special Thanksgiving menu. We are looking forward to it!

Have no idea yet. I am dreading it after last year's fiasco, but MIL informed DH that she was coming this year so I have no choice. Keep the good ideas coming.

Fried Turkey
Cheesy-bacon mashed potatoes
English Peas
Stuffing
Dumplings (don't know why, but we end up with them every year)
Yeast rolls
Fruit Salad
Chocolate Pie (lots of this one)

The only thing I know for sure is turkey. Actually 2 turkeys. One brine and roasted the other deep fried. The only reason I know this is I am the one making them. Yep I have to schlep them up to my MIL's and fix them there. I'm actually going to ask what else I can make while I"m there. I'm a better cook than her. ;)

If I was cooking - which I'm not - it would be:

Turkey
Stuffing
Gravy
Mashed potatoes
Cranberry Sauce
Broccoli with cheese sauce
Cauliflower with cheese sauce
Peas
Cottage cheese
Celery stuffed with peanut butter and/or cream cheese
Deviled eggs
Rolls
Pumpkin pie
Dutch Apple pie

I have no idea- we don't know where we will be yet. If we stay home, it will be just DH, DD, and me- DD won't eat turkey for moral reasons (don't ask...), so we have had ham for the last 4 years. We might do a baked chicken this year, though. We always do stuffing, mashed potatoes, ambrosia fruit salad, broccoli, and rolls. Don't know what I'll do for dessert- I usually try something new each year. Maybe an apple/cranberry tart.

If we go to my parents' house, we will do the traditional turkey, stuffing, rice, mashed poptatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, pumpkin pie, and chocolate pie.

appetizer -- I actually made this a couple years ago, and might repeat it: a cornucopia out of canned breadsticks!! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Cornucopia/Detail.aspx
Read the reviews for other ideas... but I had strips of red, yellow and green bell peppers, celery, and carrots in the cornucopia, with a couple of veggie dips on the side. It was a lot of fun for DH & I to make, and a big hit with the family!

I also plan to have a hot cranberry punch for everyone to enjoy until turkey time.

Main menu:
-Turkey (mix rosemary, sage, and thyme in softened butter, and rub under the skin, stuff it with cut up onion, celery, apple... just for the flavor, not stuffing to eat. Perfect every time!)
-squash dressing
-gravy
-roasted sweet potatoes with onion
-shredded brussels sprouts (check out allrecipes.com for the recipe, bacon and garlic makes everything better!!)
-garlic cheese mashed potatoes
-whole-berry cranberry orange sauce
-dinner rolls from Costco (the BEST pre-made rolls)

dessert -- probably apple dumplings (chopped apples w/ cinnamon wrapped in little pie crusts, topped with a boiled cinnamon/butter/sugar syrup then baked) and maybe pumpkin pie also

THAT sounds like fun!!! :)
